Another comment on the Row by Row...my quilting buddy and I had a lot of fun last summer visiting quilt shops in our state that we didn't even know existed! I generally tried to make some purchase other than the row in each store because I understa that is the purpose. We are already planning to do our own little shop hop on the 22nd of this month. Sadly, I have seen some really wonderful rows from other states that I'd love to do but, I'm not going to be traveling anyplace this summer. i really wish they would offer the rows by mail to out of state people.

Because of the contest with Row by Row, stores will not mail out patterns or kits before the deadlines to submit a winning quilt. After that, stores may charge for patterns (although some have even posted them on their website) and they may have them available to mail along with kits. I believe that last year was the first year it was a national event. This year all the patterns should be new.
I had great fun with special friends shopping the Row by Row. So many stores have special fabrics that are different from other stores. If you want to get a jump on things for the contest aspect, I noticed that the Hancock's catalog has designated the Row by Row fabrics for this year.

Here's a link to the main page. http://www.rowbyrowexperience.com/ You can find shops listed by state when you click on the "Start Here" tab at the top of the page. The theme this year is Row By Row H2O, so everything is built around water. There are facebook pages for each state, so you can see their rows listed there. It's lots of fun!

It was fun last year while traveling to visit shops, although I quickly decided that I would forego kits since each shops colorways varied so much, and I really only did one pattern--lots of applique and embroidery and I'm not as interested in that. But I love the license plates and eventually get a tote put together from them. I'm excited about Timeless Treasures Row by Row fabric this year! And yes, do buy something at each shop, even if just a fat quarter or two--that's the whole purpose. I plan visit at least one shop in CA next month while there for a family wedding,
and may go on a Row by Row bus trip. Check out Jinny Beyers' website for her R by R pattern--really cool paper piecing!

I did it last year on a small scale and got 3 patterns. It was fun, and this year my friend and I plan to do a little shop hopping. If I remember correctly, the kits ran $12.00 and under. I would expect them to be a little more this year. The shops try to keep the cost down. IMHO I'm looking forward to it this year.

Just dropped my machine off the servicing at my local BabyLock dealer here in PA. They are in the Row by Row and their kit is 10.00. They also have the license plates and this year there is a pin, which I have been told is the same for all shops. I'd love to do this but I won't be travelling at all and being that it includes shops in the entire US it won't be much fun if you can't get to a large variety throughout several states. Good luck to those that participate. My shop owner explained that the first person to bring a completed (which they said had to be at least 6 or 8 rows) into any shop wins a prize. The shops only have their row that they designed. If I could get my friend to go along I would probably try this. If those that do completed a quilt, could you please pictures?
