Current magazines do not have much new in the way of patterns, just new fabric using old patterns.
I agree about finding patterns online and the thing about storing a number of magazines. I will be getting the 'Block' soon and that is one that should be well worth the cost.

I use to get them ALL but now I only get the Quilting one from Better Homes and Garden. I did just subscribe to the Missouri Star new one too.

I am interested in a magazine that teaches new skills and techniques. The ones I have looked at just have patterns. Has anyone seen one like I am interested in? I may look at the one you mentioned Crafty Pat.

Am also awaiting the first edition of "Block" from Missouri Star Quilts. Haven't been pleased with subscriptions in the past for all the same reasons already mentioned. Hoping Block will b different.

AS a beginner five years ago, I found Easy Quilts which was just perfect for me. I made several projects from that magazine and gradually my skills grew, and I became a better quilter. I am still overwhelmed by very complicated patterns or ones that have thousands of pieces. Now, one of my favorite magazines is American Patchwork and Quilting. I prefer more traditional patterns. Most of the other magazines are full of more modern looking quilts, which is not my taste. I would suggest you go to your local bookstore or even the magazine section of Wal-Mart, thumb through the magazines that are on display to find one that seems to match your style and interests.

I have worked in subscription services. They have to work weeks ahead to prepare your labels. Shipping or mailings are cheaper when they are huge. Some magazines will do second shippings to get it to you faster. That is one reason you get renewal info early, but they also get more $ by getting your money quicker ;-)

I subscribed to Missouri Star Quilt Co's Block. I dropped all my other subscriptions long ago because they are mostly ads and old patterns done over in new fabric lines.

I am letting all my subscriptions run out - just have McCall's left and don't intend to renew. The reason is none of them are using a variety of projects - they all seem to be featuring quilts in different sizes and maybe a,wall hanging. Truthfully, I have picked up more on this Board then I have from any of the magazine's I subscribed to. At this point I have so many projects lined up I will have to live for another 100 years - LOL. Anyway, hope you find the subscriptions that you like.

You might want to check to see if your local public library has quilting magazines. Mine has 3 that you can browse through and about 3 in an online format. Good luck!
