Connecting Threads has a good variety of solid colors & they are very reasonable. I've used them quite a lot.

I love white in quilts. It is clean, refreshing and peaceful. Several years ago, I saw a picture of a simple pinwheel quilt on white. The pinwheels are bright colors and the background is white. A group of 4 pinwheel blocks is separated by a white square so that the quilt is mostly white. It is simply stunning, and is posted on my refrigerator waiting for me to try my hand at it. While searching for a picture of that quilt on the web, I came across this, which I think is equally stunning: http://appliqueaddict.blogspot.com/2...eel-quilt.html |
I too love quilts with lots of white in them they look so sharp and fresh - I only use a little because if I did too much would spend the entire time picking of the dog hairs which always find there way to my fabric no matter how careful I am!!!!!! he he (I do wash all my quilts before they are passed on)

Love the Kona snow or white and I also love black.
|
Awesome quilt! I love to try out for my gr. daughter. White on white looks too good, good for the eyes too!!
|
I've seen a lot of white lately too, and it sure is nice. I tried a gray for a backgrownd and it really made the colors pop. You might want to try that one too. Try it on something small to see how you like it.,

You know aside from stains, I think using the white wouldn't be any more difficult to take care of as compared to other colors. I have noticed some fabrics tend to fade over time, at least the white is white or sort of white. Still going to give this one a try, EVENTUALLY. Thanks for all of your input. Yes the dark and the white with the pinwheels is stunning!

I love white in quilts, too!
I make them alot. They always look so fresh and clean. Use the Warm & White batting (OR ANY WHITE batting). If needed, use a scoop of Oxy-clean in the wash with them to keep them bright. :) |

I like the ones with white too. I'm scared to death of white though-I always think the dirt just jumps on it. I have a few yards of Kona white that I may use in a quilt soon. I might get some of that Kona snow too.

I agree - white seems to make all the other colors pop!

I am making a double wedding ring quilt for my son and daughter in law. They just got married 10-29 . I am using white so I can print their wedding pictures on and black as the next block , instead of making the ring with material I am going to trace on the fabric and lay black narrow ribbon where the circles go on the white blocks and white ribbon on the black blocks , as not to take away from the pictures on the white blocks of their wedding. Am excited to soon get started on them . Trish

My quilt is mostly white. I love the look too, but I have a long haired black cat who lives on my bed. My quilt lives in storage. :) /

I think using white in a quilt makes for a beautiful vintage/old-fashioned quilt. I did a "twist" (my take) of Fons and Porters "Granny Stars" quilt using floral/cottage scraps and a white on white for the background. It is one of my favorite quilts. It has been loved and washed several times with no issues and I will continue to "love" it. IMO, the quilts I make, whether I keep them or gift them, are made to be loved and used.

Thank you for noticing, Morningstar!
This little "quilt" in my avatar is actually one block only, quilted. It comes from an old BBC mystery tv show that I was watching one time, and OF COURSE seeing a quilt in the scene I had to stop the DVR and run go get my camera to take a picture of this quilt being used as a prop! It was almost exactly these colors and prints, as close as I could match them. And every block was identical. The layout was a sort of "lightning strike" zigzag pattern, which I have never quite figured out. The main pattern is sort of a Lily pattern I think. Or it could be a rising, or "morning," star as well. In the movie it was nothing special to the story, but it made my day to see an old quilt like that. One day I might figure out how to make it "zigzag" properly.

A few 6-7 yrs ago ,a relative gave me a quilt bought in a store. It's white with a tiny amt of embroidered branches with a few leaves scattered on it & stipple quilted.I wash all quilts/blankets at least twice a yr Spring & Fall. The white quilt looks like new. I wouldn't hesitate to make a white quilt.

Thanks for the kudos. I really enjoyed making this quilt and so far have had no problems with the "white factor". I use it as a "power nap" quilt and it has been through the laundry several times. I figure that if it wears out or something happens to it, I'll just make another with a different pattern - a self-fulfilling prophecy!
