quilts made from panels
 

Hello... my sweet little niece asked me to make her a quilt - how can I say no :)

She picked out this panel

description says the panel is 44" x 36" and I am wanting to make a twin size quilt out of this. I can easily add to the panel to make it larger, but I am looking for ideas on what the best way to do this would be.

I can add small inner border and then an outer border, but to reach twin size I will have to add larger strips to the top and bottom than to the sides

Any ideas on what to add to the top and bottom.. that will have a nice design and balance out the quilt?

I am working on a panel quilt, large throw and it's Winnie the Pooh. I added sawtooth stars around it - 5 different colors matching the panel with white sashing. With the white sashing I fudged it a little on each side to make the stars fit right and added a border.

Macybaby and JaneQuilter - were those 36" x 45" panels that you started with in the center?

I just finished making a panel quilt and just kept adding borders of co-ordinating fabric to get the size I wanted. The fabric was plain or tone on tone as I wanted the panel to be the feature and nothing to distract from it.

Perhaps get some coordinating colored fabrics and make some blocks for rows at either end. Pinwheels, stars, square in a square, etc. Then a couple borders to tie it all together. :)

What a pretty panel!

That panel is almost square, so it's going to take some maneuvering to get it to a rectangular shape. Another idea (not easy, but would be very elegant) would be to enclose the panel in an oval frame (applique). That would give it more length than width, and you can add borders from there.
