I seem to like it more, even though some days I think I'll put things away for awhile.....always something new to do or do for.

I honestly don't know what I would do now, if I didn't quilt! I grew up sewing, mostly my own clothes, & loved it. Then I discovered quilting, love it now, as I don't need to keep making myself clothes constantly. I did alot of counted cross stitch before I taught myself to quilt, so don't do much of that now. But quilting is my sanity, & like what I have been looking for, to do, all my life. Love it, & can't imagine ever giving it up!... Maybe, to some, it's a passing fad, something else they toyed with for awhile, but never got seriously into, but not me, no way!....I quilt for me, for my sanity, for my soul, & I love it!...

I love shopping for the fabric, touching it is emotionally satisfying. Picking a pattern is okay. Cutting is almost the best fun, although there are a couple of fabrics I've bought and then didn't want to cut. I really love piecing, working on my sewing machine, letting the fabric go under the needle. I don't do much of the quilting but want to get back into hand quilting if I can find a comfortable place to do it. Been making quilt for about 10 years now and still love it.

Gearing up to start another one right now.Buying fabric is wonderful, choosing a pattern, cutting out, then piecing blocks is all good.Squaring up the blocks is my least fav part. It's not a hobby, but a part of my life. Do you still like making quilts.....even tho it may have been a "few" yrs since you started? |
I started quilting when my 33 year old daughter was still in grade school. I had received an ad in the mail regarding Georgia Bonesteel's Spinning Spools, where you received a pattern, including picture of the finished quilt and all the plastic templates needed. My daughter saw one she liked, so we picked out the fabric she liked and began a full size quilt. This was my first and last handquilted quilt top. Then DH saw a crib size pieced basket quilt block in Amish colors - no problem, just make more blocks. I machine quilted that 110 x 110 quilt using my Kenmore sewing machine. Nobody told me it was too big to quilt, so I did it. Then DS wanted a blue and black irish chain with a leopard backing - and the list goes on. I was hooked and seriously addicted to quilting and I love it. Even my sister told me that although I had done dozens of other crafts, quilting was the one I stuck with and enjoyed the most and she was right, God bless her. So yes, not only is quilting still enjoyable for me, it is the one and only thing that keeps me sane (relatively) since we're retired and together 24/7, plus I love giving the quilts away to friends and family, plus selling a few along the way. Quit quilting - never.

STill absolutely LOVE quilting. I enjoy the majority of the process. The ends justify the means for sure.
I love seeing the finished projects being loved by those who I've given the quilts to. |
I started in 1986.
I go through spurts with it. Sometimes I go several months before touching any fabric and than other times I can't put it down. So, yes I still find it enjoyable to say the least. I also scrapbook so the two keep me busy. |

I have been quilting for 25 years and as long as there is fabric to buy I will love making quilts!
Still love quilting, sewing and being creative.
Quilting is my passion. Hardly a day passes that I don't put some stitches in SOMETHING! Not only do I love quilting, I find it is therapy for me. Since my stroke about a year ago, I see great improvement in my left hand. Before, I could only touch the tips of my thumb and forefinger together. Now I can clench my fist at well (Left side!!!!!)....
You betcha!! even after 30 to 40 years.
Sometimes I go through a spell where I have to get away from it for awhile and that is usually in the summer when I am gone for about a month. Then I"m so anxious to get going again.
More so now that ever before! I now have the time to do the creative beautiful things that I have always wanted to do, but lacked time ( and money).
Love it now more than ever! I started quilting in 1992, but only did machine piecing and hand quilting. I started learning machine quilting near the end of 2008. I now have a long arm and just can't get enough of each step of the process...beginning to end! Like someone said before, it is not a hobby it is part of my life!

I have 2 tops ready to be quilted. While cleaning up this morning after putting the border on the last one, I found a bag of scraps someone gave me, started going through it and decided there might be enough make at least a lap quilt.
I seem to think, ah now that one is finished I'll take time off for a while, then another quilt attacks me. "Make me, make me, I'm next" (or is that the voices in my head?) Oh well, I'm off on another tangent! |
[quote=mucky]Sometimes I go through a spell where I have to get away from it for awhile...
I do the same, but I find after a short time I'm drawn to looking at fabrics, patterns, quilting magazines, Amazon for quilting books, etc. I love designing and piecing. The actual quilting is my least favorite part of the process, but I do it so that I can have this quilt to enjoy and can start another. It's been about 25 years since I made my first quilt, and I still get excited about starting my next one. |
I have been quilting half of the time you have, but I love it. The anticipation of getting the fabrics, the cutting but most of all putting it together is always such a good feeling of fullfilment for me. I don't know if I will ever get tired ot it.
Is there anything else? It is one of the greatest, most fun, most creative, most wonderful, joyful thing I do. When someone asks me that, I say, " The only place housework comes before quilting is in the dictionary." Really, I thinks only quilters understand that. Non-quilters, not so much. I've even been called a fanatic. Yes, I do love to do "fan" quilts! hehe
I still love quilting after 22 years. I have many more ideas of quilts to make than I have years left! I hope I never lose the passion!!! :D
I reckon I do....I've done 56 so far this year...so yep, it just gets "more funner" each year!
still love it after 20 some years. always something new to learn and do!!!
Sometimes I get a little burn out so I back away and do something else (painting my yard fence now) but I can't wait to finish this so I can get back to quilting.
Absolutely. Quilting is my escape from all the stress in my life. I love watching the pieces I cut coming together to make something beautiful. I really wish I had more time to quilt.
I started in 1980 and still love it. I find that when I get burned out with it or that a project isn't going my way, I take a few days off, read a book that has been waiting to be read or get out of the house and go have lunch with my friends. It is amazing how much better I feel when I get back home or turn the last page of that book. I am ready to get into my studio and figure what went wrong and tackle it head on. I can't imagine not quilting. Jan

I've been quilting a little over 10yrs. and it gets better everyday. It's certainly become my passion. I'm like cranky 3yr old in need of a nap if I go too many days without quilting.
yup
I hope I always do!

EXACTLY . . . well put. And, now that I have more time to do it makes it even more enjoyable; not "fitting" it in between housework, kids activities, kids homework, kids bath time, hubby's supper, inlaws dinners and a job. ahhh |
I've been quilting for more than 30 years. Now that I'm an empty nester, I enjoy it more than I ever did. I don't have to stop to pick up kids, drive to piano/soccer/girl guide/boy scouts/etc. etc. etc. I am enjoying learning new techniques (mainly from the quilting board) and stretching my old brain to do new things. I'm also not as picky about how my house looks so housework doesn't get in the way!
U-BETCHA!!!!!
I just started my 3rd quilting year. I have learned a lot already, but I have so much more to learn. But all in all, I love it. The feel of the fabric, and escaping into my own sewing world is something I look forward to everyday.

Emerald - what a wonderful way of expressing your love of quilting. I've been quilting only a year and love it. I just don't seem to get enough time to quilt. Being retired now, one would think there is plenty of time - I wish. But enjoy it when I do quilt. wsb
