It really happened

I asked for help with directions for a tote bag from The Creative Thimble last week because I had lost mine. One kind lady told me where to order another one and Dunster implied I'd find it when I bought a new one IT actually happened. The new pattern arrived yesterday and last night I found the original in the bag with the interfacing I had bought at Joans. I had cut out the main and contrast fab went to buy interfacing then life took over.; unexpected house guest etc. . when I got back to it couldn't find directions until I got out the Joans bag last night. If we can't laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at :o:thumbup:

......and you always find what your hunting for in the last place you look !! :)

Stitchnripper 08-22-2015 05:45 AM

Too funny!

nanna-up-north 08-22-2015 06:08 AM

Just glad you found it. This happens to me all the time now that I'm retired..... I guess I was more organized when I worked.... had to know where things were. And of course, the brain getting older doesn't help much either.

ManiacQuilter2 08-22-2015 06:19 AM

As soon as I buy something to replace something that has gone MIA, it shows up. It is better to laugh than to cry.

LOL! Of course, because after you find it you stop looking!

dunster 08-22-2015 06:43 AM

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! I keep telling myself, it (whatever is lost) has to be somewhere. Everything is somewhere...

Nammie to 7 08-22-2015 06:48 AM

That is how I acquired 3 pair of the same scissors! At least you found it -- too late but oh well!

Onebyone 08-22-2015 06:54 AM

Keep the pattern as a reminder to never give up!

mike'sgirl 08-22-2015 05:47 PM

I'm missing some blocks that I need to finish and I know that if I cut new fabric for new blocks that I for sure will find them. I just hate that, haha.

quiltingcandy 08-22-2015 07:23 PM

It was your poltergeist playing games with you. It happens all to often here too. As you say, ya gotta just laugh.

BETTY62 08-22-2015 10:53 PM

Isn't that one of Murphy's laws? LOL

That is because after you find it, there is no need to look anymore.

Yes, Murphy's law will allways triumph over everything else:)

EmiliasNana 08-23-2015 05:59 AM

Sometimes we are so organized, it is a hindrance LOL I say that now as I reorganize my scraps.........ugh. I could have had three quilt tops done by now !

c joyce 08-23-2015 06:45 AM

St. Anthony is the patron saint for lost things so I ask for his help and it always works. "Oh, St. Anthony please come round, something's lost that needs to be found." Don't forget to say thank you when you find it.

AngeliaNR 08-23-2015 07:22 AM

I am still missing a herd of zebras--eventually, I'll find the darned things. Since they are all together on a yard of fabric, they can't have gone far! :)

sash 08-23-2015 07:32 AM

I'm still looking for my Dr. Pepper in a "koozie". Have looked everywhere. Hubby can usually find my missing things. He thinks I threw it away. I loved that koozie.

Dina 08-23-2015 08:02 AM

Well, of course you found it as soon as you replaced it! :) But now you have a spare one you can write on if you need to.

Dina

I have found that one can not have enough scissors. At my house they tend to wander off with my yardsticks. Sewing room Faeries have a wee bit of the imp in them.

puzzler 08-23-2015 02:28 PM

Now, can anyone find my Tardis pattern and the fabric I bought to make it? I remember keeping it all together, but don't even know whose house it's in. Unfortunately, one is my house, the other is my daughter's (genetics anyone?)

caspharm 08-23-2015 02:29 PM

Very funny, but now you can make 2.

cathyre 08-23-2015 05:25 PM

I had this happen just recently , when looking for part for my sewing machine , cleaned my sewing room for five days pulled everything out except one very top shelf , no part to be found so gave up , I sat down at machine and looked up to towards the ceiling ,l must of been just at the right angel and Bingo just caught a glimpse of my tray part I was looking for .....at least I now have a clean sewing room and the part .

ClairVoyantQuilter 08-23-2015 05:42 PM

LOL, I can so relate . . .I've bought a Quick Curves Ruler twice . . .found the first withing 24 hours of buying the second. And I have an extra 1/4" foot for my travel machine because the first was missing and I had to have it . . .only to find the first tucked safely in a drawer at home. Very frustrating. Thanks for reminding me to laugh 😜

MargeD 08-23-2015 06:25 PM

I have lost or misplaced so many things since we moved from a 3-bedroom house with a large sewing room, to a 2 bedroom apt., i am lucky to find the bed at night. Maybe my cat TJ can show me the way as she always walks a couple of feet in front of me when I head for the bed at night and I'm almost always tripping over her, so I lead with my cane and if she gets caught - oops - it's her fault and she doesn't learn what to do. Maybe I need a cat whisperer to come to my apt. and figure her out like he does with dogs. I definitely never lose her, although she pouts when I've been in the hospital and Rehab., so she hides until she decides I've been punished enough. Anyway, I got off track and I meant to talk about my quilting physical limitations. I'll be 69 next month, but there are days I feel like 109 as my brain refuse to work for even simple things. The joys, trials and tribulations for reaching the golden years, when I thought they would be different. I've tried to organize projects, but then I go looking for something else and I need to re-arrange my sewing area again to find the right tote so that maybe I can find things when I want them. I've asked for help, but apparently that request falls on dumb ears, so I just repair, reorganize, and keep trying to do it better. Good luck. I found a therapist and will start seeing her the end of Sept., so I hope she can help me out and I can find a way out of my disorganized ways and why I say things I mean. Hopefully, the first year of nursing school will give my son some understanding of what a patient deals with. Keep me in your thoughts. Happy Quilting to you.

One time our remote went MIA for three days . Tore the living room up looking for it. But it showed up the next time we opened the.....bag of potato chips!!!!

maviskw 08-24-2015 04:29 AM

While I'm sewing, I always wear a long circle of elastic around my neck with my small scissors attached. I lost that scissors and BLACK elastic almost a year ago. Usually, if I just ignore such things, they show up. But not my scissors. I had to create another scissors / elastic necklace.

maxnme01 08-24-2015 05:47 AM

I "lost" the foot pedal for my machine. I couldn't find it anywhere after a class at my guild. Looked everywhere. Went on line, it was stupid expensive, finally found one for half price. It arrived. Took it to my sewing room, moved some fabric...........you got it! I now have two foot pedals for the same machine. SIGH

pmcfarlin 08-24-2015 06:34 AM

Sometimes, after I find what I was looking for, I look in a couple of more places, just so I can say it wasn't in the last place I looked. Seriously!

Maybe the thing to do is look in the last place first (LOL)
(Would that work?)

Diannia 08-24-2015 08:12 AM

I feel your pain. My hubby bought me a new fitbit and I wore it exactly 1 time...1! I can't find that danged thing any place!

vondae 08-24-2015 08:20 AM

I do this same thing all the time. Perhaps you can bless someone by share the extra that you now have. You never know when someone else will need the same instructions.

sassysews2 08-24-2015 08:33 AM

Have you ever bought the same thing repeatedly? My DD and I have the same problem. I will think of something I need to buy, buy it, don't remove it from my memory and the next time I'm at the store I buy another one. Sometimes we wind up with 3 of the same thing before realizing we already have this. Another thing, I find myself buying the same shirt, fabric, pattern, whatever, over and over. I have 3 of the same blouse, bought at different times, if I liked it the first time, I will usually like it the next time I see it, buy it, not remembering that I already have it, have to laugh at yourself, oh, the joy of growing old.

JanieH 08-24-2015 01:09 PM

One quilt I used to go to (sadly gone now) had a policy that if you bought a pattern from them, lost it and bought a second one, and then found the other, if you brought both of them in they would let you exchange one of them for another pattern. We all loved it because it had happened to us one time or another. The owner said they had never had anyone abuse it and had enjoyed being able to give that "perk" to their customers. And I always looked for a pattern that I wanted there first just because I had that "insurance policy".

I love this - will have to remember to do it!

I have started a "Notebook That Tells Me Where Everything Is" where I write down on different alphabet pages where I put things, especially rulers as I have them stored in several different places. It hasn't worked 100%, mainly when I forget to write something down, but it has helped a lot. My niece and her husband love it because if they come over looking for something and I am not here, they check the notebook and can find it.

oldtisme 08-24-2015 09:22 PM

This very thing happened to me while looking for my study Bible, after months of searching I bought a $80 bible and of course a week later I found my Bible!

linmid 08-25-2015 04:52 AM

zozee your story sounds like the one that friends of ours experienced. They looked all over the house and could not find the remote until the wife went to put a load of clothes in the dryer and there it was smiling up at her. LOL Isn't life grand in out golden years?

quiltinghere 08-29-2015 04:14 AM

Some of your posts are soooo funny - finding IT in a chip bag or in a dryer and of course, the last place you look.

How about finding it after you say 'I give up'?
I was looking for 'a thing' for over 30 minutes in my sewing area (which is pretty well organized...if I have to say so myself)...but after 30 minutes (in the last place I could look for the third time) I said out loud "I give up" and I instantly looked directly at a piece of it sticking out under a book. I couldn't believe it and immediately said out loud "Thank You".
Have a great quilty day....and happy hunting for something you've misplaced!
Nan

Ariannaquilts 08-29-2015 04:49 AM

Well I am sure glad you found your's I on the other hand have been looking for my Pintuck bag pattern for a year still can't find it! As a matter of fact it has probably been longer than that because I started looking for it once someone posted a tutorial on here so do I get a new one or just give up?

Hahaha! My grandpa used to say that! Along with such gems as, "Keep a spare set of keys in your glove compartment to use if you lock your keys in your car." Um, ok?? And he never wanted to turn into a driveway. "Who wants to be a driveway?"

A very corny guy, but sooooo loved! Thank you for bringing him to mind.
