I have to do a class for my OHCE group on recycled denim.
While I use denim all the time for repurposed items, I was wondering, what is YOUR favorite thing to use old jeans, jumpers and skirts to make? I love shopping bags! and rugs! |

Dog beds
They last a good long time, the only down side is that they can't fluff them up and curl up in them. |

Is this sandwiched? if so with what? Or is it only the denim patches?
It looks great![/quote] It is sandwiched and tied. |
What about some placemats... you could use bandanas for napkins? I haven't made these, but it could be cute?
And I love reading these ideas... I have a lot of old denim clothing that I've been saving to do a rag quilt... but I have more than enough for a quilt... Love all the displays so far, too!! |

I have done a lot of the bags. Especially like to find colored denim for them. Have a large one I made from some big man jeans. It's great to haul things to classes.

I make rugs, I was getting the strips sewn on Sunday afternoon.
|
Placemats are great out of the backs of jeans. Need 34 on waist or biger. Leave the waist band on, you put your napkin there . Do a. Slow curve cut from one side to other. Bind with same fabric as napkin. You can take the pockets off and do an applique or embrodreyM, then put pockets back on to hold silverware. You don't need to back but can if you want. I made a set of 4 for a bridle shower over 20 years ago for a cousin. Put their initicals on the pockets. They still have and use them today. Great for picnics and such or on the table.

My SIL is 6'8" and his jeans are perfect. I like tall men, what can I say! My hubby is 6'2", and a couple sons who are tall, so they keep me busy. Socks, my hubby uses a wool blend, I cut them up into loops, and loop them together. The two rugs in my kitchen are 10 yrs of socks.... I think they cost me a lot of money but we are getting our money's worth. |
Great projects, and you're very creative!

Yes, I have a loom with warp on it, the rugs are around 30" wide, I can make them wider and I may on these. I don't weave for others anymore. I have several rugs on hand, I just can't stop saving jeans!

Denim D9P quilt. Still waiting for me to put backing on it.
|
Now that is a bluejean quilt! Wow, how neat!
|
I use the pockets to make pot holders. They turn out really nice. The front pocket can make an oven mit,the back pocket makes a really cute slip on your hand pot holder. Of course, they need to be lined and properly prepared for heat.
|
oh I love the raggy quilt!!

Everyone is so creative.
I'm looking forward to my son wearing out some of his jeans to make some of these projects. |
Wow, I'm impressed! Love the quilt. I'm also from Kansas, Northeast corner, Oskaloosa. What part are you from?
|
I have seen a picture of bibs made with the denim.
I want to make a tool caddy to hang on the wall and put often used tools in. |

WOW! Who would have thought an old pair of jeans could turn into all this neat stuff. I'm going to be cutting up old jeans in the future.
