You said the quilts will be 7 inches bigger than the mat at 24". I would think the quilts should be about 45 to 48" wide to cover round people when laying down. The length sounds about correct. Have lots of fun with this project.

Great fabric and the quilt will look great. As for fitted sheets, I made fitted crib sheets for my granddaughter and they are much easier to make than I thought. The tricky part is getting the elastic sewn onto the corners but very doable. Here is a link that may be helpful. I didn't make a hem as such, I just serged the edges and attached the elastic. These were crib sheets and the edges where tucked under the mattress not to be seen......my daughter loved them and the ones that went to day care for the nap mats were a big hit with the teachers there.

Queen RV mattresses often are 6” shorter. This method would be most helpful. I’ve taken a Queen fitted sheet and sewed a 3” tuck across from side to side, pretty much in the center of the sheet. Then I cut the excess off but leave enough to make a flat fell (or French seam) seam to encase the raw edges.

When we had our RV, my mother made a fitted sheet for the mattress over the cab (a real pain to make the bed) and she attached the top sheet to the bottom when she sewed to corners at the foot. The result was you only had to get that corner on the mattress (only one time having to crawl into the corner) and both sheets were on at the same time. Made removal a lot easier too.

I'm just updating my status on this quilt.
I've made several stabs at calculating block sizes and got some blocks and sashing pieces cut. I always fall in love with panels, but trying to cut them to a usable size and square is tedious at best. After some frustrating attempts at sewing sashing to the blocks (my machine wasn't sewing properly and will go to the shop), I ended up frogging and deciding to cut the blocks just a tad smaller. I'm determined, though, and will persevere. |
