RV
How many quilters out there live in an RV and how do you like it? Do you have a place set up for your sewing machine? Post pictures if you have any.

I don't, but I remember a thread a few months back about quilters who quilt while camping. I was amazed at the ingenuity of these people. They made such good use of limited space. I believe there were some that lived in their RV's.

I tow a small caravan. I take as much sewing notions as possible and sewing machine . Usually my janome as it will piece, quilt and embroidery. Love sitting outside with the machine or cutting up in the sun. You don't need food always go to a take away or local pub. Take 3 dogs who will sit. On seats inside out of the way or on the shade,I have with the caravan a old up 6ft table which is fantastic. I. Down think I ound live all year in it but as muh as possible, I would have to change sites regularly. I'm a sagitarian .

We live in a 38 foot motorhome and I quilt almost daily. If you read the threads QuiltnNan listed you will have lots of info. It is quite doable!!

I had no problem sewing in my 34 ft motorhome. I got three boxes that had handles cut out and put my material in them and slid under couch and had sewing machine and other fabric under bed. Used the bed with pinning board on bed when making clothing and cutting out. Of course my back was better then.

I'm taking mine along on a trip as we speak...we don't live in ours, but we do take frequent long trips. I try to prepare as much as possible and take the small Janome with me, along with my small cutting mat, small iron, and a homemade pressing surface (mdf board, batting & canvas). I'm in the middle of a quilt and have everything labeled for ease of construction. Can't wait to try my hand sewing outside on a beautiful day : )

DH and I live in our 36' Motorhome and I started quilting about a year ago after taking a 'sample' class at a local Community College. In that time I have made 9 lap quilts, one king size quilt and numerous tabletoppers, etc. I set my machine up on our 24" x 30" dining table whenever we stop for a few days and work on projects while DH goes fishing. My stash is in a basket that also doubles as my end table. ( I can really cram a bunch of fabric in it !) I was able to sell the king size quilt for over $500.00 and have purchased new fabric for another. Space is always an issue in an RV but there is always a way ! I used the inside wall of maintenance shop to hang my backing, batting and top to sandwich together before the quilting. A chair next to the table helps hold the bulk and I just quilt away !
One really great thing is the number of shops I get to visit and all of the new friends I make at RV Parks. There are lots of quilters in RV's ! RVing is not for everyone but don't let your living circumstances limit you. I say "pick up your scissors and run with them !" |
I do not live in an RV but do take my machine when we travel in ours. Setting mine up on the dinning table works for me.
