How many people here would be interested in going to a retreat?

I found a place near Kansas City that could accomodate a pretty good size group. I would have to check into cost of course but from their web site I think it would run around $90. or less per person, per night.

isnthatodd 01-17-2010 01:25 PM

when?

Scissor Queen 01-17-2010 01:53 PM

I think those interested would have to have the discussion of when. October in Kansas tends to be really nice weather though.

zkosh 01-17-2010 02:09 PM

I'm interested if I can afford it then and can get the days off.

Quilter7x 01-17-2010 02:22 PM

I would love to go. Not sure it would be feasible though, as I would have to pay airfare and probably wouldn't be able to bring my machine. I hope a bunch of you can get together and do a retreat; they are so much fun!

Barb_MO 01-17-2010 02:38 PM

I would go if the date corresponds to my time off.

Oklahoma Suzie 01-17-2010 02:43 PM

I may be able to go, depends on when it is.

ljsunflower 01-17-2010 02:50 PM

I'm interested. Give us a when & how much. My truck will make that trip for sure!

Scissor Queen 01-17-2010 02:52 PM

October is 10 months away which should be plenty of time to plan time off and save money to pay for it. Before it could happen there would have to be definite commitments. I'm sure deposits would have to be made to hold whatever weekend was chosen.

ljsunflower 01-17-2010 03:01 PM

October is a perfect time of the year for a retreat!
But since it IS 10 months away, lots of things can change in our lives. Ya know?
Are you gonna organize this? If so, just keep us informed on the things we need to know. Timing & price are probably the most important items.
This is exciting!!

Quilter7x 01-17-2010 03:12 PM

Are all of you replying going to be able to drive to Kansas City? Just curious if anyone would have to fly in.

ljsunflower 01-17-2010 03:16 PM

I'm driving. It's about 10 to 12 hours for me. No way I'd fly! Not after the terrorist thing in Dec, plus the stuff you have to go through at the airport.
anyone on my way from south MS? I could pick you up if you'd like.

krazy4quilts 01-17-2010 03:46 PM

Im not far from KC, I would love to go.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-17-2010 03:49 PM

I could make it to KC in about 5 hours.

krazy4quilts 01-17-2010 03:53 PM

yep I am 5 1/2 hrs for KC.

Marcia 01-17-2010 04:47 PM

Sounds like a lot of fun--but I am going to the Houston quilt show in November and a girl has to draw a line on quilting fun somewhere. Doesn't she???

sandpat 01-17-2010 04:55 PM

Umm, Marcia....the answer would be NO....a resounding NO!! I just wish I could, but I can't leave the DH

sewjoyce 01-17-2010 05:26 PM

Sounds like so much fun!! Have to think on it :D

samroberts01 01-17-2010 05:28 PM

I would love to go on a retreat sometime, but I think Kansas is a little to far for me, but if anyone else every does one someplace closer I would love to go!

Scissor Queen 01-17-2010 05:30 PM

The things I get myself into! I can check out prices and a good time to have a retreat.

gramqlts 01-17-2010 09:06 PM

Our quilt guild holds a retreat twice a year at local church camp that has a big lodge with rooms on each end of it and also cabins within walking distance. Huge room with tables for sewing and large kitchen for cooking and preparing meals. We go for 3 days in spring and again in fall. We all chip in and help with meals. There is usually 30-40 of us that go each time and we only have to help prepare and bring food for one meal in that 3 day period. It is very modern place and only costs us about $45 for the whole 3 days. Ours is owned and operated by the Methodist Ministry. Check some local church camps out and you can probably find a place cheaper. As I go already instate 3 times a year can't get off work for much else except family trips. But sounds like fun.

I don't go to retreats to cook and wash dishes. Most of the church camps I have found don't hold that many.

The church camp I did find will sleep 175 and they'll feed you twice a day. Plus they have a massive room that can be used for a sewing room.

Maybe you can put together a retreat for members of this group in your area.

brushandthimble 01-18-2010 07:51 AM

I would love to go but.... to far to drive, no $ to fly.
I on located outside of Boston, anyone near here?

daisyboo9 01-18-2010 08:03 AM

I would be very interested. How far would I be if I live in southwestern Ontario, Canada?

Kaye-Kaye 01-18-2010 08:08 AM

I am just 2.5 hours from Kansas City. A retreat would be fun. Would we want to do a long weekend or what?

I like retreats that run from late Thursday afternoon until early Sunday afternoon. That gives you Thursday evening to get unpacked and set up and then you get to sew two full days before you have to pack up and leave.

I'm thinking there has been enough interest expressed already in this thread to go ahead and get prices.

ljsunflower 01-18-2010 10:04 AM

WOW! This sounds like a "GO" to me!
I'm with you scissor queen. I don't want to cook or even think about cooking while I'm on retreat. And Thursday afternoon/evening till Sunday afternoon is usually about all the time I can spend away from home. Get us some prices & see what time frame is open for this. Do you know if there's a minimum or maximum number of people for this facility?
thanks so much for thinking of this.

Barb_MO 01-18-2010 10:14 AM

Could someone who is not a member of the board be invited to attend...like my sister and her daughter?

I've never been to a quilt retreat, so, what are somethings that you do? is it all quilting or do you shop some too?

Scissor Queen 01-18-2010 11:10 AM

The more the merrier! I think there are some shops in the area for those that want to shop.

Dorothy of Kansas 01-18-2010 11:58 AM

I'm definitely interested. What part of Kansas would this be held in? I'm currently in Oklahoma and would be willing to pick up anyone along the way. I drive a mini van, so could haul the machines as well as fabric!! Keep me posted!

It's a little west of Kansas City, Ks.

I sent an email to the contact person and I'll let everybody know what I find out when she gets back to me.

chris_quilts 01-18-2010 01:19 PM

I'm in depending on dates. I live near the metro area. WOO HOO!!!

momto4 01-18-2010 01:24 PM

I would be interested, I would have to fly there of course, but even so it is so far away that I think we could swing it. Just need to know the details :) I think it would be really fun!!

Kyiav10 01-18-2010 01:36 PM

Would love to go to one in PA! Just can't go at this time.

Kyia

Are you anywhere near Lancaster, PA? I visit there sometimes.

martha jo 01-19-2010 05:40 AM

I would love to come. Will the roads be clear that time of year? I own some property (or rather my late husband did) and I have been needing to take legal papers and get it transferred to my name. Sounds like a good excuse. I would drive and bring machine. I'm handicapped and can't fly. Just too difficult nowdays. I am near Austin if someone wants to share.

SNUGQUILT 01-19-2010 07:39 AM

I may be interesed. I'm in Illinois, so I'm thinking it wouldn't be that far for me. I guess it just depends on cost, timing, etc. But I would surely be interested!

Scissor Queen 01-19-2010 07:45 AM

The lady got back to me and pretty much the only weekend left this fall is the 28th thru the 31st of October. The rates depend on double, triple or quad occupancy and whether you get there thursday or friday.

The highest rate is 243.60 for thursday arrival and a double room. The other two rates for thursday arrival are 219.60 and 213.60.

If the date and the rates are acceptable PM me to sign up.

Barb_MO 01-19-2010 08:03 AM

Sorry, I wouldn't be able to go at that time. Have to work.

Marlys 01-19-2010 09:04 AM

It would be an awesome trip. I think that flying would be hard because of taking your machine and supplies.
I would be coming from Eastern Montana. If there is interest from anyone in Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota or Nebraska I could plan a route one of those directions and pick up 3 people.
