Quilter's Emporium in Sugar Land, TX and Stitchin' Heaven in Mineola, TX both do Carribea quilting cruises. Stitchin' Heaven also does bus tours. I have never taken a cruise, either, but an Alaska quilting cruise is on my bucket list. Hope you find one you enjoy.

My SIL and I are taking a quilting cruise in May! I live in Texas and she lives in California, so it will be fun in many ways. We selected a cruise based on a class I took at Houston this year. The teacher was Charlotte Angotti and the cruise is through Stitchin Heaven (stitchinheaventravel.com). There are several cruises to choose from. We are doing Girlfriends at Sea, May 1-8 cruising the Western Carribean. There will be 3 teachers and 3 classes.

You said you are looking to take a cruise alone. If you take this one, look for the SILs and you'll have two friends from the git-go! PM me if you want more info.

I've been on 5 or 6 quilting cruises and loved them. The sewing is on your days at sea and the port days are free to do as you please, Even if you decide not to do a particular class you meet lots of nice people.

Actually, there are a couple companies that do river cruises in North America. I'm looking at doing one of these with my parents (to see if they like it... if they do, I'm hoping to take them to one in Europe). I know you can do them on the St. Lawrence River (in Canada) and the Mississippi; I suspect there are others, if you just choose a big waterway and Google it.

These aren't quilting cruises, but might be good if you're worried about seasickness, or want to do a lot of touring.

the Columbia River out here on the Northwest USA coast has smaller boats and big paddlewheel cruises. Beautiful area of the world!

I took a quilt cruise to Alaska, alone. As said before, the quilting time is at sea. Actually, I prefer to travel alone. I meet some of the most interesting people. My last trip was a bus tour to Novia Scotia. Had a wonderful time.

If I'm paying the money for a cruise, I sure don't want to stay in my room sewing. That's my opinion, though.

I posted earlier and still say "go for it" .... that said... if you search out the forum here... I'm sure you'll see many postings for and against.... and MINE... the one I did was put on by a LQS (not in business now) but in my opinion the owner did not plan it in a way that would be pleasing to others... except for herself and her young family that she had with her. This particular cruise left from Houston after the show... which was also in the agenda...but poorly planned as we missed events, etc. Our project was a hand project and the venue..... the disco room... white plastic chairs and very poor lighting....BUT.... I think that if you went with an internationally known teacher you would be thrilled. Our quilting group were certainly not noisy nor rude, BUT..... you do encounter this no matter what road you choose to walk these days, unfortunately.
This last 21 day cruise we did to the Panamas... you receive a notice under your door with events.... I was thrilled that every "at sea" day there was a stitch and bitch event planned. (DH was with me but happy to do his own thing while I enjoyed the company of fellow stitchers). We had a lovely time and learned a little from each other.... some of us quilted....crocheted...knit... etc. If you have the health and the funds.... try it and judge for yourself.... I think you will have a wonderful time... and yes... pay extra for the privilege of your own cabin space, but it's worth it, if you need it.

Doug Leko also has a cruise planned... I am working on one of his patterns called Falling Stars and purchased two others at his class. I think a cruise would be fun and other than the idea of having to pack my sewing machine and supplies (in addition to clothing and accessories) I would definitely try it at least once.
