My home is pet free, because I sell on e-bay.

#1piecemaker 12-28-2010 05:20 AM

Ohhhh, no!!!! My DH bugs me enough without having anythingelse around. I love animals but I don't want any messing with my stuff.

Bottle Blonde 12-28-2010 05:27 AM

4 dogs and 2 cats live with me. The 2 cats are only interested in the finished quilt - to snuggle under. 1 dog barks at the machine when I am sewing - I guess he gets as excited as I do about quilting --- 1 dog lays on my feet and the foot pedal to make me sew faster (and he keeps my feet warm) - 1 dog is a puppy, so he snatches anything he can get so that I chase him around the room to get my cardio workout for the day! The oldest dog keeps the other 3 in line when I am too busy to watch them myself. I always make quilts for the pets from the odd blocks, UFOs and ugly fabric that I have and they love them! They are very "quilt gift" worthy. Purrs and kisses everyday for the quilts I give them.

CarrieAnne 12-28-2010 05:35 AM

LOL, mine arent really allowed in my sewing room, only because the bulldog has a serious chewing problem, and I am afraid for her life with all the cords around...and the cats wouldnt leave me alone, lol! I have a baby gate on the door now, and they sleep in the hall and watch me!

No, they aren't required but they are great to complain to. And they are always highly impressed with anything I make. Although my guys remind me often that I am spending too much time sewing and too little time with them.

Indeed...because they are also festive, hardworking and make great navigators!

We're thrilled to be dressed up!

Cats and dogs are a MUST - they spread love all over you like a warm quilt.

Fabaddict 12-28-2010 06:08 AM

ROFLOL - not required but they really do help.

QuiltingrandmafromMi 12-28-2010 06:14 AM

Probably not, but my cat usually does the warmness test, before I finish. If she lays on it, I know it's a go! She's my silent companion when I quilt!

Yes. Contact your local rescue groups and ask to become a foster home. You will be granted 'Angel' status and receive all the love you could ask for. When the right one comes along, fosters get 'first dibs' on adopting.

quiltincharlotte 12-28-2010 06:26 AM

ha ha ha ha!!! That was sooo funny!!! I don't have a cat or dog either . . . hmmmm, is THAT my problem!!

ktmo815 12-28-2010 06:29 AM

4 cats & 1 dog here - Yep I need them!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Not in MY house..........and I quilt just fine :) Fish in a fish tank is about as far as I'll go!! Little food, little cleanup, no vet bills; they just die and you throw them down the toilet! PERFECT!! And I'm still a loving person toward pets and would never be cruel to them as God's creatures; I just don't want them in my house!

KarenR 12-28-2010 06:56 AM

Not required. I can't imagine what it would be like not to have both cats and dogs in our families life.

quilt3311 12-28-2010 07:03 AM

Not unless you want one!! They are lots of company though. When sewing mine comes and sits on the ironing board and watches whatever I am doing. I have a small quilted pad that I put on the end of the board and thats where she "inspects" whatever I am doing.

kateyb 12-28-2010 07:05 AM

I like animals as long as I don't have to live with them. Right now I travel to much to be able to take care of them well.

quiltaroni 12-28-2010 07:07 AM

If you look closely youll see they do their best to help us quilt in their own unique way.

We have a herd of milk goats, a cat in the office with DH and two parakeets at the house. DS has a spider but I am ignoring that one. My children are the quilt inspectors and keep me company when I quilt.

SC 12-28-2010 08:07 AM

No, not a requirement. But they definitely help!

And I have 5 cats and 1 dog and have to say the same!

rebeccalr 12-28-2010 08:20 AM

I don't think you have to have the pets, although they are great. I think with your sense of humor you will fit right in!!

Deborah12687 12-28-2010 08:53 AM

My Cat Misty is my buddy and she keeps me company during the day while my hubby is at work. She is a very socialable cat and very laid back and there is a bond between us as she chose us when we went looking for cat.

acjacques 12-28-2010 09:12 AM

Have pets only if you love to have them. If you are meticulous about having a clean and fur-free environment, then train the pets to not go in your sewing space (close your door, in other words). My cats keep me company in my sewing room and sometimes snooze right by the sewing machine. They actually claim the room as their sun room when I am not sewing.

Haven't you heard? "No quilt is complete without a few pet hairs." Just kidding, of course. You can be a perfectly accomplished quilter without them, and I suspect that a judge in a show might not look kindly on a quilt "decorated" with pet hair.

I refer to my pets as the "supervisors." The cats especially love to park themselves right in the middle of whatever I am trying to do. However, I will probably never enter a quilt in a show.

catrancher 12-28-2010 10:19 AM

Not to be successful, only to be happy while doing it.

JS 12-28-2010 10:48 AM

Love this answer !!!!!!!!!!!

AnnieH 12-28-2010 11:11 AM

You mean you haven't got one yet? I'm shocked.
Your post made me chuckle loads.
One dog and two cats here.

If you truly want everything you do to be appreciated, you will.

sewwhat85 12-28-2010 02:30 PM

seems like you must have one but i dont

Lucymae 12-28-2010 03:14 PM

My cat always seems to know which project I will be working on and sleeps on it. Hair we go. She is good company.

Taughtby Grandma 12-28-2010 03:23 PM

I have a dog, but my personal quilt inspector is my 2 yr old granddaughter. It doesn't matter who's quilt it is, when I show it to anyone, she gets in the center of it, curls up in it a claims it for her own.

PATTIESPEARL 12-28-2010 03:43 PM

NO, BUT IT HELPS. THEY LIKE EVERYTHING YOU DO!

chris_quilts 12-28-2010 03:45 PM

Absolutely. I currently have 2 quilt inspectors who work very hard at being constructive with their criticism. Ever since I started quilting, I've had kitty quilt inspectors and they will listen to you obsess over whatever your latest obsession is and their eyes don't glaze over. They may however fall asleep on the latest project. I always tell recipients to expect cat hair as part of their gift but do use a good lint roller over projects before giving them to the recipients.

JUNEC 12-28-2010 04:01 PM

Home with 2 greyhounds - that love laying on my quilts - My girls love quilting with me.

daria 12-28-2010 04:25 PM

No, but your life would be so much fuller with that unconditional love of a dog or the approval of a cat curling up in your project! LOL

quiltsbykandy 12-28-2010 04:32 PM

My cats, Chumlee and Kit-kit will not let one quilt leave my house until it has been fully inspected and given the paw of approval.

cherrio 12-28-2010 04:33 PM

ditto! I have 2 yorkies 1 maltese and one chubby lil black maltese/mix and 2 cats and 2 snakes who all are pretty good listeners

Jamiestitcher62 12-28-2010 04:40 PM

Schmoo sits on my cutting board while I am sewing. Of course when I need to read a pattern, she gets to it first and assists me in translation. I couldn't sew without her constant companionship.
