Those are my room,I see very clean neat sewing rooms and I wonder what Im doing wrong.

rdorminy 03-03-2011 06:10 AM

I should not have looked at all this this morning. My sides are hurting now. I thought I was bad at keeping my quilting area neat but now I've changed my mind. You gal's are a "mess", smiling big time. Hugs to you all. True quilter's here. Keep up the good work.

catmcclure 03-03-2011 06:28 AM

Mine occasionally looks like it's been ransacked by invading Huns, but that's just me - I'm disorganized. My daughter, on the other hand, could invite Good Housekeeping in for a photo layout any time and have it look great. She's the most organized person with her things. I'm really intimidated by her habits. She obviously didn't learn it from me. Her father, on the other hand, was career military and he put metal hoops in his pants so they'd have a perfect blouse and crease over his combat boots.

threadsdmr 03-03-2011 06:30 AM

And I thought I had a lot of fabric. You guys have me beat. It would be fun to look through your fabric.

oldswimmer 03-03-2011 06:39 AM

Queen Deb,
I really like your zig-zag quilt! Is it from a pattern?
Would love to know what it is, and see a pic of it!

Love all the pics and thanks to everyone for posting them. I love looking at everyone's sewing area, things they have found at yard sales, thrift stores, etc.

19angel52 03-03-2011 07:02 AM

oh my .... if we spent HALF the time organizing our stuff, we would never get to sew.

Nope - not going to post my photo for all the tea in China...or all the FQs in the world.

I'll claim we just moved to a new place (which we did - 10 days ago) and I'm still organizing. I'm going to use that excuse until 2013.

nab 03-03-2011 07:16 AM

Right this minute mine fits right with yours. Looks like you are having fun.

yep, right after we all change our avatars, profiles, and go into hiding..hehehe

Jshep 03-03-2011 07:47 AM

The way I look at it is if the mess bothers you, you need to clean it up and get organized, but if it doesn't, let it alone. It's all about what you are comfortable with.

wolph33 03-03-2011 07:48 AM

all those rooms look like fun to me-creative clutter.

PoopayTwo 03-03-2011 07:54 AM

YOU have made me so happy! I no longer feel alone when
it comes to my sewing happy-mess. Thank you.

G'ma Kay 03-03-2011 07:58 AM

I think it looks great. I can see what you're working on. That's better than mine on any day.

I feel the need to share, mostly because if I get this out there I'll shame myself enough that I'll FINISH what I've started. As it is not, I can NOT do ANYTHING in my sewing room.
NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH, ZIP.

First - this is how my room looked about 3 years ago when I first set up my space in our new house. Nice, huh?

Now... THIS is my space NOW. A complete disaster as I am completely over-hauling my space. Granted it's a work in process, but I'm not getting it together as fast as I'd like.

Thank you so much! That really makes me feel wonderful :)

I decided last night to do a small border.... 1-I have enough stripes left to be able to do it and 2- it'll still fit in the backing I have picked out. I will post photos of it! I kind of created it from a tut I found on the web but with a much more scrappy look. It's a great use of Jelly rolls.

mtspools 03-03-2011 08:26 AM

Looked at all the pictures they all look great to me and I am thinking OH MY ----

I NEED MORE CLOTH

mistycatbaby 03-03-2011 08:30 AM

Me Too!! I'm a quilting and scrapbooking slob!

Emma S 03-03-2011 08:33 AM

I love to peek at your sewing rooms. Mine very much looks like the pictures. When I am sewing it never seems like it's messy but sometimes as I walk in I really get a shock. I will be putting my house up for sale in a month, I doubt I will get much done since I will have to keep it neat and all the clutter out of sight.

So, what's the problem? I can still see some floor   I have said this before and I will say it again...you people didn't mess up these rooms in one day, how can you be expected to clean them up in one day?!?!? My room(s) are no picnic right now, but I have several projects going at once, which I don't like to do. Later this afternoon I am going to do some organizing. I get very upset with myself if I let it get too out of hand; then I can't do good work.

crowley7 03-03-2011 08:59 AM

I can relate to all these pictures. I am in the process of trying to clean but at times I get overwhelmed. I am plowing through though. I do other crafts also and that makes even more of a mess.

okay, I'll not be chicken. Only because this is my temp sewing room until the rest of the house is finished with the remodel. Then I get to move to a bigger room. So this is my not for real sewing room so it can be messy. The room has a big walk in closet which holds a lot of stored stash for now. It is the room in the very back of the lower half of the house so it will never be used for anything, maybe an exercise room. LOL, YEAH SURE.

Too messy Go table, how does all this stuff get on this table?

my Big Board with Steady Betty. Love it!

My security guard is always alert

Design wall, covered insulation board stapled to the wall. Works great.

Not much space in this room at all.

inside closet, very bad.

Tonisews 03-03-2011 09:30 AM

thank you. I am a few few deeper in stach than you...But, Just went to Wal-mart Wednesday and bought close-out bins 'clear' with nice sturdy, color snap-on lids (58 qt. size.)Till gone -only $2 each ! Hurry, if you need 'em... ($10) 5 of those will improve location of my best of my fiber stash, pronto. . . . I hope to get off-line and do it today !

tntgranny 03-03-2011 09:30 AM

Don't see what the problem is. I'm just jealous - all of you seem to have more than I do. You know - "whoever dies with the most stuff wins." Looks like I'm not even in the running yet - will have to look at the Links and Resources section and go shopping.

I'm still waiting and he got his stiches out last Tuesday, he riding his motorcycle so I think he should be able to remove the treadmil if he don't get it out this weekend, I will try to remove it myself if I'm able, but I don't want to hurt my lower back...

Me too, I have nothing compared with you gals/guys.

Tonisews 03-03-2011 09:49 AM

I'm with you...My lower level room now has at least 5 -10 different hobbies supplies all over, over 10 years of buying and dreaming.... Plus: overflow of stash in other parts of the house... Much ruining 'a once nice upstairs laundry room' with a mending desk & pull-out drawer ironing board... closet for household use is fabrics and wrapping paper in heaps. . . Just heard Haiti volunteers want beads, fabrics, and craft items to take down to the women and children ... maybe if I try hard I can sort by what I definitely want to still make, & what I'll never need nor desire to make afterall. Give 50% away... Have renewed creative space - even to tithe 10 % of it helps them and me. Try to get sorted in a hurry ...volunteers go down every month from different churches...I Just heard the request at a meeting this week . . . And I won't go to this weeks shop Hop ! Not even to the local store. . .

Well, LAST week it was pretty neat and tidy...
until I took out the storage shelving unit with all the stuff stacked on/in/on top of and all the fabric to reorganize
- and put in a new storage cabinet with LOCKING doors - woohoo!

Oh.. AND I share this room with our 3 year old (the reason for locking doors) as her play-room
(while I sew) on one side.
Kinda hard to see much of a 3 year old in here now. (except for the similarity in quantity of mess made, perhaps!)

I am really worried. Will any of you get to use this all or will it eventually go to the dumpster becasue no one wants it. USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That way you do not have to store it. Some of you have more fabric and notions than stores in my area have. Sorry mine is a mess and no one sees it but my goal is to use what I have before I step into a store. Hope I can do that. Someone said the best thing I have heard do not buy another storage item use what you have and then you do not need more storage units.

Thank You...Yes, it is depressing to see the un-started - and unfinished projects as I sort ...I just wrote a depressing letter to a friend after my message here....sorry...I will get more positive...right after I finish sewing a new ''something''... As soon as I get my machine unburried. . .

Tonisews 03-03-2011 11:13 AM

Go for it...bring in a Eagle Boy Scout and give him a few bucks. to move it.....Your husband will think twice about not doing it sooner next time, if you bring in th eyounger and handsome he'll pay attention. . .
