Red Snapper quilt loading system, what you think
 

Im wondering if any one has used or do use the Red Snapper Quilt Loading System? If you do or have what do you think about It? Wondering if it would be worth getting a set . Thanks scrappy happy

I use it and think it's great. Previously I tried pins (didn't like getting stuck) and leader helpers with Velcro (didn't like sewing the leaders onto the back). I also bought some of the Mondo clips before the Snappers came out, and they were too tight to apply. I also use the side tensioning system from Renae Haddadin - Red-E-Edge - and it is also great.

I use Leader Grip - they are wonderful - saves so much time and getting poked with the pins....

My DH tried several methods and finally settled one the red snapper system. Beware there is a learning curve, at least for him. at least in comparison to the pins! what am I going to do with all those long pins and T pins?

We use the Red Snappers where I do longarming...they are great...no more PINS!! You will love them...the only thing we have found is when you are doing a king, they tend to bow some in the middle...but once the quilt is done....we do not find any discrepancies in the quilting...

Yep yep yep, got them, love them! Also have the Red-E-Edge. Before I got these, I had tried pins and velcro and another channel system. Nothing as easy and painless as the Red Snappers :)

I agree!! Use them both.
I tried to go the cheap way with plastic tubing and the light strips. Wasn't that much cheaper, and didn't work as well. Broke down and got the Red Snappers and the Red E Edge. Wonderful -- and no more bleeding. :-P

the unquilted part depends on how much fabric you have extra on top and bottom. I don't like to put my top too close to the edge so I have a some wiggle room.. I love Red Snappers...they were one of my AhAH moments in long arming. I would purchase them again in a heartbeat.

None of the edge of the quilt is left unquilted, at least not the way I do it.

I sew a straight line all across the top, through the back and batting. Then I pin the top of the quilt lined up with that line of thread, and then stabilize it by quilting a little less than 1/4" in from the edge of the top. I usually float the rest of the quilt top, but sometimes I do roll the bottom of the quilt top using the red snappers. When I do that, I take the snappers off when I get close to the bottom of the quilt top so I can quilt to the edge.

LOVE my Red Snappers!!!!! After taking almost an hour pinning my first quilt on the frame and bleeding from the pin sticks, I thought I had made the most expensive mistake of my life. I can get a quilt loaded in about 15 minutes and off the frame in less than 10 minutes.

I have tried just about everything, and now I use the red snappers. It is time saving, however they are pretty tight fitting at first, but they seem to be loosening up, or maybe I am getting use to putting them on. You do have to be careful they don't catch on the platform and throw your stitch off, and it is hard to get real close to the edge of the quilt when you are finishing up, but the speed of loading the quilt out weighs those two complaints.

Love my Red Snappers but there is a little bit of a learning curve. Can load a large king size in 15 mins. and no pin sticks. Yeah!!!!

Red Snappers, Leadergrips, and Mondo clips all work on the same basic principle. I've heard the same comment about all of them being kind of tight at first.

I bought a set of Red Snappers for half price from someone who decided she'd rather use zippers. A year later I bought another used set and sent it to my friend in Michigan.

Do some research into what product you think you'd like best, then look around in your local quilting community, you might find someone who's selling theirs cheap (and already broken in!). :D

I only mount the backing.Then float the top.I make sure I have extra backing.To float the top,baste the batt on to the backing.Use channel locks to get a very straight line.Then lay the top along the straight line and baste down.I usually have to pin every few inches to get it straight.Take a large square and make sure the corners are square,pin a little and baste down.I have a pink centering tape that keeps the sides square and baste them down as I advance the quilt.My quilts are always square when I take them off the frame.And also it is veasy peesy for my customers to apply binding when the quilt is basted all the way around.

I love the red snappers. That being said, It does require an extra inch or so of backing fabric as the dowel type insert int the hem of leaders takes a little more space. I absolutely can load a quil in under ten minutes. I also use the side leaders and find that I like them best when I add a piece of fabric to the sides and pin flat so it slides over my ruler base without catching. Just how it works for me. I refused to pay the money for their system. I made a very serviceable set by using LED track from the hardware store and tubing from plumbing supply. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I have a set & wouldn't change back to pinning for any amount of money! I love them!

I have them but cannot use them. I can't exert the pressure they need to be put on. If anyone would like to buy them, they're available!

One of my quilting friends who has used them recommended that I get a set & I did & I love them. It is so much easier to load & unload a quilt on my longarm that I rarely use pins anymore. I would highly recommend getting a set. MaryC

I use the Red Snapper quilt loading system. I am able to use it even though I broke my back and then had a spine fussion. I can get my quits lined up straight by drawing lines on the backing and then lining that line up with the Red Snappers.:o

I'm brand new to quilting on a rack. I had taken one short training and rented time on a long arm at my LQS a few years ago, and the pinning process was not enjoyable for me. Not to mention the fact that I kept getting poked, and my clothes were catching on all of the pins too. So I asked for advice here and the Red Snappers were recommended. I did end up purchasing them, and I *reallyreallyreally* love them! It's so easy to snap a quilt on and off, takes hardly any time at all. They are a slight bit stiff but even after only a few uses, they've become much more manageable. I do not have strong hands, and I've not needed my husband's help at all to get them on. Pulling off is really easy.

As far as the unquilted part, you can kind of manage it. I've only done practice pieces so far (since I'm brand new to my system) but I've been floating the top so I can decide what I want to do with it. I do add a few pins there to keep things taught until I baste. Not sure if that's the right procedure or not (brand new!!) but it works for me.

I have them on my system but find for me they get in the way when I'm working close to the edge of the border. So I'm back to pinning at least at the top of my quilts but still use the snappers for the bottom.

My 'parts' came from Home Depot and work just fine, does everything the snappers can but saved a lot of money.

I have them and love them too. So quick to load and even quicker to unload.

I also have the Red Snappers and the edge and Love them. I hated the pins. I hadn't tried the other system with velcro.

I bought the mondo clips from Amazon instead. There are ten 44" tubes/clamps, which means I had plenty to allow me to have different lengths for different sizes of quilts. The first two times I loaded a quilt, the clamps were a little stiff/tight. But after that, they clipped right on, quick as a flash. And unloading the quilt takes about 10 seconds for the top and 10 seconds for the bottom. Less expensive than the Red Snappers. I love them!!

I see so many responses, like 36 pages. I don't know if you will read them all but I'll add my thoughts. I LOVE THEM. I don't like pinning and this is just so much quicker. Well sometimes. I do at times have trouble getting the backing straight, but it sure beats pins. Hope this helps you.
