Shadow quilt has my vote. Is there a pattern to buy? I would like to get it.

For some unknown reason I cannot edit my previous post but here is another discussion about the shadowbox pattern

Hope this helps :0)

I love the way you showed us your fabrics! Wonky sets each square off perfectly. Also, I know black is "in" but I think you should experiment with different colors with less kick in them (like the one you used in your picture). That will show off the beautiful fabrics more.

Shadow Squares is a great pattern but do look at the QB. It's a perfect showcase for your lovely, lovely batiks.

Don't you love the contemporary designers?

Shrink42020 07-28-2012 01:11 PM

Oh my . . .I too think this is visually awesome! Does anyone have this pattern or is it copyrighted?

huntersgrammie 07-28-2012 01:36 PM

I found some instructions for shadow box quilts on eHow. I didn't spend much time looking at it but it appears the basics are there.

The Mexican Star pattern looks great on a black background :O)

GailG 07-28-2012 03:42 PM

Your squares are gorgeous. I also think hobo2000's shadow pattern would be perfect. Also like Tashana's quilt. Love the colors.

Donna in Mo 07-28-2012 04:39 PM

Oh that if beautiful fabric! I like the shadow quilt. It is not as boring as just squares with sashing.

AlaskaAlice 07-28-2012 05:02 PM

Beautiful!! Shadow squares have my vote..
I love seeing the suggestions made and just this week tried the Hidden well block.. I love it.. As soon as I figure out how to I will show some of my projects.

blueheavenfla 07-28-2012 10:11 PM

I found this http://www.daystyledesigns.com/austr...adowsquilt.htm A pattern by Leah Day that looks very similar to the quilt that we all admire. It is a bit more expensive but comes with video of Leah FMQing the various areas according to the ad.

lswan 07-29-2012 03:25 AM

As much as shadow squares shows off the batiks, I am still looking for a quilt that involves the whole, with some movement. I did find, at someone's suggestion- going to Modabakeshop.com, this quilt. What do you think? http://www.modabakeshop.com/2012/04/...arm-quilt.html It would lop off some of the fabric of the square. I would make the squares 6" instead of the 5" charms. Is is too hard do you think? Thanks for the discussion,
Linda

This would be a great quilt for my bold batiks! I could use all the solid colors found in the batiks for the little squares. Where can I get this pattern? It looks dynamite.

Farm Quilter 07-31-2012 01:20 AM

For my solid colors I used the jewel tones of the Michael Miller Fairy Frosts with solid black as my neutral. Sure hope you can find the pattern - sorry I don't have it!

I'm a newbie and have to have a pattern in print to be able to do this. Does anyone know where I could buy one? Mountain Creek and other places had rectangle squares and one had small rectangle and squares. I would love to make one just like this. TIA

I did find it, courtesy of another member answering an ISO- it is Atkinson designs Slideshow. I ordered it from Amazon. Thanks, I will look for the Michael Miller fabric.

I put a photo of the Filmstrip quilt up with an ISO in another section of Quilting Board, and soon, another member found it for me! You might try that.
Linda

gigi712 08-01-2012 04:36 AM

Iswan, I tried posting in the ISO portion of the board, but it's not taking. Ugh! I want to make a filmstrip quilt, too, so tks for the heads up. I'm in desperate need to make Hobo's shadow box quilt. Grrrrrr!

gigi712 08-01-2012 05:05 AM

Oops! I not only posted about it on the ISO section, but I posted TWICE. lol.

nwm50 08-01-2012 07:38 AM

wow...everyone has great idea but i was just curious of how much work u want to put into it as I thought of the small drunkard path pattern which would be awesome using the batik fabrics. Sorry I have no pic of it but I do have the go die for cutting out the larger pattern but an friend has the smaller die.Anyhow i thought this would be off the grid in a way? I sure would like to have that "shadow box" dimensions too.

nwm50 08-01-2012 07:46 AM

Wow....great ideas here ! I was just curious of how much work u wanted to put into this but I thought of "drunkard path" which would really showcase those gorgeous batik that u have. I dont have any pic of one but i do have the Go Die of the larger size & I havent tried it out yet, but the "Shadow Square" and the one from farmquilter sounds as if they have what u had in mind. regardless..show us yours when done please! Boy, i would LOVE to have that pattern of the Shadow Square to make an deer, bird, bear quilt for hubby.

nwm50 08-01-2012 07:47 AM

oooops...sorry i didnt know i posted twice!! didnt realize the 1st took....

Farm Quilter 08-01-2012 08:37 AM

WOOOHOOOO found it!!!!! Of course, if I could have the name right it would have been easier!!! It's called Slide Show at http://store.atkinsondesigns.com/sto...3&Item_ID=1023

Looks like a Film Strip to me, guess that's why the name stuck. But Slide Show is it's proper name!!

I'm late to the game, but something like this would showcase the fabrics, while having a slightly more interesting pattern than just blocks with sashing. You could use black for the diamonds between the squares. The fabrics are so beautiful that it will look great either way, though!

Directions available here. I just made a quilt of these snowball blocks, and it was SO easy. http://lellaboutique.blogspot.com/20...26297717512045

I think this would be great for a kids quilt that I have some unique fabric for, but no real relation to each other (pop culture stuff). The black would make it work for a boy. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yes, please! Red oriental quilt directions would be appreciated very much, as it is truly lovely!

I'm trying to create my own, I just used a layer cake of 10" blocks...added off white 2 1/2" squares in opposite corners with black strips to complete the right side and bottom, then added 2 1/2" sashing and will put sashing between the rows, will post a pic when I'm finished (maybe tomorrow). I used really bright color, so hope it looks good.

not too bad for this old newbie, been quilting less than a year, and I'm having sew much fun! I have 5 more to go for the adult grandkids. All are bright except for one that's a Marblehead in browna and grays.
