Most washers have the soak cycle so that works great to get all the glue to wash away. If the washer doesn't, fill it and then turn off and let it soak as long as you like. Turn it back on and finish the cycle. All the Elmers will disappear.

I would say if possible with your colors, warm the water a bit. I think warm would help dissolve the glue better than cold. I basted my last 2 quilts (done alike for mom and MIL) with diluted Elmers and washed them in warm (with off-brand color catchers) and all the glue seemed to come out fine. Good luck and let us know!

OP, I think you said you have a front loader washing machine. This is one of the disadvantages of front loading machines, it is hard to get a really good soak cycle from them.

Elmer's Glue

I use a diluted Elmer's Washable Glue also. I found some tips (online at Purple something) that give you a smaller stream, or you can cut the tip to adjust the flow. Another thing I found that is helpful for those "spots" is a foam paint brush. Works great.
