a little spray starch is a great help. faric seems to cut better and it is a must when working with bias cuts like a pin wheel. good luck. connie

Carolaug, I want your cat! We had one that looked just like yours for 13 years and still miss her.

Don't give up! Quilting will get easier and your seams will go together like clockwork! Practice, practice, practice - but don't worry if you aren't perfect! Quilting is my therapy and I love it! You will too!

You know, HSTs are my favorite unit, and I never cut a triangle. Look up Eleanor Burns or Billie Lauder for quick & easy HSTs!

Boy do I have a lot to learn. I almost gave up half way through the first block.
I discovered that I can't cut a straight line to save my soul. On the first block I was not very careful at keeping with the 1/4" seams. It took some real work to get all the seams lined up right. On the second block I was very careful and everything lined up much nicer. Im really glad I decided to learn on scraps rather then the moda fabric I wanted to order. I'll save the good stuff for the next quilt.

See? You have already learned the best lesson. Practice blocks are your friend! I collect mine and make charity quilts with them.

I agree with Carolaug. The quilt is beautiful, but it's seems challangeing for a first time quilt. Go for it, but remember that you are swimming in deep water. If you find some of the blocks are too hard, skip them and make two of an easier one.
As time goes on, the projects will get easier.

I have discovered that my favorite quilt is always the "Next" one. I learn with each new technique I try. and it takes PPP to get it even close to right. Welcome to the world of friends you will find here, and keep at it, it does start to make sense after a while.

I finished a quilt top that was a kit that a friend gave me. Back to my pinwheels tomorrow. I was really picky about the kit and Im proud as a peacock in a henhouse about how everything lined up just right. I now know what I was doing wrong on the pinwheel seams. My girls are already fighting over who gets it when its done.
