After reading about carpet cutter blades at arbor Freight, I made hubby take me out there.
2 to a package and only $1.45 WOOHOO. I bought 10 packages before they discover quilters are using them and raise the price. They are super sharp. think they are made sharper as carpet is tough. Cut like going through butter. Girl in store said they will have to limit how many a person can buy at a time. They are dangerous. I looked at her and "I am 61 years old I know how to use a blade and one will cut someone just as well at 20." Always trying to take our bonuses away lol. |
wow, glad you found some!
What are you using them for? Can you take a picture of them?
What a great deal :D:D:D

Thank you Thank you Thank you. I just ordered 10 pkgs. wowee this will keep me going for a long time at $.75 per blade.
Woo hoo! They're on back order now. Word gets around obviously! Maybe for once I'll accompany DH to Harbor Freight and stock up! He can buy me breakfast afterward!
http://www.harborfreight.com/pack-of...des-97642.html Thanks for letting us know they fit our ordinary rotary cutters. I like to change my blade often. Daily would be nice. Cheaper than arthritis meds for my elbow! I knew they could make those blades cheaper. I've used X'acto blades for 25+ years and they're not that pricey. It really surprised me about rotary cutter blades. |
They are on back order DH is looking to see if he can find them for me. He is amazed how resourceful you guys are.
:XD: |
I use these blades all the time. As a matter of fact I am the one who let everyone in on my discovery. :)
They fit 45mm rotary cutters, I have a Fiskar's cutter. I have enough blades to last me a year now. |
would make a good swap pal pressie
Darn, I wish they made them for the 60mm cutter.
Dang! We were right by there today!!!I'll get some next time....on the other hand....I'm still recovering from cutting myself with quilter's rotary blades...LOL
Oh wow! Thanks for the info!!
Will these fit my olfa 45 mm?
Let us know if you find them someplace else!! I would get some.....
No cutting yourself! I have nightmares about that! How bad was it? I often wonder how many quilters have had to have stitches from rotary cuts. Maybe none I hope!
I drive people crazy cutting toward myself, but no one taught me how to use a rotary cutter. Graphic designers (me) always cut down which is toward yourself. We have great control over our blades and know the consequences of dull blades and not paying attention. Sharp blades are the key. If you can get them for 75 cents a piece, switch them out daily. Your arm will thank you. Cutting with a rotary blade should be like cutting through softened butter. If it isn't, you need a new blade or a new elbow. Your choice. |
I wonder if they would work with the Martelli cutters?
Harbor Frieght has their corporate offices in my town. I drive by them on my way to work. Maybe I will have to stop in after work to the store and see if they have them. |

Goodness, the word spreads fast and the hoarding has begun. I cannot find ANY at all in town. The last store said "Somene came in and bought everything we had!" C'mon, ladies, share.

What is the wear and tear on the cutting mats? Are they a lot sharper than the blades made for our cutters? If they behave themselves on my mat they sound like a great deal!
Also, do any of you have anybody in your area that sharpens the rotary blades? |

This is just so wrong that you can slap a "quilters" name on it and jack up the price. We've got a H.F. here too. I've not bought blades at Joanne's lately. Say, with a 40% off coupon...anyone have what the going rate per blade is?
WOW...this is awesome! Thanks for the tip!
I used to save my 40 percent off coupon for buying the multi pack of blades at JoAnns and unless you are there at 4:00AM there weren't any left! I hope they are kept at a low price...when the demand for a great substitute goes up...the price will.. but it may never go up as high as the quilters blades! I looked and saw they were on backorder...wonder if there are other manufacturers or if Lowes or like stores carry them.
The search is on!!!! |
What a great discovery!! I will surely go buy some today. I always use my coupons at Joann's to purchase my blades and use them till I can't stand it any more. This will surely change my cutting habits! Maybe I will enjoy the cutting part of quilting more. . . or maybe not. Let's get on with the sewing!!! lol
If they fit the Fiskars 45mm, they should fit all 45mm cutters. I have been using all brands in my Olfa and have had no problems.
what a great idea..... I will have to check them out.

Just ordered 8 pkgs. I can wait for the back order at that amazing price!
Where would I find some here in Antlers, Ok?
I just ordered 10 pks. How can they be so cheap and quilters so expensive. Thank you for letting us know. Cost me $20/w shipping. That is $2 for 2 blades. I have paid 4-5 times that at Walmart.
Can anyone answer though --- are they harder on your cutting mat than the others?
I just tried to order some at Harbor Freights, but they're on backorder now....
I would also like to know if they damage the cutting mat AND if they are in Lowe's or Home Depot, stores in my area.
Time for us to check out other places including Norhtern Hydrolics. When we go to docs on Friday I hope the one nearby has some. If not will check everytime I go for allergy shots.
What a great deal! Thanks for the information. They are on backorder so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Love this site and all the wonderful sharing people.
