Eh. Anything and everything goes in my house. To heck with colour schemes. Do what you want in YOUR house!!

leonajo 01-14-2011 04:01 AM

I change my placemats and tablle runners to go with the seasons, they do not always match the color scheme and they look fine. Kinda perks things up....

mderby 01-14-2011 04:18 AM

If it makes you happy, go for it!!

annlouise 01-14-2011 04:28 AM

When it is Spring or I want it to be Spring I bring out the bright cheery colors for table toppers/table cloths, and the clothes I wear. I need a variety of colors in a drawer to pull out for my moods/whims. Don't question your choices - you felt it was right at the time.

Jackie D 01-14-2011 05:02 AM

What about the different Holidays and Seasons, I love putting out a wall hanging or a table runner, like Easter for instance, pastels and Springy colors. That sure does not go with my everyday colors. But I do it anyway. My Grandkids love it.

My house is a quilt art museum!

caspoohbear 01-14-2011 05:29 AM

I'm thinking of going bright and crazy for a shower curtain, even though everything in there now is subdued brown and teal. I just have seen too many maybe patterns, I have to decide on one.

quilter68 01-14-2011 05:39 AM

Whatever your heart desires!

That being said, my house is roughly: the living room is sort of formal - portraits and style of furniture; Dining room is all still lifes - paintings and needlecrafts and whatever; family room and kitchen are Folkart including things that my children made about 40 years ago.
It is my house and I like it!

Twinnie 01-14-2011 05:39 AM

After 55 years of marriage I'd call our decorating scheme "eclectic" or a mixture of old, new, modern, antique, and I find it interesting. Just got rid of the old boring beige carpeting and have a red Danish modern area rug I bought in 1961 and had put away for several years. It brought life to my room and I got a new white IKEA storage unit with some red touches and it transformed the room and led to other nice additions. I don't even think of a "decorating" rule and wouldn't listen to someone else. Let them decorate their house and I won't advise them except to look at mother nature. She decorates profusely with color and it's great. Be brave and bold.

Linda1 01-14-2011 05:49 AM

I don't worry about matching. I just love to make quilts and have them where I want them. I really like to see the grand kids snuggled in them.

It's hard being the only quilter in a family...no one understands your passion. Having a unique idea and creating it is a wonderful thing! Go for it

I agree--there are some things you need to do "your way"--decorating with your quilted creations is one of them!
Enjoy and absolutely, do not feel guilty because something doesn't fit someone else's idea of what matches and what does not.

Diane C. 01-14-2011 06:09 AM

Tell your SIL to resign from the quilt police. Make whatever YOU like. Diane C.

Brenda M 01-14-2011 06:11 AM

If you like it... then it's perfect!! That's all that counts.

Bluehouse 01-14-2011 06:13 AM

It's your house and you do what ever you like! I love all sorts of colors and styles.......and I put them out and then change and mix things....whatever our little hearts desire. I have never been "matchy" on my house styles...and I never will.

skothing 01-14-2011 06:24 AM

Okay let me share an experience in a local church I had. I was a mother with 4 children going to a strict legalistic church. Because my husband didn't go with me I had to go into a small room that those of us in an unaccompanied mothers had. Our knees touched as we sat in a circle in the out of the room away.(abusive) We where told, this church was the only way to know God, serve Him and be saved. I had had enough and ask how do you know this as the disciples haven't gone to this church. When God created He created carnations, roses etc. If He wanted uniformity He would have created it so.

This is what I believe about color, God created color so lets use it and enjoy the splendor of His creation as we create our works.

sumcoop 01-14-2011 06:33 AM

If I am not mistaken...I have learned in quilting....
Make yourself happy!!!!!!!!!!!

BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just wondering if you SIL is the infamous Quilting  Police? IF not, then why listen to her and have HER:twisted: ruin YOUR :) fun?

Happy Treadler 01-14-2011 07:03 AM

Ya know, I really just need to stop asking people what they think unless they also quilt (which I know no one). I think my new mindset for 2011 is if I like it and it makes me happy, it's good enough! ;)

Dianne1 01-14-2011 07:08 AM

I have been quilting about 25yrs. and I think I have one quilt in my home that I made for my DH. I usually make 2 or 3 a month and wind up giving them to family and friends. I just make patterns that I like and try to fit them to people that mean something to me.

arimuse 01-14-2011 07:12 AM

not just "good enough", sweetie, its TERRRRIIFFIC!

Happy Treadler 01-14-2011 07:14 AM

I kinda gave up on making things for our family because they don't seem to appreciate the time I put into it, and especially the thought behind it. It's like it just gets put away and forgotten about, never to be seen again.

ledraj 01-14-2011 07:15 AM

In my house if I like it it goes. Maybe that is because when I was first married my home was decorated in Early Everyone Else's.

steelecg 01-14-2011 07:18 AM

there was a time when all things matched, but I think the new way eclectic and most things go

ruthrec 01-14-2011 07:18 AM

The quilt that is in this picture is a king made from Batiks and it is gorgeous if I do say so. I made it for a granddaughter and my daughter put it on her bed. It covers the pillows and hangs to the floor on both sides like a bedspread. The colors are so vibrant my daughter painted to room and hung new sheers to match the quilt! It is the focal point of the room. So I say, do what you want and the rest falls into place. I love color.

ruthrec 01-14-2011 07:19 AM

lol...I like that..."Early Everyone Else's." May I use it?

I agree with this. Look at nature and see what a beautiful display of color we have. And most of the time nothing "matches". It just makes a beautiful whole.

CarolynFisJus 01-14-2011 07:38 AM

Please say yes...because I just made a quilt with bright orange and all around the color wheel and my house is pale greens...I love the colors.

Happy Treadler 01-14-2011 07:40 AM

I'm thinking it's like adding a sunset to your home. ;)

quilt3311 01-14-2011 07:42 AM

Oh, my gosh, is my latest quilt supposed to coordinate with my rooms? Not going to happen around here. I think of my quilts as art and will put them anywhere I want and if someone doesn't like it they can go home!!! Sorry if that sounds harsh, but hey its our house and if we want my quilts all over the place,it really isn't anyones business. My latest is always draped somewhere whether it blends with the room or not.

flikkem 01-14-2011 07:50 AM

Wouldn't the world be boring if we were all alike? Go for what you like, it's your house.

catrancher 01-14-2011 08:11 AM

In my home, I make the rules about such things. So, yes, if I say so.
