Here's a couple of pics of my rugs; must get more made! I am going to attach a PDF with simple instructions (I hope this works!)
The long narrow rug fits next to the wall below the coat hooks in my mud room. Perfect muddy boots to sit on.
The square one is just one of many used all the time. It needs washing

Curious, how many jeans pockets have you removed? Those suckers are sewn to STAY!

I use a razor blade to cut the stitching on the top corners of the pockets. The rest of the pocket just pulls off once you have the corners free.[/quote]

I'll have to remember that. I just tried the seam ripper. Took a lot of work!

Deborah12687 03-16-2011 06:01 AM

I have taken the pockets and sewed them into coin purses. They sell well at shows and flea markets.

melodyr 03-16-2011 07:31 AM

Yes, I use the denim damp for the overdye. I take it from the soda ash soak and wring it out good. If you are uncomfortable using fruit jars, use old mayo or peanut butter jars, they are plastic and you can't 'over-cram' them enough to break. The dye spreads better on damp fabric, but if you want an more angular 'broken glass' looking pattern, use it after it has dried.

How great are these?! I love these rugs....Thanks so much for sharing.

Found a cute pattern for slippers:

At the bottom of the page there's a link to her blog:

What unusual and cool ideas she has! I love the little Sweet Pea jacket.

Your welcome!

Really like the idea of placemats and bandana napkins. That idea is going on my to-do list. Thanks.

I also did a faux cathedral windows from the equilter.com link posted previously. I made it from hubby's old jeans and work shirts. I also put scraps of batting in mine to make it heavier. He likes to feel the weight of a quilt on his legs.

I'm planning to make more for the grandkids to use as floor mats/nap mats. I'm going to zig zag the arcs down on the front of them and use flannel for the "windows". I probably won't put batting in them. I'm also going to whip out a raggy shaggy one with pink flannel alternated front & back for a great niece due in July. Her parents could wreck a crow bar in a sandbox so she will need something sturdier (and less of my hard work) than I normally give for baby quilts.

Beverly in Missouri... I love your quilt! Did you zig-zag the edges down? I looked up a tutorial on making this quilt and those are the instructions... but I'm wondering if you could simply sew a straight stitch about 3/8" (or more?) from the edge of each circle and let it fray as it's washed? A raw-edge applique' technique, sort of...
What do you think quilting friends??

I think so, too. If you have a straight stretch stitch (one that goes 2 st forward and 1 st back) this would be a stronger seam on the denim and fraying would stop at a very hard sewn edge. I use it when I sew denim squares together.

No, I did not zig zag the edges. I expect it to fray and since it was for my husband, it won't get dragged around very much or washed very often. I plan to make another one for a baby and I will zig zag it down.

These are easy-peasy and absolutely no hand work like a real CW quilt. There is a tute on this board for another style where you sew 2 circles right sides together and cut a slit in the "window pane" one to turn them right side out and tuck batting inside if wanted. Then you just sew all the circles together and tack down the pre-finished edges. Only the denim is cut in circles on a raggy version. The window pane is a square with a slightly smaller square of scrap batting under it.

And I'm planning on using my "easy circle cut" (rotary cutter guide) to make it even "easier-peasier" (sure hope you're right on that part!! :-D :-D

Mhuskins1, how did you put your quilt together? It looks fuzzy. I like the texture of it. Thank you for sharing. :-D

Love the bag. It's really cute.

Oksewglad... the placemats are great!! love them!!! What width did you use for your logs? What did you back them with? and did you sew a seam around the edge, leaving a raw edge to let it fray like that? (Sorry for so many questions, but I'm not that experienced yet...)
thank you for sharing these!!

Thank you! The logs are 2" cut. I just sewed around the cat motif for 3 LC rounds. Then made a heart template for the shape using the LC as reference to length and width. I cut 2 hearts out of denim and 1 of the log cabin block. Next layered the three pieces of denim --made sure the bottom piece was right side out. Then sewed around the perimeter of the heart 1/2" away using the straight stretch stitch on my machine. This stitch is the one that goes 2 forward and 1 back. Just makes a stronger seam. Then snipped the raw edge every inch or so to help the ragging. You could use batting in the middle, but then cut it smaller so it doesn't show along the outer raw edge. I did not quilt these either. If you use batting you may want to quilt it enough to hold the batting in place.

Thank you thank you!! I have soooo much denim to use up and I plan on making some of these... This has been very helpful... we "newbies" love all the advice and instruction from the experts... I certainly do!!

I have also cut the heart shape 3 x for a place mat. Then machine apliqued a design to the front; sandwiched the three layers and finshed as above. Another option is to make the top layer a crazy patch heart of regular fabric.
