My wife is a great quilter and a wonderful wife/friend/confidant/support system all rolled into one pretty package.

She's made Christmas quilts, purses, table runners and things I can't even identify.

I need help in chosing a great gift for my favorite quilter. In these troubled times, money is a little tight but I am sure there is enough for something nice. Maybe not a new quilting machine but she already has a big monster that must be 10' long and a Genomie sewing machine to boot. She has enough fabric to quilt Rhode Island and maybe Vermont to boot. So, what is a DH to do?

Is there anything that comes close to being a romantic quilting gift? I want this to be a special Christmas for her. I don't want to buy another set of spark plugs and wrench so she can change them herself again. Hey, a couple of years ago the plugs made her car run better but it hurt when she hit me with the wrench. Oil for her car is out too.

Suggestions please.

Besides sewing I love to listen to music while I am doing it...maybe a nice stereo

I say you can't go wrong with a Gift Card so that she can purchase more fabric from her favorite quilt shop.

How about a gift card in a box with a couple of scented candles, nice bath salts, and a box of her favorite chocolates... :D:D:D

as a Quilting Guy I Second Craftybear's Idea. Is there anything she might be missing to make her quilting easier?? are her sissors worn out?? does she have all the rulers she might need?

I am not the greatest gift getter for my DW. I ask her to make a list of possible things she wants. Then pick and choose what I get her. I suggest you have her set up the list in the order of what she wants the most to the least.

My DH did this for me one year and I was surprised and so happy and the gift lasted a long time. Here's what he did:

He went to a local quilt shop (LQS) and one of the ladies helped him pick out 200.00 worth of supplies, tools, gadgets, scissors ( no rotary cutters back then)5 different solid colors fabrics (3 yard each)and a bunch of different colored threads. He even threw in a couple of quilt books, which I still have today. It was the best present he ever got for me and it reminded me of his love and thoughtfulness every time I used something from that big box. He passed away 17 years ago and that gift is one I will always remember. My kids remember it too because it made me cry!

I'm no help. Gift certificates. I'm old and have most everything I need. Rather than a bunch of stuff I really don't need or want. I like money or money cards. It is always the right size and right color. However, many women Want a gift. Sooooo, like I said I'm no help. :0

You know, my husband has the same problem. I've been quilting for 10 years. Anything I might need, I have. I gave my husband this option. I told him that I adore Jinny Beyer and that if he went to her site and picked out a quilt kit HE liked, I'd love to make it. I figure I couldn't lose with a gift like that. I'd get to quilt one of her lovely designs , it would have an element of surprise, AND I get to make something that I know he liked enough to choose. Perhaps that might work for you?

Now I fully expect that I'll get slippers !! ( just kidding!)

I too have all the quilting stuff i can ever use, but you know, we always want a little more, What i would love for dh to get me for Christmas is a day trip to a quilt store a few hours away,(Mercer or Portersville,if he is listening) a modest gift certificate to the store and the promise of lunch out at a nice restaurant nearby with him.

How about a quilting retreat gift certificate? Maybe search the Internet or ask some the local quilt shops about a weekend retreat for 2011 that is nearby.

I think whatever you get her, she'll know it came with love and care and she'll appreciate it.

The best gift my husband ever got me had nothing to do with quilting. He ordered a special toilet seat from Japan from a company called Toto, and installed it himself. It is the coolest thing, and is completely hands-free. It will squirt you with water (you choose the location, front or back). You can adjust the water's temperature, how hard it squirts, and whether it oscillates. Then it will dry you with hot air. The fancy one even senses when you have left and puts down the toilet seat for you. It was the most thoughtful gift I ever got, bar none. And it's a toilet seat, go figure.

since it sounds like she is well stocked with quilting supplies, how about something to soothe her tired body after a hard day at the machine?
Certificate for one or [b]all[b/] of the following each month:
massage
pedicure/manicure
dinner at favorite restaurant
'date night' with you (of course)
bubble bath/loofa sponge/tub candles
book, wine, chocolate

check with the local quilt shop or quilt guild (the shop will know how to contact them) and give her a promissory note to cover the cost of a guest speaker scheduled to come to your area, or to cover the cost of a quilt retreat (guilds usually have at least one retreat a year). The cost for a retreat in my area is about $120 to $150, and classes by a guest speaker run between 50 and 75$ each class.

If she has an ipod, maybe a nice Bose ipod dock. I love mine, it has a rechargeable battery and a remote so I don't have to get up to change music or volume and I can drag it all over the house without having to find a plug.

A gift certificate for a massage. I have a friend who is a wonderful massage therapist. In fact I just got home a few minutes ago from my massage.

Another thought.... Maybe a gift of a housekeeper to come in once a month or so.

How about a Singer 221 featherweight sewing machine? Most of us quilters love them.

Does she have a nice cutting area ? Joann's has some nice cutting tables ,some even have storage under neath .Really like quilt retreat of her choice idea I know I'd love it if my hubby did that for me .Your wife will love what ever you do for her Merry Christmas!

My dh made me a big board ironing board!!! I think it around $30. I love it !!! I love it but I love him even more for taking the time and love to make it for me!!! Romantic in my eyes everytime I use it or walk into the room or even think about it! I think of him building it & making it for me, so sweet. Yep, about as special as you can get in my eyes. I am not sure if she has everything she needs for quilting or not but... How about a loves embrace necklace or earrings from Kays.. My DH got me one and I just love it!!!

I know I would love a week or two off of kitchen and house-keeping duties and just have uninterrupted quilting time. That would be greatly appreciated here at least!!

Something I haven't seen: How about a quilt retreat that may be in your area-even if it happens to be in the spring, summer.

Or how about a gift card to acquire thread for her quilting machine you can get a sampler set that have many colors, and thread choices (hopefully my DH is looking over my shoulder)

I'm a fan of gift certificates. I have repeatedly told DH if he ever thinks to go into a shop and buy me fabric without me being there that he needs to turn around and walk out. I am soooooo picky. I like the thought of a gift card - "I know you like this store and you pick out what you like" - w/o getting stuck with stuff I don't want.

If you can find a massage school, they charge less for massages. We have one right around the corner and it's $30 for an hour massage, since they're students who need hours to get their license. So that's a cheaper way to get a decent (better than the $50-60 ones I've had) massage cheaper.

If a quilt retreat is out of the pic due to budget, find out if there is a quilt show in your area and treat her with a workshop at the show. In my area there are several 1 day classes and one 2 day class- always by a renoun quilter and new techniques.

My favorite thing that my husband gets me is time to quilt. When he can, he does all the household chores, takes care of food and shopping, and makes sure that I have time for a quilt "retreat" right at home. It's time for me to sew without worrying about getting stuff done - because he already got it all done! Oh, and it's free!

Hmmmmm! Three pages of suggestions and my wife hasn't chimed in. I guess she doesn't look at this part of the forum. She has to show me quilt photos every day and point out the new jokes.

She has been a member here a long time and I know she spends time on the site every day even when she is up to her ears in quilts.

I was really hoping she would give me a suggestion. As you can see from my forum name (qltrzdh) I am a quilters husband. Some days I am not a "DH" though.

Oh well, maybe I will do it right this year and change her spark plugs and oil myself. It is too cold to wash her car. Maybe she would like to go hunting. Sarah P. does.

With the "Elf on the shelf" sneaking around here, I gotta be real careful.

A medium sized box with a few notions and a couple of yards of pretty fabric (or a couple of charm packs) and a beautiful mushy card holding a gift certificate to her favorite quilting store (whether it be local or on-line) and (if she would like you along) a promise that you will take her to the quilt store and patiently wait while she goes through the entire contents selecting what she might want. That gives her something to open on Christmas morning and something to REALLY look forward to. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!

Just make my DH read this and his only comment was We don't need sparkplugs. After 50 years I can't get rid of him.

Funny! You just got to love them!

One year my husband purchased a massage, 1 hr. It took me 2 years to use it, but now I would run to get one. Quilters have shoulder, neck and back pain. A 1 hour massage. Not only was it wonderful and relaxing, but I still remember how relaxed I felt when I came home. That was 3 years ago.
