Oh, that is so pretty!
Time to start looking thru my fabric again to see what I can find.
Actually...I DO have some pansy fabric that will work quite well with it.

Cordelia...yours will be finished this weekend and mailed out on Tuesday.

There's no hurry. I'll hang onto it until the 15th. That's over two weeks away.

Or do you want me to send it out? You've got lots of time. I don't want you to feel rushed.

I thought that border was going to be a piece of cake. I've only been quilting for about 3 years and that block is perfect. When I got it, I measured it one way to the other. I examined every bit of it. I put the ruler on every square inch of that block and it was a perfect 20" x 20" block.

I didn't want to screw it up. So, I picked an easy border. It's all half square triangles.

But, man, I had points on every end, points up, points down, this side, that side.

I had a whole mess o'points to contend with. The carpenters wheel block I did was just a warm up.

:D

It doesn't matter, which ever you want.
But, then again, we really don't want to rush everyone, since it's really a monthly thing. Know what I mean?

Yep!

This project has certainly been a challenge! I got Tricia's log cabin panel a week ago and have been scratching my head ever since trying to figure out what to do. First of all you can never have too much fabric, sooooo I bought more! I found some lucious batiks at the Bernina store! One yard for me and 1 yard for her top! Share and share alike right? I had a huge book of 500 quilt blocks that is published by Better Homes and Gardens and picked out the Streak of Lightening block. I hunted all over Raleigh for Thangles and most fabric stores had never heard of them! So I got out the graph paper and drew some half square triangles and started working on it only to discover a faster way to do the border. All these half square triangles sewn together ended up being flying geese! I found in my sewing room a flying geese ruler put out by Quilt in a Day and amazingly enough, the directions too! So I have been making flying geese like crazy. The border consists of two prs of flying geese. They are opposites of each other in that there is one dark and one light one and they sit on top of each other andmake the lightening bolt. I am no where ready to post a picture yet, but now after worrying and pondering for a while week, I am fired up and excited. I am into something that I may never have pushed myself to do before and that's great! I am having to go slow as I have never attempted flying geese before but I think (or hope) Tricia will be pleased!
Back to sewing! But I just had to share my progeress & excitement with all of you.

I love hearing that you are being challenged and enjoying it. This is what makes a Round Robin fun is that alot of times we do wind up doing things we normally wouldn't have done. We get in "comfortable" quilting modes and don't step out of our box. What we do works, is quick since we have perfected it and we are pleased with the results. In this Round Robin, we feel a bit of pressure to make someone else's quilt "beautiful" and therefore, we push ourselves.

Keep the stories and pics coming! Everyone is loving them!

You are so right :!: :!: I am loving it and trying new things too. Its been challenging buta lot of fun too.

I don't remember Tricia's block or a log cabin. I'm going to have to go back and check it out ...

Maybe the places in your area call the Thangles by a different name? But, Thangles is a trademark name. You can order them on line.

How do you think I did that border? It's all half square triangles. And I had numerous points to consider. For someone else's block, I wasn't taking any chances of being inconsistent.

Seeing all the beautiful borders, especially the one with all the blue strips, inspires me to try these things to.

My quilt program is fun to play with, but I seriously couldn't rely on it to help me with the border other than visualizing it. I'm importing all the latest fabric images from all over the websites into my program to work with. It's lots of fun.

Now, where can I find a pic of Tricia's panel? Hmmm. I'm going to start looking through all the pages now.

Well, I describe them and their purpose after I called them Thangles--explained that that was a brand name. Hancocks said they had them in the notions deptartment, but when I got there, they ahd never heard of any such animal. Keepsake Quilting had them but it would take 10-12 days to get them here unless I paid extra for Fed Ex. I could buy a whole yard of fabric for what they charged! Then I remember the ruler I had bought but never used to make Flying Geese which is basically what the strak of lightening pattern is. Amazingly I found it and it works beautifully! Flying Geese use to intimidate me,, but never again, unless I lose the little gizmo) I have one and half sides either cut out and pieced and I didn't get started until late yesterday afternoon. I am on a roll :!:  And having a ball!
