fluffygirl 10-14-2011 03:56 PM

I use my 6x24 for cutting my strips, but use my 4x14 for almost everything else, just really like the small size of it.

Boy do I feel stupid. When I read that people like their Shape Cuts, I had no clue what it was. Looked it up and watched a demo on how to use it. I have one that I bought when I first started quilting and had no clue how to use it, so I decided it was pretty much worthless. Now that I've seen the demo, I'll have to give it a try. Learn so many things on this board. Thank you!!

Is anyone else like me?

6X24 ALSO AND YARD STICK

janquilts'ncrochets 10-14-2011 05:42 PM

I tend to use my 6x12 in. the most. If cutting strips wof I use the 6x24. I have a 15 in. square for squaring up if it's more than 6 in square.

biscuitqueen 10-14-2011 08:06 PM

I like my 6x24 and I have a 16x16 rotatory that I really like. If I had more rulers, I love gadgets.

oldbalt99 10-14-2011 09:12 PM

That's like asking when you paint a still life what brush do you use. I use whatever ruler I need to get the job done. A 6x24", a regular 12 inch school, a 4x12, when I use large widths of material a measuring tape and yard ruler. When I first started quiting I used the yard stick, school ruler and measuring tape.

I did not know what a shape cut ruler was either. I have never folded the fabric twice to cut strips. I cut the wof using my 6.5 x 24. How about the rest of you...do you fold your fabric twice and use a smaller length ruler?

islandboundquilting 10-14-2011 11:35 PM

8x24. used to have a 6x24 but sombody stole it at a quilt retreat!! Can you believe it, had my name on it and everything. Oh well. Now I have the 8x24 and I love it, took a while to get used to, but I like it een better.

Beth33 10-15-2011 02:09 AM

I use 6" square most often.

Same here, except my square is 12 1/2. I use the June Tailor slotted thingy a LOT.

I fold, but I still use the same ruler.

MissJMac 10-15-2011 05:38 AM

In order of usage:
6x24
4x13
6 1/2 Square
12 1/2 Square up

shortstuff 10-15-2011 07:06 AM

My 6 x 24 the most

I don't because I am too much of a klutz! I use the 6x24 and work very hard to make sure I can get the one fold straight! Two folds is more than I can manage! LOL

GGinMcKinney 10-15-2011 03:43 PM

Learned something new today. Thank you for mentioning watching a video to learn to use the June Tailor shape cut ruler. I learned so much watching the video. I will try the ruler again, now.

MerryQuilter 10-15-2011 04:15 PM

Also prefer the smaller, 24 " usually too long but sometimes use. Most used 4 and half by 14

Quilty-Louise 10-15-2011 04:21 PM

My lip rulers are my most used, I have 3 sizes
3x18, 5x24 and 4x36.

After those three than it all depends on what I
am wanting to do will decide what size ruler that
I will use.

Sew Krazy Girl 10-15-2011 10:47 PM

I use my oddball O'lipfa 45° Angle Ruler; 5"X14". The point on it makes it easy to pick up. Should get a new one as the numbers are getting worn. Haven't been able to find one at JoAnn's.

MadQuilter 10-15-2011 11:06 PM

6x12 and 6x6. Those I can't do without. I have a large one for squaring up blocks too but wish I had one a little smaller.

Aunt Sue 10-15-2011 11:43 PM

My 6x12 is my favorite, then my 6x24, 8.5x8.5

scrappy2 10-16-2011 04:15 AM

6x24 ruler is the one I use the most. Had to buy a second one wore the printed lines off the first one.

AnnR 10-16-2011 04:56 AM

The Shape-Cut ruler my hands down favorite...followed by my 6" X 24" ruler.

Taughtby Grandma 10-16-2011 12:16 PM

I have a metal yardstick and a metal framing square I stold from my DH. I don't have to worry about cutting chunks out of them with my rotary cutter - however, I have learned they can dull a blade reallly quickly. Haha

katz_n_kwiltz 10-16-2011 02:15 PM

I like the straight ones!! LOL

What about the wavy rulers?

Jennifer22206 10-16-2011 05:23 PM

I have a very very small cutting area (13x19) so my 6.5x13 ruler is great. and my 12.5 square is great.

sewbeadit 10-16-2011 10:42 PM

6x24 by far the most. :-)

roxie623 10-17-2011 08:48 PM

I use my Altos Quilt Cut2 most of the time so rulers are not used except for smaller work.

Wunder-Mar 10-18-2011 08:40 AM

I use my O'Lipfa 5x18 and 5x24 the most. My main cutting mat mat is 24x36, but on occasion I use the 36x60.

laurlync 10-18-2011 08:46 AM

I use my 6 x 24 ruler a lot...for folding fabric!!! LOL! I LOVE my Shape Cut rulers and use them about 95% of the time.

I continue to use my 6x12inch ruler. I only use the 6x24 if I am cutting lengths of fabric for strips or for the sashing.

katigirl 10-20-2011 12:06 AM

My 6 by 24 and my 6 by 6 are used the most.

dahlshouse 10-22-2011 05:02 PM

I have a 5 x 24 one with a lip on it to go along edge of mat.. this is my favorite for large cuts... otherwise like the 3 x 18 one.. also like my 12 sq... use that plastic on back for non slip...

cjsparks 10-22-2011 05:09 PM

6 x 12 and 12.5 square
