Ready, Set...Not Going to Happen

Grrrrr! I've been saving all my red fabric until I could wash it in Retayne. Today was the day but now I can't find my bottle of Retayne anywhere. I'm almost certain I put it in my sewing tin but it's not there. Normally I would blame it on DH but he wouldn't have a clue what to do with it. Maybe we have a ghost. Don't you hate it when you have your day all planned and it goes south before getting started. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 09-30-2012 09:07 AM

It's good to know other people loose stuff, too. I'm always coming home from shopping, putting things away and never seeing it again. I hope you Retayne shows up soon.

fayzer 09-30-2012 09:13 AM

When you find it, it will be right in front of you. Thats what always happens to ME! LOL

Deborahlees 09-30-2012 09:15 AM

I lost a part to a golf flag in my sewing room, didn't find it until I went thru, cleaned and straightened EVERYTHING. There has to be this little gnome/fairy/ghost that lives in all our houses and only comes out when it can frustrate us the most.....and cause the most possible trouble.

SouthPStitches 09-30-2012 10:04 AM

Don't beat yourself up too badly, you are in good (and numerous) company. Just this past week I lost a Moda honey bun roll in my newly organized, cleaned up sewing room. Four days later and after the mood passed, I found it. As folks generously pointed out, many of us are just not good at retrieving.

Tartan 09-30-2012 10:21 AM

Of course you can't find it, it's Sunday. I always lose or misplaced or run out of something when my LQS is closed. Did you maybe put it on the shelf in the laundry area? How about the linen closet?

nativetexan 09-30-2012 10:42 AM

he, he, he. Something is telling you it's not the time yet to sew!!! look for other things, then you may find the Retayne.

MaryMo 09-30-2012 10:44 AM

I put things in a "safe" place so I won't lose them .... and then forget where the "safe" place is. Oh, it's so much fun getting older .....

lillybeck 09-30-2012 10:47 AM

Don't you just hate when that happens

Mickie612 09-30-2012 11:08 AM

Looking for 3 pieces of fabric I bought Friday.

Twisted Quilter 09-30-2012 11:41 AM

Wow, wish I hadn't found it. BTW I found it in a box of scraps. Anyway I washed my gorgeous reds and a few pieces of red & white. Now I have a tub of red and pink pieces. Not sure what happened but I'm really ticked now!

Which is why I highly recommend "Color Catchers". Try running it through the wash again with them...it may work.

LadyElisabeth 09-30-2012 02:38 PM

And of course you know, it will be in the last place you look (becasue then you will have it in your hand). The excuse I use for myself now is, "I am having a senior moment".

grammy1231 10-01-2012 02:47 AM

Looked for 3 hrs Saturday for my reading glasses only to discover they were on my head!!

Lisa49 10-01-2012 02:47 AM

I make a list of things i need and then forget where I put the list or can't find it. LOL

Caswews 10-01-2012 03:59 AM

OH you have the I don't know GREMLINS at your house too ? and its just DH, me and the dog !LOL Well she said (dog) didn't take it no way no how ... LOL

Beehiveof9 10-01-2012 04:44 AM

Oh I feel your frustration! Hope things got better as the day went on!

sherryl1 10-01-2012 04:48 AM

stop fretting.just go buy more.then when you find the origional,it will be a bonus.

captlynhall 10-01-2012 05:23 AM

If you rewash with the color catchers, will you let us know if it worked?

maviskw 10-01-2012 05:37 AM

I am making a red quilt with WHITE contrast. I put some of it in water yesterday, and nothing faded. But I'm not so sure about the rest. I heard you need to use synthrapol. It floats away the excess color, so you need lots of water. It's a soap and sometimes found in the laundry section of Walmart or grocery stores. I had asked at Jo-ann's when I bought the red, and they had no idea what it was or what it was used for. I think you use color catchers with it also. Jo-ann's didn't know what color catchers were either. I found those on line.

karenpatrick 10-01-2012 05:55 AM

Stop looking for it and you will find it.

DogHouseMom 10-01-2012 06:31 AM

Look in the freezer. I found my tampons there once.

sguillot 10-01-2012 06:38 AM

I hate when that happens. I know I have just seen what I need and will get back to it but when I get back to is somehow it's not there so I give up and buy another and then it magicly appears or put it on my mental list of MIA's then one day out of no where it's right in front of my eyes.

Ever since I was a little girl I have lost things and my mother told me that Mr. Nobody must have moved it. Sounds like he lives in your house too. It's not about age, it's Mr. Nobody!

QuiltnLady1 10-01-2012 06:41 AM

I love the gremlins -- they seem to hide just what I need when I don't have time to look for it. I had to buy more fabric for a project because I put it away too well.

For your reds -- I would wet a small piece in warm water, put it on a paper towel with something heavy on top (a jar of pickles) and let it dry. If it bleeds then you know you have to get the excess color out.

Twisted Quilter 10-01-2012 09:16 AM

After a 1/2 box of color catchers and 4 washings, I ended up with red fabric that wouldl be perfect for older traditional patterns where a bright red wouldn't work. Since I plan on making an Underground Railroad quilt someday, these will be perfect. I only lost a couple of the red/white pieces. I finally got tired and threw it all in the dryer.

I would suggest to anyone planning on using the red/white combo in a quilt to read, read, read, the pros and cons of Retayne and Synthralpol before starting your project.

Happens to all of us, especially when we are multitasking and trying to answer three different children with three different
questions. I once put a bag of carrots in the kitchen broom closet, thinking it was the refrigerator?? I found them the next day, but it was too late for supper the night before.

MimiBug123 10-01-2012 10:43 AM

Color catchers are great and available at the grocery store or at WM. I am sorry that happened with your read and whites. I feel your frustration.

I just love it when I find the darnest things in my freeze....and say to myself "what was I thinking...."

Candiquilts 10-01-2012 10:58 AM

when I loose things (often) I just ask the fairies to bring it back!!! I am convenced there is a spirit in my house that moves things around.,....... Usually get it back sooner or later!

jeanharville 10-01-2012 11:08 AM

A ghost lives at my house too and follows me around hidding my stuff! Takes me forever to find it.

barri1 10-01-2012 01:22 PM

I wonder if your bottle of Retayne is in the same place as my roll of package tape. Hope you find it..

nstitches4u 10-01-2012 02:26 PM

I usually don't find what I am looking for until I give up and start searching for something else. Sewing room gremlins can be very evil! lol

barny 10-01-2012 02:34 PM

I'm bad about leaving things in the car, amidst everything else.LOL!

RedGarnet222 10-01-2012 03:35 PM

I use the vinegar setting. I read the retaine warnings after I had bought it and it scared the begeebers out of me!

nuevaquilter 10-01-2012 03:59 PM

Clearly, the way to find whatever you've lost is to by a new [whatever]. Works every time.

 I do the same thing with my lists - can never find them when I need them. I just love the aging process...

rebeljane 10-02-2012 04:45 AM

My husband was cooking tea weekend before last and the knife he was using has disappeared. It still has not turned up nearly a week an a half later. MMMM gremlins afoot.

Yooper32 10-02-2012 04:48 AM

I call these things "treasure hunts" and I am frequently "on" one.

Geri B 10-02-2012 05:00 AM

....I just think of all the "treasures" I will find when I move.....glad to hear others are in the same boat........somedays I doubt my own sanity....
