Saint for quilters!!

1 Attachment(s)
My nice went to Santa Fe for vacation and found this while shopping. So kind of her to think of me.

We have our own Saint!! When everything is going wrong with our quilt, we can pray to Saint Rose of Lima for help! Here is the wooden plaque she sent me.

Just read her bio. Sounds troubled.

janRN 01-13-2013 03:00 PM

There's a church in my area called St. Rose of Lima. I never knew she's the patron saint of quilting. Thanks for sharing that info.

Gives me the shivers just to read about her.

AuntieD 01-13-2013 04:22 PM

What a great niece to send you that. I will have to request one from my local Catholic store.

Jingle 01-13-2013 04:39 PM

We have schools and churches here with that name. I love the plaque. Good to know we quilters have someone to pray to if things don't go right. I am not catholic, wonder if that makes a difference.

hannajo 01-13-2013 04:44 PM

mjsylvstr 01-14-2013 05:08 AM

Just recently made a charity quilt for one of the ladies' organization of St. Rose of Lima Church in the next town over......
and I never knew that She was our Patron Saint.

Interesting. Thanks for the post

madamepurl 01-14-2013 05:49 AM

Isn't that interesting. She was my Patron Saint at Confirmation. I remember doing research, but I guess I didn't remember her needlework background.

Pat625 01-14-2013 05:52 AM

I went to a St. Rose of Lima for elementary school..Maybe that's why I am quilt obsessed!

AnnT 01-14-2013 05:57 AM

Cool! Good to know.

Belfrybat 01-14-2013 06:13 AM

This was news to me as St Anne is the traditional patron saint for seamstresses and quilters.

Mary T. 01-14-2013 06:16 AM

Does anyone know where one can obtain one?

marytp 01-14-2013 07:22 AM

That's great! Good 2 know!

MarieM 01-14-2013 07:52 AM

Can you find out what shop she got that at? I'd love to order one.

That is interesting, when I was confirmed I picked Anne as my conformation name.

Interesting reading on both Saints, I'll take both and have myself covered as a Grandmother and a needle worker.

cjr 01-14-2013 10:05 AM

Wonderful to know and for you to post. The next time I am in NM I will pick up a Santo of St. Rose de Lima. There is a patron saint for every profession and almost every hobby, except probably computers, they are to new.

dash2000lbs 01-14-2013 10:20 AM

Nice to know ...

meow meow 01-14-2013 10:43 AM

To Jingle no it doesn't matter if you are Catholic or not. Prayer is for everyone and to know we have a Saint for quilters is awesome I know for myself I need all the help I can get and often ask for prayer not only from the Saints but from my friends too. Enjoy now I am going to go see if my son can get me a wooden plaque like this from his local church which just happens to be St. Rose of Lima Church. Thanks for sharing the post with us jcrow. I live in NM and can say that your niece probably had the most glorious time in Santa Fe.

JanieH 01-14-2013 11:32 AM

Great to know we have our very own saint! Beautiful plaque!

ube quilting 01-14-2013 03:19 PM

I need all the help I can get and I'll accept it from anywhere!
peace

maviskw 01-14-2013 08:04 PM

I'm glad to hear about St. Rose of Lima. I was in Lima in October, and saw more churches than you would believe, but never heard that St. Rose was the patron of quilters. We can make use of her help.

leighway 01-15-2013 10:25 AM

And with all due respect, though I love St. Rose of Lima, here are some lesser known saints the "quilter's fixes" they oversee...

Divokittysmom 01-15-2013 11:46 AM

I love the idea that we have a patron Saint for quilters and needleworkers!!! Awesome!! I too would love to find this in my local Catholic gift shop! Guess I'll google it and see if it's available online.. just in case!! Thanks sew much for posting this!!

Divokittysmom 01-15-2013 12:07 PM

I just googled Patron Saints for Needleworkers and came up with yet another.. St Clare Patron Saint of Embroiderers... guess we need a lot of help from above... I know I sure do! lol

piecNpat 01-15-2013 03:41 PM

Seventeen years of Catholic school and I did not know this about St Rose of Lima. I do remember she had roses that fell out of her cape. Thanks for the info!

Auntie Em 01-15-2013 06:09 PM
