Is anyone interested in doing a round robin swap?
|
Please post the details. Thanks.
|
I am not sure what a round robin swap is. Sorry. I love doing swaps though.
|
Sounds like fun, how do we do it?
|
I don't know what it is, but it sounds like it could be fun. Count me in.
|
I would probably do it. but like the others I'm not sure what a round robin swap is.
|
Sounds very interesting, but need more details.
|
Okay, sorry.....
A round robin works this way: You make a quilt center. Any size you want is okay but, keep in mind your finished quilt size. For example: I have a center that is about 20 x 20. It is an embroidered design of mice quilting around a frame. Once we establish a list of people, let's say there is 8......I would mail my center to the 1st person on my list. They would put a pieced border of some kind around my center (any size, style you want - just not plain) and then mail it to the next person on the list. It continues in that form until the 8th and final person receives it, puts the last border on and then mails it back to me. Each month you would have a border to put on someone's quilt for 8 months as everyone's center would be making it's way around. Your list order would be different than everyone else's. I hope this makes sense. It is alot of fun as you get to see others creativity and imagination come to live on your quilt. And, at the beginning what was a center is now a full blown quilt made by you and all your quilting friends. If you are interested, let me know.....PM me your personal email and name so I can get the list made. No matter how many....we can do 2 or more groups to keep the list at 6 to 8 members in each. Any bigger in each group and the quilt gets too large and it takes too long to get it back. I will try and find some pics of some quilts to post and ideas for borders to add for examples. But, the idea is to use your imagination and work off of the last border put on. |

Here is an example of one. |

Another one. Some of these are pretty intricate. No one has to commit to the "A" word but, if you want to.......GO FOR IT! |
So who finally ends up with the quilt? Are they donated to charity or what?
|
You would get the quilt back that started out with your center block. You could then give it to charity or gift it or keep it. It would be up to you.
|
This sounds FABULOUS... How fun. Getting to know each other a little bit more. I am in...hope we get 8 more people!
|
This sounds like so much fun!! I will pm you my info right away.
|
I"m in!
I'll send you my info. |
So far we are at 6, including me.
I am going to be working Thursday and Friday at the quilt shop I volunteer at for SHOP HOP (crazy madness - 2000 quilters in 4 days!!!). Then out of town Saturday and Sunday. So, let's give this until Monday for sign ups and then I'll start compiling the order and lists and contacting everyone. I will check the board each night just in case anyone has any questions. But I won't get time to do planning or answering everyone til Monday. This is going to be so much fun! I have never done one either just always wanted to! Yeah! I thought I would let you all know too (in case you want to do this also) that I am going to be sending along a journal with mine so that each person who adds a border can write something about their part of the quilt or notes to me, add a pic, etc. I am also going to send along a label so that everyone can sign it and I can add it to the back of the quilt. I wouldn't mind making labels for everyone if you want me to send you one. I can embroider them, that will be so cute!!! |
I CAN"T WAIT!!!
|
I was in a round robin once, you make your first block and send it to your mailing buddy. You receive your other buddy's first block, make one to compliment it and send it along. At the end you get your block back with all the blocks made for you by the people in the round robin.
Only problem with the one I was in, the blocks all stopped at one person and we never heard from her again... LOL Have fun with it, they are fun to do. :) |

Okay ladies.....
I have ten people on the list for the Round Robin: mareliba vicki reno sew happy tlrnhi imaquilter littlehud - need personal email addy Dawn Hendrix Quilting Turtle barbsbus bettylove Please PM me with your personal email address if I listed above that I need it. I will email everyone in the morning with instructions, dates, specifics, etc. In the meantime, be looking for what you want to use for your center. It should be at least 20" square. But, not more than probably 36" square. This way, you can get a nice lap quilt out of it. I think we'll set the date for you to mail out your center to the 1st border person on the 1st of May. That gives you 2 weeks to get your center done. I'm VERY excited!!! |
I can't wait to see the pics of your work in progress on this. I'll have to catch the next one hopefully!
|
I can't wait. I already have some ideas. As usual I am having trouble deciding.

I have to figure out a block?
You didn't mention that! UGH!! <only joking> Ok, now I have to figure out WHAT I am going to do for a block. Decisions, decisions........ |
That has been what has kept me all stirred up. I am having a terrible time deciding which one to make! Life sure is complicated sometimes.
|
I am thinking randomness... so whatever you guys do will be for me. Does that make sense?
I have been seacrching the web and am pretty sure I have my center picked out. It will be scrappy so no-one has to hunt to hard to find matching fabrics... PLUS I just love the scrappy look. But the best part it .. this will have all of you guy's hard work with mine. Can ya tell I am just a little bit excited! |
So, does everyone do a center and then you all send them around so everyone ends up with a finished quilt at the end?
|
yes, you make your own center and then it is sent around and other people put borders on it. Then, when completed it gets sent back to you.
|
....
|
HI,
Do you think we can have a little longer to make our center. I need to find something plan my fabric and then make it. What about May 15th or later? Bebe |
I am in a round robin that just started in our local area. I just finished the first round on the center I recieved. We will exchange them at our meeting each month. We have 6 in our groups. Our rules are kind of spelled out. The first round had to be pieced triangle of some kind. Round two is set the block on point. Round 3 will be a border with curves, round 4 is our choice, round 5 is applique. I think I like your idea of no rules for each border. Our center was to be 12 to 18 inches. It could be pieced or just a cut of fabric. The one I submitted is pieced and 16 1/2". The 1st one I recieved is a cut piece of fabric. Borders must be 3 to 6 inches finished. I would love to join this group. having major surgery on Thursday to reconstruct my right shoulder. Four hour surgery. Dr says I will be in brace/harness for 6 to 8 weeks and then 6 to 12 months of therapy. Just not sure how much I will be able to do. I asure everyone my first goal is to rotary cut, sew, and quilt! Oh we also put in our bag a small sprial for each person to write what they did and why and a disposable camera so each step could be photographed. I am going to scan all the pics and notes onto photo fabric and use that as my label.
Hope this gives you some ideas. Connie |

I am really looking forward to this. I have a tendancy to overdo things and am wanting to unleash some of my creative juices. Currently, I am finishing up 3 quilts - a wedding ring quilt for my son and his finance, and 2 twins quilts for twin beds we have in a guest room. I was going to start on my block last night but decided to wait for the instructions. |
I'm trying to figure out WHAT kind of block and color to use.
Oh, decisions, decisions....... |
