Red or green border?

This top is 45x45 so far. I want to add a skinny white border, then a wide border. I had planned on using the dark green, but I am short fabric, and have been unable to locate it online. What do you think about the red? I have never done a quilt with a lot of red.....kinda out of my comfort zone!

I really like the red!

Annie68 09-06-2017 07:41 AM

The red is the perfect match, of course I can't get enough red in a quilt, I love red. Anyway your quilt is lovely!

midwife 09-06-2017 07:43 AM

The red looks great. That is an impressive quilt.

pchp 09-06-2017 08:02 AM

The red really complements the red in the blocks. I agree that is best.

bearisgray 09-06-2017 08:22 AM

I like the red. Do you have enough of the really dark fabric to also make a skinny border next to the red one?

Tartan 09-06-2017 08:24 AM

Pretty top! I like the green better. The green makes it look fresh and modern, the red makes it look more Christmasy to me.

QuiltnNan 09-06-2017 08:37 AM

i agree on the red. but you could do a red first and then an outside green

tallchick 09-06-2017 08:48 AM

Wowza!! A stunning quilt and I think the red is spot on for this beauty!! Can't wait to see it all finished !

LindaNan 09-06-2017 08:55 AM

Funny, I was thinking just the opposite -- narrow green border then red.

Boston1954 09-06-2017 09:19 AM

If you are looking for bright, go with red. I like the quiet green.

catsden 09-06-2017 10:38 AM

I think the red would look great.

SusieQOH 09-06-2017 10:42 AM

Wow, that's a gorgeous top!!! I'm no help b/c I like both but if I have to choose one it would be green.

nativetexan 09-06-2017 10:45 AM

oh the red. i didn't even see the green until i went back to find it. Red!!

jillmc 09-06-2017 10:48 AM

Haha....you guys are fun! I lean towards the safe green, but since i cannot find anymore online, I think i will use the red (yes, i have to order that one, too, but at least it seems to be readily available!)....i will either sell this or donate it to a local auction that raises money to purchase Christmas gifts for kids in need in our community, and maybe red would appeal to more people.......as always, thank you for your input!

Are the circles appliqued? I really like that pattern.

Yes, the circles are appliqued. There were a few errors in the instructions, and I may have misssd this point, but I think the circles should have been 1/4" larger...too late now! ;)

SusieQOH 09-06-2017 10:59 AM

They look great !!!

dunster 09-06-2017 11:16 AM

What an absolutely beautiful quilt. I like the design, and your fabrics are perfect. I think the red will be a beautiful border.

margied 09-06-2017 01:31 PM

both look good but I like the red best

zozee 09-06-2017 01:40 PM

Red, no debate in my mind! Gorgeous quilt!

NatalieF 09-06-2017 01:48 PM

They are both gorgeous. I don't think you can go wrong either way. That said, I think my personal preference is the green.

jokir44 09-06-2017 03:01 PM

I actual prefer the green but I think the red would balance your colors better. Is it possible you could do the dark green around the corners and red for the rest?

redquilter 09-06-2017 04:53 PM

Gorgeous! I love the red. I think it really makes the whole thing pop.

Jingle 09-06-2017 05:06 PM

Beautiful quilt and I like the red just fine.

quiltingshorttimer 09-06-2017 05:12 PM

what a pretty quilt! How about the thin white border, then a flange of the green and then the red border? Its' very pretty however you finish it.

That's what I was thinking, too!.

quiltlady1941 09-06-2017 09:06 PM

The red is great!

Reba'squilts 09-07-2017 02:18 AM

Red for sure.

twinkie 09-07-2017 02:47 AM

Nice looking pattern.

Gerbie 09-07-2017 02:54 AM

Do you have enough of the dark green to make a flange in your border? That would make it stand out I think with either the red or the white. Since you have red and green, perhaps a green flange next to the red, if you need to piece it, the seams won't show up much in a flange. I have used a flange in several of my quilts lately. I really like the look that it gives a quilt.
Oops! sorry I didn't see your post quiltingshorttimer.

Battle Axe 09-07-2017 03:15 AM

Gotta have red. It livens it up, the green puts out the fire.

Just my opinion. Marcia

sewvicki 09-07-2017 04:00 AM

Red, red, red !!!

Karamarie 09-07-2017 04:17 AM

I also would go with a thin red and then a wider green. Nice quilt.

red-warrior 09-07-2017 04:50 AM

I would like red on your beautiful quilt!

KnitnutBZ 09-07-2017 05:23 AM

Looks great either way. How about a narrow green border before the red or maybe bind it in the green.

trolleystation 09-07-2017 05:30 AM

Wonderful quilt

pattipat 09-07-2017 05:40 AM

Beautiful quilt. I like the red. It makes it look cheerful.

Rose_P 09-07-2017 08:08 AM

Love the top! Both a narrow dark green inner border, then the red.

Hi Jillmc. I would make the small inner border about 1.5" wide finished and use one of the greens (light or dark). If you still don't have enough for that I would use the dark red (in the rectangle). I would use the white fabric to make the larger outer border. If you put the bright red as the outter border it will detract from the piecing of the blocks, which look great. I hope you repost when you have finished this quilt. It screams for custom quilting also.... :-)
