I read it some where that women are buying blades at Home Depot or Lowes or Harbor Freight for their rotary cutters. They are sold as carpet cutters. Has anyone purchased them and how good did you find them? I hear they may not have the little notch and the blades slide. What did your purchase find? How well did the work?

gollytwo 09-28-2010 11:52 AM

Home Depot and Lowes had straight, not round, carpet cutters.
Harbor Freight is the one pople talk about; Different folks on the Board reported good results

Terryl 09-28-2010 11:57 AM

I bought them from Harbour Freight and have them in my cutter now. They work just fine, I found that they're not as thick as the olfa blades but I've been cutting away with mine, so far so good :) :) For .75 per blade you can't go wrong.

woody1229 09-28-2010 11:59 AM

I recently picked up the rotary blades at Harbor Freight and couldn't believe the price -- a fraction of the 'official' Olfa blades. The blades are not exactly the same size as the ones for my 60 mm cutter, but they works
just fine. I find them at least as sharp, if not a little sharper. While I'd probably prefer the ones made specifically for the Olfa cutter, the price difference makes the Harbor Freight ones definitely worth it!

The biggest upside is that I don't hesitate to change blades the way I did when they were several $$ apiece!

I just got a notice from HF that my blades have been shipped! YAY! I ordered 10 pkgs of 2,(for 1.49/pkg) so that should hold me for a while! I can't wait until they get here!

Baysidegal 09-28-2010 12:52 PM

I've been using them alot lately. They work great in my Olfa and Fiskars RC

Quiltforme 09-28-2010 01:18 PM

I ordered mine back in august and they just shipped today I will post how I like them.

Chasing Hawk 09-28-2010 01:19 PM

That is all I use now.

I guess I will be using more after tomorrow when my Alto's Quilt Cut 2 gets here. I am so excited.

finch 09-28-2010 01:21 PM

I bought some a while back and I love them. They cut great for me.

ssnare 09-28-2010 01:34 PM

I went to harbor frieght and they do not even carry them.

Joanie Owen 09-28-2010 02:03 PM

I have one in my Olfa cutter now and I am very pleased at it's performance.

tigger5464 09-28-2010 03:04 PM

I found several pkgs at harbour freight and now they are out of stock. They will call when they get more in...get a rain check. I use them and figure that there are only so many places to make them that they are just as good. I know that Heinz in Muscatine Iowa makes Heinz catsup and soups...but they also put different store brand labels on the same cans!! They also do the same (in Muscatine) with cat foods and other products that come from that plant.

sewmuchmore 09-28-2010 03:12 PM

I love them and you can not complain about the price :!:

Janetlmt 09-28-2010 03:32 PM

I like the blades from Harbor Freight..they work great.

prezzy 09-28-2010 03:36 PM

I use mine all the time. Here in Rochester they went up to 1.99 for two blades. Still a good price.

MISHNJIM 09-28-2010 03:54 PM

I got mine from Harbor Freight....Not a problem with them, I have been using the blade since I bought them.

bsktkeeper 09-28-2010 04:23 PM

They have them in stock . I used site given above. Hope they are as good as all have said.

Love my stash 09-28-2010 07:05 PM

I like them just as well as the more expensive ones. No problems at all.
Just an FYI though, the blades fit the 45 mm cutter and not the 60 mm.

LucyInTheSky 09-28-2010 07:18 PM

I just wish the shipping wasn't so much! Kinda eats up any savings...

quiltnmom 09-28-2010 07:22 PM

I have a Harbor Freight one in my cutter now and so far it's great. They were actually out of the blades themselves which were $1.99 for 2 but they had the carpet cutter which had 1 in it and 2 replacements for $3.99 which is still a great deal. From time to time we get a sales flyer in the mail that has a 20% off purchase coupon. That makes it even more of a deal.

featherweight 09-28-2010 07:42 PM

We have a free flash light and a 20% off coupon in our paper every Sunday. I also bought the carpet cutter with the 3 blades and then tossed the cutter out, it still made a great deal. Cheaper then the Olfa's.

bsktkeeper 09-29-2010 06:43 AM

harbor freight.com/carpet blades.

Tinabodina 09-30-2010 03:54 AM

I ordered blades on line in August and they are back ordered until October. Seems like all us quilters are putting them in demand. I ordered them from Harbor Freight.

applique 09-30-2010 04:06 AM

Love them! Paired up with the Alvin double sided self healing mat and off to the races!!!

Up4BigChal 09-30-2010 04:23 AM

They sent me an email telling me that my order of 10 pkgs had been shipped also. I can hardly wait. The blade in my cutter is getting a little dull but I didn't want to go buy a new blade at JoAnn's. These are way cheaper.

Stitchnripper 09-30-2010 05:05 AM

I have used them and they fit fine in the 45 mm holder. They seem to work well, so far!! And so cheap, can change them more often without feeling it in the wallet!

Nanalulu 09-30-2010 05:16 AM

I think they are great. Don't last quite as long, but you are not so hesitant to change them as they are so inexpensive.

mommy and pebbles 09-30-2010 05:23 AM

I think they are great, I have cut a lot with the one blade and have not had to change. I had a friend pick up a pack so I could try them. This is a SUPER price, but I think once they figure out us quilters are latching on to them, they will raise the price.

quiltmom04 09-30-2010 05:28 AM

I got some at harbor Freight the other day and they work just fine. At 2 blades for $1.99 you can't go wrong!

conniebrooks 09-30-2010 05:35 AM

Hello, I bought blades from Harbor Freight. I am very disappointed. They did a terrible job. Right away they seemed like they were cutting like my old throw away blades. Did not cut good at all. Will not buy them again. Let me know if anyone else had this trouble. I am goingto Joanns and going to buy the good ones after all the trouble I have had. Not a happy camper. Thank goodness they were so cheap.

Joan Gaddis 09-30-2010 05:49 AM

i went to h.f. and bought 10 pks. at 1.99 ea. so mine equals out to 1.00 each but thats still better than walmart

Betty Lee 09-30-2010 06:06 AM

Just found our store location and plan on
getting those blades. Thanks for the information.

featherweight 09-30-2010 06:15 AM

Good luck finding them. Our stores in Denver have been out for months. All are back ordered. I would be waiting until domesday to quilt if I waited on Harbor Freight.

marilynr 09-30-2010 06:24 AM

Portland, Oregon store has them in stock.

judykay 09-30-2010 07:16 AM

I use these blades and have not noticed any difference. I feel if they are sharp enough for carpet cutting they are sharp enough for fabric. However I am having a hard time getting them, it seems that every time I check they are completely out. I tried ordering them through the store but they tell me they don't have enough man power to call me when they come in. How have others been able to get them, I only have one HF in my area.

Judy from Michigan

EagarBeez 09-30-2010 07:17 AM

I ordered awhile back from HF and they sent me a notice saying that they were on back order, and if I still wanted to wait. If I did, don't do anything, your order will be shipped when they get stock. I did not do anything, so I still am waiting for my order. I ordered 10 packs, the same as most everyone else and I am looking forward to trying them out

Quilting Nana 09-30-2010 07:23 AM

I have been using my blade for a month now. I use it every day and it is still sharp.
I ordered 10 packs from my local HF. It took 3 weeks to get them. They honored the origional price of $1.49. I think I will not have to buy another blade for years.
They fit 45mm cutters.
