Quilting for Christmas. Anyone else?

Currently I'm on a mission to complete four quilts that will be Christmas gifts for my sister and three children. Sisters is waiting on binding, son's top is done and will be quilted as soon as I go get some batting for it, and daughters tops are in progress. Just curious, who else is working on Christmas quilts now?

Annaquilts 08-09-2013 06:36 AM

My mind is turning that way. I have several projects in progress that I plan to finish. It goes fast now.

I have one pair of GI Joe pjs finished for grandson and a pair of pj pants for my daughter, his mother. I have a quilt top finished but I'm not sure if I'm going to give it to that person or not. Aaannd a lot of ideas floating around, if I ever get to them in time.

Yikes - I have plans but time is moving way too quickly!! I'm trying to finish up my son's quilt for his birthday - which is the end of September so I can concentrate on Christmas gifts.

bjgallent 08-09-2013 07:19 AM

I have 4 midi bags made with matching little flat bags out of same fabric and a small shoulder bag made out of recycled jeans.

Just finishing up a log cabin for our bed. Next I'm starting on a nativity scene wall hanging for Christmas. Have cut out several double handed pot holders for gifts. :o

I was just studying a pattern for fabric I just bought for my DD one for Christmas. I hope to get started soon.

This afternoon I start on 8 quilted placemats for my sister. That will be a nice change from doing big quilts.

Juliebelle 08-09-2013 11:32 AM

I am working a couple of table runners and have a large lap size ready to be quilted.

nvb50 08-09-2013 12:14 PM

I have done 6 twin size quilts and 2 baby quilts. I have to queen size to do before Christmas.

wildwoodflower12390 08-09-2013 01:05 PM

I have been listening to Christmas music, does that count?

Stitch124 08-09-2013 01:13 PM

I've finished three Advent calendars for my daughters. Ordered Jake and the Neverland Pirates fabric for my grandson's cape/blanket....still thinking about quick gifts for others.

Sheilz 08-09-2013 02:46 PM

Four of my quilts have been done as Christmas pressies for my grown up children. My youngest was just given her one when I finished it though she hasn't seen it in the flesh yet as she's been in Australia for the past five weeks visiting her older sister. I got some lovely fabrics for trying my hand at table linen for other gifts. Not sure though how I will get on with these.

I have decided on the pattern for a lap quilt for my DDIL and will shop soon for the fabric. It's pretty straight forward and shouldn't take too long. I also want to make my daughter a table runner and place mats, but I haven't decided on the pattern yet. I'd love to make my granddaughters something like pjs, but I'm not sure they would be appreciated. Will continue to think and plan.

Lap quilt for my mom, placemats for my aunt and two flannel blankets for my grandkids. I'm new at this so we'll see how much I can get done by THIS Christmas! LOL

So far this year ( for christmas ) I have made both of my daughters each a queen size quilt for their beds. My son in law a full size quilt, my youngest granddaughter a queen size quilt, and my soon to be married granddaughter a queen size wedding quilt. Wedding is in Nov. I am working on an appliqued Christmas Tree Quilt now, for myself!!

LTeachergeorge 08-09-2013 05:05 PM

I feel like a real slacker!!! I'm hoping to make minkee-backed quilts for 3 of my grandchildren. Eight-yr-old granddaughter has been spending some time with me this week and next and I let her sew some seams. I think she's hooked!!. She wanted to see my fabric so I showed it to her. She immediately spotted her quilt (even though it was inside out) and asked if it was for her, because of the hot pink binding. I told her I was sorry, but it was a donation quilt. Younger brother gets an Ï Spy"; and haven't quite decided on older sister's. I'd best get busy!!

Yikes....137 days until Christmas!

gramajo 08-09-2013 05:29 PM

I had big plans at the begininning of the year. There were 4 large lap quilts I wanted to make and thought I'd have time to get them done. BUT I have to downsize and have been trying to get rid of 20+ years of stuff. I haven't sewn in 2 months. I'm moving in Sept. and hope to be organized enough to start sewing again by Oct. If I really push it, I may get 2 done for Christmas. I'm proud of myself, though, because I've already bought 3 gifts. They were just perfect for the recipient, so I had to get them.

franc36 08-09-2013 05:43 PM

I have finished 2 quilts for Christmas gifts and have 4 quilts at the LAQ. Tonight, I am sewing the binding on a quilt for Christmas. I have 2 tops here that I need to quilt myself. I have plans to make several other quilts as Christmas gifts. Last year, I didn't get my quilts finished in time so this year, I started early.

Pat625 08-09-2013 06:11 PM

I made 8 muslin bunnies for my 8 granddaughters. I want to make table runners for each family, and a queen quilt for one of my children. I may make some bow tucks bags too if I get time to do it.

amelia0607 08-09-2013 06:40 PM

I haven't started on anything yet. I mentioned making new stockings for all of us as our family has grown. The daughter I mentioned it to was adamant - no new stockings!! I suggested that each of my daughter's could take their stockings home to their houses but she said no, they must all stay together. What to do with a sentimental 30 y/o?

christyld60 08-09-2013 07:23 PM

I'm just beginning to get thoughts/ideas and fabrics ready. I probably won't get everything done for this Christmas...so then I'll be that much further ahead for the next one ! :)

Akweiland 08-09-2013 07:46 PM

I am! I have four table runners pieced, one more laid out to sew and a few more patterns picked.

janedee 08-09-2013 07:54 PM

I had two quilts done. now I gifted one to my daughter for her birthday and the other will go to my son next month for his. argh! so I am making table runners and gifting a basket of jams/syrups and pancake mix to them all. Yup got the jam and syrup done phew so to make a pretty set of napkins and maybe placemats.. see how time goes. No time like the present to think of presents lol. I do not like to be caught with my pants down for sure. I am on SSI so that means there is not a lot of play money at all come Dec. its nice to start early. Next year I will make a set of four wall hangings for each of the kids. ok maybe aprons the girls love aprons all cutesied out.. fifities style for one. My sis wants a LONG apron with a monster pocket. She is very short. Hope she doesnt trip on it! I am thinking of making this pattern for it:

Oh so glad I don't do Christmas gifting. At present heat wave in UK so I am making tops only. These will be sandwiched and quilted in the winter when cooler weather means I can snuggle under the thicker quilt.

twinkie 08-10-2013 02:41 AM

Christmas will be here before you know it.

nlong49 08-10-2013 03:13 AM

I am a quilting newbie and new to this board. I am working on a smaller version of turning 20 in christmas fabrics.

I am in the process of making 4 bed runners for friends and one for me. Started out as 1 big quilt and when I looked at it I decided, hey! These would be great bed runners for friends. They are not Christmas in design but we are all bit Ohio State University fans and this is the newest fabric so I ordered it and went to work with my own design. They all will have different borders in either red or grey or white from my stash. My only purchase was the centers of each "O" and that was only 2 yards of each design. Everything else including batting and backings will come from the stash.

Actually, I just thought about Christmas yesterday. I have 3 grown married sons that live all over the country and never know what to get them, they all have houses, etc. I gave the oldest a quilt last Christmas and he loved it, I should make the middle on a quilt this Christmas, the one in California - I'm not sure he and his wife would like a quilt. I was thinking maybe nice Christmas tree skirts to go with some other small items. Still thinking!

I have over 100 pot holder/ hot pads to make for the shop. I am so pleased with the design that I am having a friend write it up and submit to a magazine. Then come the Christmas mug rugs. They are taking up a lot of time with the hand stitching and addition of buttons etc. Off to work.

Should have read through the threads first....amelia0607 thanks for the stocking idea and Brat, love the idea of table runners and pancake fixins! I can make everyone stockings stuffed with pancake fixins!! I have a wonderful friend who bottles home-made maple syrup and I can make some blueberry syrup because blues are in now!! Thank you for Christmas ideas!

#1piecemaker 08-10-2013 03:55 AM

Yikes!!! I am one of those last minute shoppers. I still haven't got my things ready for the fair yet!!

Teacup 08-10-2013 04:26 AM

I have to make a new tree skirt...for us! Old one was made in China, felt that I couldn't wash, and too many years of cats laying on it and pulling off Santa's button eyes and untying ribbons on packages. It was a mess and went in the garbage last January...thought it would force me to make one. I'd better get started!

CoventryUK 08-10-2013 04:29 AM

I'm still recovering from LAST Christmas!!! Does it come round every 6 months now???? Seems like it!! Lol!!

davis2se 08-10-2013 05:16 AM

I've made two table runners with the 10" half hexi ruler from MQSC, and I love them. One runner is going to my husband's family reunion blind auction today, and the other will go to one of my siblings as a Christmas present. I'm trying to force myself to do something different now - those half hexi runners are so nice, and so, so quick I can see myself having about 20 of them by Christmas.

msmariab5 08-10-2013 05:26 AM

I am, I have already made two twister Rudy Raindeer wall hangings, a Christmas tree wall hanging and soon will start on some hot pads. Sorry, but haven't learn how to post pictures.

nonda 08-10-2013 05:31 AM

One quilt complete, one quilt will be finished this weekend, and have the fabric for the third quilt ~ all for sisters for Christmas. Hoping to also get two lap quilts finished ~ time will tell!
