Hi
What do people think of Quiltsmart patterns? Are they easy to use and do you consider this "cheating"? Marand |
I would not consider it cheating...there is a whole new learning to curve to understanding the directions and getting it done...
|
i dont consiter it cheating i did there double wedding ring looks good and i would have never atemted it the traditional way.
|
I love them. I think their Lone Star method is genius, and I wish they made them in more sizes.
I don't think it looks like I cheated here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-127778-1.htm#3397137 :-) |
Its just like paper piecing a Lonestar. I've made 2 using the quiltsmart.
|
I was thinking of ordering the mariner's compass and double wedding ring. I found a website that has them 40% off. They have the mini compass, not the larger one..
|
I would love the name of that website. I need to do DWR for my niece.

You'll probably have to order a few packages as it's only the lap size. To the left is a list of all the other available packages. |
I made the lone star with the quiltsmart pattern. Note my avatar. It is a twin and they give instructions for the queen and king size also. Mine is a 58" star. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay
|
Yes that is the site. I ordered two DWR.
|
I just ordered the pattern but not the interfacing. According to my pattern, you will need 16 panels of the printed interfacing for a Queen or 18 for a King.
I thought that info might help someone if they planned to order from the mentioned site. |
I don't get what they are! Is it foundation piecing?
|
Yes, sort of. But fusible. The interfacing remains in the quilt.
Watch the video on this page: http://www.quiltsmart.com/khxc/index...58inchlonestar |
I've never seen these before. Definitely would not consider these cheating. You're still making the quilt. I've been wanting to do a lone star - think I will check into this more.

The beauty is that you can get the sections out of the way relatively quickly, and then spend time designing a really cool setting. |

Here's the pumpkin seed I just finished using Quiltsmart. Please don't look too closely at the quilting. I'm still learning on my Nolting Hobby Quilter
|
Would Shakespeare consider writing using a computer as cheating?
I've made two Lonestar quilts using the Quiltsmart pattern and they were my third and fourth quilts ever... I think they are wonderful... can't wait to try the New York Beauty pattern!! There will always be a new and better way to do things.... at least I hope so!! |
okay, I get it now. I don't think it is cheating anymore than sewing strips together to make patchwork blocks. Just another technique to produce a beautiful project!
|
I've made a couple for store samples. A lone star, and just did the mariner's compass. I just bought the double wedding ring for myself. They also have the foundations for purses, and totes. Go to the Quilt Smart site and you should be able to see everything they have to offer.

it is simply a different technique---it still takes work- there is nothing NEGATIVE about using different techniques---using quilt smart is about the same as using a foundation----or paper piecing----no cheating involved----
i've made quite a few different things using quilt smart interfacing- works just like any paper piecing- but the great thing is it stays in ... no hastle of having to remove your foundation |
My avatar was a quiltsmart pattern...very easy to do but I do not consider it cheating. It still takes a lot of time. They are fun to do!!!
|
i have thier apple core pattern from them. i like the way it is turning out..i keep it in my 5th wheel..as an on going project.
|
I highly recommend them. I've made some of her patterns and loved them. I've corresponded with Mattie a few times and found her to be genuinely warm and friendly. She takes great pride in her products and her biggest concern is always that her customers are happy with them.
I give Mattie and Quiltsmart 5 stars. |

We had a workshop at a guild retreat a few years back. I finished a small DWR but didn't have enough of any of the fabrics to make it any larger. :( It is crib size. So I guess some baby will get a cute quilt. I did it in green and orange and I do have enough of the orange for the binding. Maybe that should be the next UFO. It doesn't need much to finish, I would just have to do it!
I do remember needing to buy the hemostat for turning the tubes, they weren't expensive but definitely helpful. I've used them a lot since then. I'd say go for it, especially if you want to finish what could be a more difficult pattern. kathyd Complete DWR top closeup of ring intersections |
this may be dumb
what are quiltsmarts never heard of it |
Lovely quilt!
Interesting product. Question, how easy is it to peel back after ironed? I would trim all the excess ever time not just on the yellow as she did in the video. I was however not thrilled with the raw edge in the video between row one and row two. How lightweight is it? Does the quilt feel stiff? |
I have never seen this before. Thanks for sharing. I don't think it is cheating when you wind up with a beautiful quilt. I definitely going to buy one of the kits and try it.
|
I dont think it is cheating. But as a longarmer, the interfacing stuff stays in there and it is thicker to quilt. you cant hand quilt it. If you send it out tell your longarmer. may make a difference on how it is quilted. I usually dont do very small quilting on these types of quilts, just makes them stiffer.
|
I didn't have any trouble quilting mine. I know of a lady who took out the interfacing, how I don't know as that stuff really doesn't tear that easy. It's not cheating at all as you still are piecing. It's just a new kind of way to do it. Every one have a great day, Huggies, Fay

Deb Once you get the hang of it, you can finish all 8 sections in a couple/few hours. |
I saw a demo at a quilt show using the technique (on fusiable foundation) to make a T-Shirt quilt. Looked much easier than the traditional way
|
I've never seen this before. I watched the video ... but have a question ... what do you do about the raw edges between the rows?
Susan ETA --- duh, never mind. I actually did read all the posts but it didn't sink in until I read it again. |
NO,
|
