Row by Row
Has anyone else been collecting the row by row patterns?
|
I've only got a couple of them so far. Anyone have plans to share theirs here on the board?
|
I have p/u 8 of the rows, won't get to them until lots later in the year, or next year. I like the idea. I will post when I get them done.
|
I have a few but have so many other projects to do I may not get to this for a while.
|
I've collected 4 in FL, 1 in VA, and 1 in PA so far. Haven't stitched any together. Asked the shop today if I could take a picture of their sample to reference. It's a good thing I did as they didn't include a finished drawing or picture!
|
I have picked up three so far on our trip to Oregon. I'm so bummed because I forgot to get one at the Sister's Outdoor Quilt Show and that show was the reason for this trip! We didn't stop long enough in the other states we passed through to find quilt shops. I will probably pick up more closer to home.
|
I have picked up the 7 in my area (MO), 2 from IN and 1 from TX. I took pics of all except the ones from IN and I will get the pics from the Row by Row Facebook page for IN.
|
I have seen a couple finished row by row quilts and they are nice! I know there is no way I can get more than a couple, I wonder if patterns will be made available?
|
I have so many great quilts on my to do list now that I don't want to even look at them at my LQS. If I don't see them, then I won't be tempted.:D

I just finished a shop hop here in Southern Ontario and picked up 13 patterns. They all are different and so cute. I'm not sure that I would put them into a quilt, but they sure would make some nice table runners.
The shop hop also had it's own block collection, each shop gave a free block kit- now I have 13 blocks to make with a Canadian theme of red and white. Nice. |
I have 9 from MD and will be stoping at 4 in FL next week when I go down to visit my mom, and 3 (or more if I can) when I go to my nephew's wedding this weekend in PA. I am going to start putting them together when the kids go back to school. I always get so depressed then, this might help :)
I have really enjoyed visiting the shops. I hadn't gone to many and oh was I missing out! It was so enjoyable to see the different vibe each store had. Such a good idea! |

Did you see some finished RxR quilts? ... there was one at Caledonia and another in Burlington (not on the Shop Hop). It was neat to see the different July Shop Hop R+W assemblies and look forward to weeing yours Quilter1! Did you check out the sewing table at Country Patchwork ... Good Luck in winning it!!! |
I think this Row-by-Row idea is a great one. But the purpose is to get people into the quilt shops. Summertime is their slow time so getting people in is a good thing for business. And, we're not supposed to share the patterns.... because then, people won't go into the shops. So, please honor that condition..... and maybe after the shop hop is over, it might be okay. This year's theme is seasons and there are so many different patterns that the shops have come up with.
In some shops you can buy the fabric license plates.... I've heard that they sell for about $5-$6. I think those are really cute. I don't have many shops that are participating near me. I've only gotten 1 pattern so far. I'm in the northwoods during the summer. But, I hope to get a few patterns when I go downstate to help my son can beans. It would be nice to see what QB members have put together from these patterns. But, let's not share patterns until the shop hop is over. |
I have 5 so far from Florida and on our trip north will pick up some in Michigan and Indiana. Good idea to take a picture as the patterns vary greatly in their detail. I found that the kits are also different prices. One kit I did buy was $8 but other shops were as high as $18. It amazes me that people have had the time to not only collect the patterns from the different shops but also finish a quilt in this length of time. I found that each of the patterns I have really relate to the area where I got the pattern which is nice.

I have five patterns so far, but I have already heard that someone has finished a quilt and presented it for their win of the fat quarters at one of the shops I visited. I don't have that much time on my hands to try to get in for a win of a fat quarter bundle. Some of the pattens are just overly simple with little thought, and a couple are so complex that it will take days to get the row done. One I have from a Western NC shop has a mountain scene, with six maple leaf blocks and some applique. That one alone will take me a month, LOL!!
The site is http://www.rowbyrowexperience.com/ - click on participating shops for a state by state listing. You have until September 2 to get the patterns, and to October 31 to make and present the quilt. |
I don't think I am going to do the row by row quilt. One of the LQS has one that I want. It is a storm at sea row. This is a pattern I have been wanting to try. I am heading out today to go get it. It will make a gorgeous table runner. A storm at sea is on my bucket list.

I have a couple but was disappointed when the shop in Gettysburg only had a couple pages of directions and no pic. Plus you had to buy the Gettysburg fabric they sell. Or you could buy the kit for $12(?). The shop in MD was very nice with a pic and good directions. The shop in MD sent a newsletter that said you could pick up an extra for someone who wouldn't be able to get in, like in another state but when I went in the girl argued with me. My sister and I were going to swap. Oh well, I really didn't need another project anyway.
|
According the to RxR rules, you have to be present in the shop to pick up a free pattern. RxR is to get people to visit shops and promote the industry. Kits may be purchased in multiples in some shops. Some shops will mail license plates if paid for and it is always helpful to the shop if you include a large postage paid envelope for mailing. And some shops will mail the pattern free of charge with a postage paid envelope after Oct 1st. Calling ahead to the shop to check for availability and shop rules for mailings would be prudent. With so many quilt shops closing, please visit and shop your local shops if you'd like to keep them.

My quilting bee group has done a few in the last 2 years and has enjoyed them -- interesting to see what fabrics are used by each of us
|
I picked up 8 patterns on my road trip up to Oregon. I intend to (eventually) put them all into a quilt but that will probably happen long after the deadline for submission. I just want it done as a momento of my trip!
I paid for a total of 5 plates but 3 shops didn't have them in stock so those 3 should be coming in the mail soon, I hope. I intend to use those for a tote bag. :) |
I only have 4 so far. Going on a bus trip this coming Saturday with 42! ( One being my sister) Other quilters to get more. Will be so much fun. Leaving Granbury, Texas and visiting surrounding quilt shops. I was at the quilt store in Corpus Christy and the lady was the nicest! She didn't have her pattern printed off and mailed it to me with a picture. Love her row. Also the store in Port LaVaca was super nice. Her row is so cute too.
|
Yup, doing it here in Mi. But nothing is stitched, just fondled.
|
I picked up a few patterns and the kits , but don't know when I'll get them done. I have a quilt on the frame and 2 planned for my grandsons. Maybe next year :)

I have a couple but truly I am not impressed with what I have seen. The patterns have either such poor instructions that you need to be a seasoned quilter to understand them or the pattern itself is just Ho-Hum. I apologize to those of you who may have written good instructions or created new exciting patterns but I wandered through all of the sites of shops in two states on face book that I either go to or could go to and was quite unimpressed. I did collect some patterns but will give them to others in my guild that are doing the row by row and let them use them. I love the concept but... it needs a little fine tuning in my opinion.

I have a couple from my summer travels but would love to have one from every area participating. If any one is not going to use their copy I would be delighted to pay postage, hint-hint! I can see a wonderful seasonal quilt from different areas in my mind and am needing a winter project. Golly-a quilt for ever season from all over the continent...now that's a thought!

I have collected 13 rows and 9 plates along my trip to Illinois and South Dakota then back to Texas. I love the rows but love, love, love the plates. I am hoping they sell the plates after the row by row over would love at least one from each state :-) I know we can't trade pattern but what about plates? Happy Hopping :-)

Ok....where have I been. What are you guys talking about???????

How funny to have this come up today. Friends and I have been out picking up patterns today. We have 4 from here in California so far. I would love to exchange with others for their patterns.

I have collected about ten across Massachusetts. So far I finished one, then got distracted making The Big Star Christmas Quilt. I will get back to my rows soon. Some of them are really cute!

The central FL shops and coastal shops in central FL seem to go together with a definite FL flavor (beaches, horses, etc) and I wish I could have visited more before vacation. Now that I'm traveling, there's less continuity. VA had a spring and bunny theme which is cute and the one in PA so far has ants at a picnic. All are cute/nice. One shop owner said a customer came in with a finished quilt that had the row and then the license plate at the end of the row. The next row, she had the plate at the beginning of the row followed by the pattern. It was a good memory of her travels. So I'm going to follow that idea, I think. Trouble is, not all the shops have the plates, so I'll have to get creative on those to fill in the space. It's really interesting to go into the different shops. Such variety!

Just heard about this yesterday while being a guest at another guild.......the sample shown was only 36" wide....what for??????? This license plate thing...are they panel fabri or what? Was mentioned but not shown so don't know what that is about......I'm guessing this is just a row by row type quilt design?

At one store, I saw a finished quilt where they had broken a row of four stars, into single stars and used as cornerstones. Then made a matching pair of rows that they turned on their side to broaden out the quilt. Coordinating fabrics were used throughout and they ended up with one fantastic quilt! :) Many are doing the rows singly ... as wall hangings or as table runners. Some hang nicely horizontally, and some can go either ways. Coopah ... thanks for the license plate idea. Others?? ... any other license plate usage ideas? |
