You have completed a lot more quilts in a short time than I have done in a couple of years. But like you I am a fabricoholic and my stash is huge, tho not huge compared to others I'm sure.
Great job on all the time you spend creating and finishing your quilts. warm quilt hugs, sue in CA |
Good for you! I started quilting about 20 months ago, and I've finished 18 quilts; only 3 were baby quilts. The rest were all queen, king and 1 twin.
I'm in Kentucky too; Owensboro, KY, western KY on the Ohio River Border. |
It is often said that quilting is supposed to be fun, not add more stress to your life. Perhaps finishing off the tops and seeing the finished products would bring some calm from your new found hobby. It would bother me not to have them completely done. I try to finish them off or almost anyway, b/4 starting another. Good Luck on sorting this all out. Enjoy those kids as they are grown and gone, way too soon.

We must be of the same mold. I do exactly the things you do. I have only been quilting since the end of May and have made 11 quilts, 4 of them are queen or bigger. 6 wall hangings and I am now finishing up the 8th table runner for Christmas gifts. I am addicted to fabric have many quilts cut and ready to start. Does all this sound familiar, only difference is I work 3 jobs about 60 hours a week average outside the home. I take care of mentally challenged children, whom are all getting quilts and pillow cases for Christmas. My own children are grown and have families of their own. I also made all 11 grandchildren 2 pair of pjs and pillowcases to match. My friends all think I never sleep, but I do. I also love this site and come here everyday to browse. Thank you all for many wonderful stories, patterns, ideas, and words of encouragement

I love sewing.... I think I have already became obsessed with it. If I'm not cooking, cleaning, tending to the kids, or the husband... I'm sewing... If I'm letting my sewing machine take a break and cool down I'm reading a book or cutting more fabric to sew. I am always doing something I can't stand to not be into something.... Sounds like another confession! |

Holy Cow! You've made 15 tops in a year? You must not have a job outside the home. Or they are crib size or smaller. Just wait, your fabric buying seems to get worse the longer you have this hobby (love/obsession). I've been quilting for 10 yrs. and about once a year I redo the boxes my stash is in and move them to larger boxes. The one kind of fabric I have the most of is for OBW's. I've at least 12 hunks for just those. Good Luck! ************ Is the OBW the same as the quilt in your avatar? |
what does your tennessee scraps look like i'm from tenn thanks dorothy

Sounds like another confession! Around 3pm the sewing machine gets shutdown for their arrival from school..... I guess thats why I didn't take up quilting or any other hobby until they were in school. LOL I have 3 (all boys) ages 12, 8 & 8. The 8's are twins! I really appreciate that you said that, it is a good balance. Mommy's have to have some kind of escape/ treat for themselves. I could get my nails done or go to the spa, but the truth is simply........ I'd rather be quilting!!! I'm so glad I found this board. Fellow quilters are so easy to relate to. |
If you love what you're doing and nothing important is suffering because of it, you're in good shape. Sounds like you have a great balance going for you.
I think I'm up to about a dozen planned and seven to finish (which I'm faithfully trying to do before I start another), with enough fabric for about forty more. I also knit ambitious things. And I have the rest of my life. |

And I have the rest of my life. Thats true! There is no need to get in a hurry as long as your enjoying doing it.... I need to learn to control myself and finish the projects I've started before starting new ones. LOL I just cannot stand for my stash to build :? I see pics on here of other's sewing rooms and I want to have a fabric stash like I see in the pics, but I can't stand letting the fabric just lay. It has to be cut and ready to work on......... HELP! I'm a mad woman!!! |
I am amazed that you have completed 15 tops in less than a year. Congratulations. This year maybe you can dedicate to finishing UFO's. I will be brave and list my UFO's so you aren't the only one.
1. Second Floral Quilt (It will be very much like the one I gave to my mother) 2. Blue baby quilt (sandwiched - ready to quilt) 3. Bargello (partly pieced) pic here http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-64579-1.htm 4. Star Struck (currently quilting by hand - probably measures queen size) 5. log cabin (sandwiched - trying to work out a design for quilting) pic here http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-12172-1.htm 6. 4th of July (top - just waiting in line) 7. Butterfly quilt (binding only left to finish) 8. left over butterfly blocks to put into another baby quilt 9. OBW (sandwhiched - will be next one quilted) 10. 2nd OBW (piecing project) 11. Pin Wheel (have to cut the HST's and make into blocks) 12. Warm Wishes (yet another piecing project) 13. fall blocks (from swap - still haven't decided what to do with them) I dedicated most of 2010 to getting tops done. I finished 5 and will have one more done by the end of the year. I plan on 2011 getting some tops done to have ready to quilt 2012 to join the UFO challenge again on yahoo groups. Kyia |
What is the UFO Challenge? (Sorry I'm still new to the QB)
|
wow 15 quilts in a year that is great !!! send pictures
|
Fayza, I am a member of the yahoo group stashbusters. The goal is to use up your stash.
Within the group there are different challenges. One of the is the UFO Challenge. A UFO is an Un Finished Object (those tops that aren't done.) To join the challenge you email the coordinator and submit two FQ's to the kitty. Every quarter a winner is drawn. Every finish you have your name gets entered into the bag that gets drawn every quarter. New quarter new bag. There is a queens list. When you finish a quilt, you email the coordinator and post a picture and your name gets moved to the bottom of the list. If you get to be number one, you are the queen which is not necessarily good. If you are queen and don't finish a quilt in your reign of 7 days, you have to pay a FQ to the kitty. I hope that this is clear. If not let me know. Kyia |
Do you have the name of the quilt in your picture? It is beautiful - love the colors.

fayza...........
how about pictures.......at least some of the 15 finished tops..... please....... |
Fabric Stash...buying fabric...You can imagine my stash since we have two homes and I have to have 2 of everything so when I'm in each I'll have the fabric I need. You never stop buying even if you don't have a project in mind...it's just a fabric you love and have to have for the future. And it's strange how when you start a project you just never have the right backing or binding to finish it off and have to go shopping again...I guess it's just a quilter's life....

OH! This is going to be a FUN thread! <wave>

Churn dash 10. Hannah Montana HELP!!!!! Maybe this will motivate me to finish (ALL OF THEM) You've been quilting for a year. You've completed 15 quilts with another 10 in the works. And you're worried about having a fabric addiction? I started quilting 5 years ago, and it took me 3 1/2 years to finish my first quilt. Which if you want to get technical is still not finished because I haven't sewn the binding down. Though in my defense I didn't own a sewing machine for the first year and a half I was working on it and my teacher lived more than an hour away from me and had small children so lessons were sporadic at best. But I digress... Honestly...I think at the rate you're going you might not be buying fabric fast enough. |
LOL ... clever <wave>
|
You are way ahead of me, I started to quilt in August 2009 and well I have only made 1 wall hanging so far. But I did participate in 2 swaps and 3 monthly swaps, So I have made many blocks. Does that count? lol!
I have a maigor fabric addiction but I seam to spend way to much money on it without noticing and honestly I don't even see a whole lot of fabric for the price I spent. yikes! :( I have only been working since August so I have been spending as I have been recieving my pay cheques. :( I need to really cut back on my spending (I could have bought the embroidery machine I want already) if I would have not spent so much on fabrics lately. Oh well I will learn from this I hope? HUGS! :0 |

WOW! You are doing great. The one word I love is "DONE". When a quilt is finished it feels great - also like
a burden is taken off my shoulders. A lot of my quilts have deadlines. But it's tough to give away a quilt and "let go" after it has become part of me with all the sewing and quilting and planning. I use 2 timers. One goes off and I hear it but just have to finish something and then when the second one goes off a few minutes later I kow I better get going. I sew at night around 2. It feels like it's "extra" time. When I want to subdue the addition, I put sheets over my two open machines that are in cabinets and try to stay away. The problem is that the family computer and ironing board used daily is in that room too. Well that's all the confession for now. Hubby just got home, got to go. |
What's the name of the third one; made in beiges or tans with white? I really like that pattern.
By the way, ladies, when you find fabric that you "just want" for your stash, how much do you usually buy? I'm kind of a newbie, so I'm never sure whether to go ahead and get 3 yards or 2 yards or even 1 yard. How do you judge??? |

Now for the confession..... I am addicted to buying fabric. However, I must say my fabric stash is not very large at all. When I buy fabric I usually try to purchase enough to do a quilt and I will NOT leave it in my fabric tote I have to cut it up and have it ready to be sewn. And let me just say it worries me to death when its laying in my sewing room and hasn't been cut. I loose sleep over it!!! Finally when its cut I can bounce back and forth from project to project until its finished. (I'm going to make another post listing all of my current projects, maybe if I share their status I'll hurry and finish them.) After a year of this madness the projects are really building up on me!!! And my fabric shopping addiction is not slowing down :) that's funny....both of the above! While rearranging a "stack" of quilt tops waiting to be finished, I spotted a plastic bag and rediscovered a large print Asian fabric that I obviously had bought for another OBW...yup, I'm addicted to them also. I had completely forgotten about it and it got buried! Will have to wait until I finish at least three WIP. Must hurry since I've got 6 more QFK's kits due to arrive on the 6th. :-P  |

I love your Snowman. Do you have this pattern? If so, can you share with me how to get it too?
Thank you! Karen |
