Thanks for the info. I was just talking to my neice last night at Thanksgiving about making a bunch of canvas bags.:>

whinnytoo 11-25-2011 04:07 AM

Thanks for the heads-up! I would love to get a larger one, but it will have to wait until next week, when the crowds have thinned out

lkuzmin 11-25-2011 04:12 AM

I just got back from Joann's and I was armed with coupons. Bought about $80 worth of fabric and paid only $17.00. It wasn't too crowded. They had a lot of employee's working so it moved quickly.

I just got back from Joann's and the crowd was bad at all. They had lots of employees working today so it moved quickly. I bought about $80 worth of fabric and after coupons, I paid only $17.00. Well worth it.

I've been getting my canvas from HF. About the same price. Learned the hard way that paint goes through. Years ago, was using it for a production back drop. Laid it on the deck to roll out a foundation white before painting the scene. Still have white paint on the deck. DH getting use to my little whopsies, and has mellowed out. Blue paint on the white columns of the house from painting branches, before cutting them off the bush, to use in a decorative display. Plugs out of the (old) carpet where I gun basted a quilt together. Dings in the walls when rearranging for a sewing room, from carrying something alone which was really a multi- person project. Currently, the (new) carpet is full of glitter where I've tracked it in from the solarium, having just finished making 37 table decorations for an upcoming banquet. Guess I should have laid down a piece of canvas in the doorway between the two rooms.

Come on, Karen! Get into the spirit of Black Friday. ;) I, on the other hand, won't be stepping foot inside any store today. LOL!!

Thanks! :)

We do not have Lowes in our little corner of the woods but I will try Home Hardware as I am making lots of bags in the near future. Thanks for the info.

cheryl222 11-25-2011 06:15 AM

I've picked them up at Harbor Freight for even less with the coupons.

bobquilt3 11-25-2011 06:25 AM

Now there is something that would never have crossed my mind. Thanks for the heads up.

GailG 11-25-2011 06:25 AM

The only quilting supplies I've ever bought at Lowes is a strip of wood to use as a ruler to draw my crosshatchng lines. BUT I have bought cake decorating supplies there. Tiny paint rollers for smoothing icing, wire cable for decorations, and a miter box and saw for sizing pillars and dowel rods....

ywoodruff5 11-25-2011 06:30 AM

Great information - thanks for sharing.

Kath12 11-25-2011 06:33 AM

Sounds good to me - It's on my list!

Sallyflymi 11-25-2011 06:42 AM

Thank you for the heads up. May get more to make slipcover.

oklady 11-25-2011 06:43 AM

I saw a use for this cloth that I want to make into a new family tradition. It was in Lowe's newsletter to use permanent makers and draw, write all over it for a table coth (put something under it in case it bleeds through)Everyone in my family from young to old will enjoy this.

Oh, I remember I got one of those a few years ago. I wonder where I put it? My group is tellling me I need to square my quilt before I give it to the LA to quilt-I kind of went on the assumption you can cut off what you don't like when you're done. But as I've learned it has something to do with how easily it can be loaded....so time to work on squaring my tops.

Great idea. I have a new ironing board that needs a good cover. BTW, Harbor Freight has two sizes of 10 oz canvas drop cloths, both on sale now. The 9' x 12' is $14.99 and the 4' x 12' is $7.99. That is a lot of canvas for the price.

hannajo 11-25-2011 06:53 AM

I've been needing something to lay down when I spray-baste. This sounds like just what I need.

That is a great idea, Hannajo. I will send my DH to pick one up for me next week. He always wants an excuse to go to Lowe's. And gives me more time to get the rest of my Christmas quilting finished.

damaquilts 11-25-2011 08:09 AM

My daughter and I used them as furniture covers . After they are washed they soften up and it protects from the animals. Really energetic people dye or paint them. I will be going to get some for ironing board covers since I can't get the duck cloth cheap like I use to. Thanks

babyboomerquilter 11-25-2011 10:32 AM

Thanks for the tip! Sounds like an awesome deal. Thanks so much!

jeannedog 11-25-2011 11:15 AM

Gee Wiz--do not tell more people they will be sold out before I can get there. (HA HA) ( grate info) Jeanne

Earleen 11-25-2011 12:40 PM

[SIZE=4] Are you talking about drop cloths? I can't seem to find where it started with the supplies. All I see are supplies from Lowe's not the first post. Thanks.

quiltymom 11-25-2011 12:42 PM

Thanks never thought about these places We have lowes menards and home depot!!!

gmavis 11-25-2011 01:30 PM

My husband got the canvas tarps at Lowe's put grommets in it and used it for a "curtain" in our gazebo to keep out the sun. Much less $ than if we had bought the ones specifically for the gazebo.

bjnicholson 11-25-2011 02:11 PM

Good to know, Jacquie. I'm in the process of setting my studio (aka dining room) and I'll need something for my pressing station. Thanks!

JoanneS 11-25-2011 02:32 PM

Thanks - I'll use mine to make aprons. I'm going to embroider on them. My daughter has a baking biz, and I'll embroider her logo. Ditto for totes. I've been looking for canvas blanks, but this will be cheaper.

minky 11-25-2011 02:47 PM

OMG!!! I would have never thought of that!!!! I need canvas for tote bag bottoms!!! Thanks, what a great find!!!

vwquilting 11-25-2011 03:27 PM

Thanks for the tip.

JoanneS 11-25-2011 03:27 PM

DH came in while I was reading this thread. I told him about the canvas, and he went right to Lowe's and bought 1 for me and 1 for himself!

Debbie C 11-25-2011 04:04 PM

I bought 2 packages of the painter's canvas from Home Depot, size 10 feet by 20 feet. I took them to the laundermat and washed and dried them. Then I made slipcovers for my daughters 8' sofa and two matching club chairs. They are very modern looking now that she has done a contemporary design on them with fabric paint. VERY COOL!!! A Lot of fabric for very little cash!!

stitcherlady 11-25-2011 04:07 PM

Thanks for the tip. Will have to check this out.

needles3thread 11-25-2011 04:11 PM

Quilters are so inventive. Great idea!

caspharm 11-25-2011 04:31 PM

Great idea for the ironing board. I will have to check out Lowe's prices.

I have one already, because someone told me they're good for blocking quilts. You use it to help protect the flooring (carpet or hardwood) from the damp quilt.

Betty Ruth 11-25-2011 06:10 PM

I don't need any canvas, but I have a stack of templates that he nice female clerk at Lowes cut for me in just the size
that I needed. My across the street neighbor went in with me, and the total cost came to about what I paid for one 6 1/2
inch square template. There are two drawbacks. First, they can only cut straight lines. Second, your new templates will be perfectly clear with no guidelines on them.

franc36 11-25-2011 06:16 PM

Thanks for the information. Lowe's here I come!

Scakes 11-25-2011 06:34 PM

thanks for the heads up on this. I'll have to check out our Lowe's and see if they have them.

kathy6696 11-25-2011 06:38 PM

Great ideas, every time my husband sends me to lowes or home depot to pick something up for him, i look for something to buy myself.....sort of as a compensation...lol. Now ther is a new item I can look for.

granny2cc 11-25-2011 07:10 PM

I am needing to make extra leaders for my HQ16. This will be perfect and so much cheaper than JoAnn's - even with a coupon.

craftymatt2 11-25-2011 07:46 PM

I was in JoAnns today and had a blast, of coarse it ticked some people off and made others laugh, it was so crowded, this customer had her cart so packed with fleece, it would fall over onto the floor, so, she would pick it up and the pile would fall over again, because it was such tight quarters, people kept tripping, and would get mad at her, i finally said, very loudly, why don't you watch where your walking, and then i would say, Happy Thanksgiving, i guess you had to be there. I bought lots and lots of flannel for pillowcases, and some very pretty quilted fabric to make my DIL and overnite bag with matching shoe bag, and lots of pockets. Hope she likes it.
