I set mine on the floor and let it blow beneath the table level on low. Keeps the air moving but not my sewing. We have central A/C but leave it off unless the temps get really high, then we close off the windows and use the A/C. The fan really does keep the sewing room pleasant.
Stay cool and Sew Happily. ;) |
I use the ceiling fan on the low setting. When things get really bad, I run a small occilating (sp?) fan at my feet. Let the thread scraps fall as they may. I just vacuum them up. When the weather is really hot and humid and nothing seems to help, I just bite the bullet and run the AC cooler.

Try using a circulating fan. It circulates the air but does not blow air at you. My mother had one years ago and it always kept us cool.

We have central air and also use fans to circulate the air. When my stuff blows around I just put something heavy (scissors or such) and that solves the problem. If it doesn't, I take the time to put things away, and I HATE THAT!

My husband keeps this place like a refrigerator, I usually have a sweater on when I go to my sewing area in the basement.

This summer if you are living in our part of Texas (temperatures 107 to 112) even with central cooling, I use a fan in the room, ceiling fan and a small fan blowing on my sewing machine. Our electric bills are going to be out of sight.

I use the ceiling fan even with the windows open to keep air moving.
OKAY... ceiling fans usually have a directional switch... clockwize in summer to direct air flow directly downwards; and counter-clockwize in winter so the air goes outwards and bounces off the walls to re-circulate (ie: the heat). Perhaps switching to "winter" might help??? and as a reminder, you can mark the switch on the fan (with tape or pen, pencil, etc.) W for Winter and S for Summer... (or O for Outwards and D for Down ...or whatever... Hope this helps your blown-away projects. |
I have a window air cond., a big fan facing toward the ceiling and 2 small fans. Not bad on the 3rd floor here in PA.
