I saw Eleanor Burns and several quilt shops use the most wonderful ruler. It is a Fiskars with a rotary cutter attached directly to it. It is not that little one like you see in Joannes. I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I could get one?

Try looking in the scrapbook section. I bought one years ago for scrapbooking, a fiskars rotary cutter and I loved it. Never thought about changing the blade, dusting it off and trying it for quilting.
|
It may be the one that they discontinued, but I don't know for sure.
|
Just Google it they will come up, I just did.
|
Fiskars stopped making it a few years ago. Once in a while, one shows up on eBay, or here. There are shorter ones used for scrapbooking, and DonnaDewwhatever also has a 12" one for fabric. That's sometimes available at Joann's.
There is a 27" one from SewEasy that's made in Australia (the links below are for reference/pictures only - read more after): - http://www.sewingcraft.com/products.php?brandid=1030 scroll down to Ruler Cutter Imperial R4186 Select that and then click on the little picture to give you a better idea. Here's another picture of it: http://www.myshopping.com.au/ZM--389...ng_Accessories The Quilt Place in Rockledge Florida sells this same item. I've asked them numerous times to put it on their website because so many people ask about the Fiskars. They were holding off because they didn't have boxes for shipping it - it's very long. I just called and spoke to Maureen. She says they'll have it up in a few days on the website. The cost is $49.99 plus shipping. Here's the link to the store if you want to order online (keep checking). http://www.thequiltplace.com/ or you can call and order it over the phone. I saw it when I visited the shop a few months ago. It's a huge, busy shop, and all the ladies were using it at all the cutting tables. It was very cool so we all bought one. I brought it home and put it in a safe place to use when I cleaned up my sewing tables. I'll let you know how it's working whenever I find it again. |
Well, I just answered my own question, after reading your reply. I called customer service at Fiskars(why didnt I think of that before DUH)...anyway, they discontinued making that ruler. The person who answered said she gets calls EVERY WEEK, people are looking for it...but they dont seem to care because they still havent brought it back. Wish I could buy one.

SewEasy has a similar one on the market. However, they are in Australia. The Quilt Place imports them, and they can be purchased from there. Wait a few days until she puts up the pictures on the website so you can see it in more detail. The links I provide were the only (ok, first) pictures I found. |
Thank you so much for that info. Do you know if you can use any rotary cutting blades or will it only use their brand?

Regular blades.
|
I also have one and just love it.
|
It looks like the ruler is only 4" wide? It sure seems like a great idea though. I'm guessing you would learn to adjust to a narrower ruler ...quickly...if it is really as wonderful as it looks. It takes any 45mm blade?
|
It says 4 1/2 X 27 1/2

Fiskars has discontinued it. I had one and didn't like it (sorry it's sold) you can find them on ebay sometimes. I'd also put a want request in the classifieds on this board.
|
I just HAD to have the Donna Dewberry one. HATED it. Returned to Joanns within 72 hours.
Now, that's not to say that I won't try the one that's imported from Australia - I keep seeing very positive feedback on that one. |
I saw about three of them when I was fabric shopping a couple of weeks ago. They were priced at $49.95 each.

Check Walmart that's where I got mine. The Fiskers with the 45mm blade. It was a couple of years back but I saw one recently when wandering one of the stores. It's great for cutting strips
|
I got mine at Walmart a couple of years ago, cost me about 20 bucks. I keep forgetting to use it.
|
I have one but have not tried it...only had it a few years LOL I will definatey have to give it a go.
|
Did a search and found a few, http://sewing-online.com/Equipment/q...Rotary_Cutter/ and I can't afford it at present

I just looked. That is so nice.

I was checking to see if the shop had put up the ruler/cutter as I wanted to post the link ere. It wasn't but I noticed this other ruler on their site which I don't think I've seen before.
Seems like a less expensive option for those that have a hard time cutting straight with a rotary cutter along the side of the ruler. With this ruler, it looks like the blade (while totally separate) can only travel in the groove. NAYY but thought it might be of interest/use to someone else: http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/sto...3&Item_ID=5618 |

I might take a look at his. Very interesting. :)
|
Ooooh, a new tool  I can't resist!
|
It was a Fiskars and it is 6 1/2" wide x 30" long. I am not at home where it is but I am postive about the width and almost postive about the length. I have had mine for several years and the envy at my quilt guild. I use it more than any other ruler or cutter. It may seem awkward to some, but I find it to be so handy for even the smallest pieces. I bought mine at Wal-Mart years ago.

If you will google "Fiskars 12" rotary Trimmer you should find several places that sell them. Try crafts shops, Target scrap book/crafts dept. They used to be about $45. or so. I have found it works good only is your fabric is starched real good. And I have only been able to cut 2 to 4 pieces at time, depends on the fabric, but I could be doing something wrong. Since I got the Accuquilt Go, I hardly use it for fabric. But, I do use it for paper and you can purchases 10 different cutting blades. I really like the Perforating blade to do tops of towels if I'm going to crochet on them, makes the stitching holes even.

This is the system that I'm saving for... https://www.sewezquilting.com/altosproducts/]https://www.sewezquilting.com/altosproducts/[/url]

Eleanor Burns sells rulers and patterns. Go to her web site and see. She also has a TV program. If you have Direct TV, search for programs by keyword, quilting.
