Today was a glorious day. We went to an auction and DH bought me a new sewing room (and, yes, there is a 3 BR house around it! But, a dedicated,all-my-own private place to make a mess as I please...But, I hope to do it up as nicely as some I've seen on this board.

Gotta worry about the bright red carpet though....what to do?

Maride 10-23-2010 11:33 AM

You pull out that carpet and install a laminated floating floor, like Pergo. It cleans easily and threads don't get caught. and if you don't feel like sweeping, turn on a fan on the floor. It does magic. Enjoy your new home. Is a great feeling. Congratulations.

craftybear 10-23-2010 12:03 PM

Congratulations

np3 10-23-2010 12:56 PM

Happy for you!!!!

sewTinker 10-23-2010 02:14 PM

oh my goodness!!! Congratulations! I had to read your entry twice. The first time I thought, "how do you buy a sewing room?" I thought it might be some preset interior, like those organized closets. lol... So, congrats again. Nothing like your very own quilting spot!

Tally Kathy 10-23-2010 02:16 PM

I agree - a laminate or wood floor is the way to go - you could put a small nice rug in the center if you need color.

bjnicholson 10-23-2010 02:16 PM

Love the fan idea! Wish I had thought of it

amma 10-23-2010 02:32 PM

Congratulations! :D:D:D

Linda71 10-23-2010 03:03 PM

Congratulations on your new room. I always teased my children when they were at home that I would have to build my room on the roof. We live in a 2 2/1 storey brick house. Now I have all my things in a lovely bedroom. But somehow I miss the kids.

Spudgm 10-23-2010 03:52 PM

Congrats on your new room and the rest of the house :)

mygirl66 10-23-2010 04:01 PM

Congrats! Just pull that red carpet up n toss it out!

Pickles 10-23-2010 04:10 PM

Wow ..Congrats :D :D

littlehud 10-23-2010 08:17 PM

Congrats. Post pic when you can.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 10-23-2010 08:45 PM

If you can't get rid of the carpet, ignore it. It's better to have a sewing room with an ugly floor than no sewing room at all!

hperttula123 10-23-2010 09:03 PM

congrats!!! That will be nice.

quiltmaker 10-24-2010 04:00 AM

Congratulations....I'm sure after some thinking and soul searching you will come up with a wonderful idea.

GABBYABBY 10-24-2010 06:44 AM

I am so happy for you....a new home....a room for
no one else but you.....WOW!!!! Don't forget to put
in your room a little refrigerator and a recliner.

Cottontop 10-24-2010 07:05 AM

You sound just like I want to be...I like the fan blowing the fringes away. Thanks, and blessings.

Kutnso 10-24-2010 07:19 AM

You're truly fortunate to have a whole house around your new sewing room. Congratulations and kudos to your DH.
Enjoy, Kutnso

I love my laminate floor; no more carpeted floors in sewing room for me. If I drop pins all I have to do is wave my magnetic pin cushion across it and up they come. Congratulations on your upcoming new sewing room wrapped in a home!

patdesign 10-24-2010 08:59 AM

Congrats, I know you are going to love it, btw, I have pinl low pile carpet in mine and a hoky works great as does a vacuum cleaner.

CarrieAnne 10-24-2010 09:22 AM

Congrats!

slk350 10-24-2010 09:27 AM

that's sure one heck of a way to get a sewing room !! LOL My last few houses I made sure I would have a room for sewing only. Congrats

Tweety2911 10-24-2010 12:26 PM

Congratulations. Enjoy setting up your quilting room!

desertrose 10-24-2010 03:03 PM

Congrats on your new sewing room and house included! If you can't put down Pergo floor throw an area rug over it to cover some of the red. Many hours of fun in YOU OWN ROOM!!!!

You don't have to wait for someone to grow up and move out to get it either.
Andie :D :D :D

inletjerry 10-24-2010 03:51 PM

I agree about pulling up the red carpet. I have a blue carpet in my sewing room and laminate flooring in every other room. Am considering moving my sewing machine w/attached cutting table to front carolina room. With this gone from sewing room, I can have the carpet pulled up and laminate put down. Then just move all the fabric back in place. Do I have anyone who would like to help, it could turn into a party?

QuiltswithConvicts 10-24-2010 05:04 PM

I have a light Pergo in my sewing room & I love it. Makes cleaning the floor a snap. Nothing damages it - even scissors falling points down just bounce off.

LOL...Sewtink I did the same thing and had the same thoughts....I think that means we need to slow down.

On a Serious note big congrats to you and your new sewing rm. even if it means the rest of the house has to come with it.
I love red and my sewing rm is done up in ALOT of primary colors but my vote is to pull up the carpet so much easier. maybe save a piece for a nice area rug, and a sign that says "Sallys Room"...Oh I am so excited for you, you are gonna love it...BIG CONGRATS!!!

gloing 10-24-2010 08:41 PM

Yes go lam. fl., I've had it in my sewing studio for 7 yrs. and love it. Congrat. Glo

penski 10-24-2010 09:57 PM

congratulations on getting your own sewing room

kacy 49 10-25-2010 04:22 AM

WOW have fun in your new room. You will love your retreat.

lawsonmugs 10-25-2010 06:51 AM

wow lucky you. I like the idea of a wood floor and the fan. I have carpet in the area I sew in.(no sewing room) and I track thread and tiny scraps all over. even using a thread catcher you miss it sometimes. I tend to sew and just aim for it.I'm not a good shot I guess. anyway good luck and enjoy your new home. Mary

QuiltingGrannie 10-25-2010 06:56 AM

WOW! So nice that your new sewing room comes with it's own 3 bdr house!

Pull up the carpet and put down a wood floor or laminate floor of some sort. Or deal with it and decorate around it!

Enjoy! Can't wait to see pics of the room, house and how you decorate it!

Susan49 10-25-2010 08:21 AM

Congrats! Sewing rooms are great. We didn't have the money to put in laminate when we had a leak and had to pull the carpeting. Home Depot has a great product that is vinyle, but looks like wood. It is really easy to put down. I did mine myself (my studio is 17'X28" as I have a longarm and my office). I even used one of quilting rules to cut the tiles with a utilty knife. It look a couple of days as I had to move things to one end and back again. I also had to wait to have my husband help me move the big stuff (14' longarm and cabinets left over from his business). Anyway this product comes in 6" X 36" strips and overlaps kind of like laminate. It has a 25 year warrenty and comes in 3 colors. My handyman said "Oh, you went with wood in here."

IBQUILTIN 10-25-2010 05:25 PM

How exciting for you!!!! I agree with the laminate floor idea. That is what I did in my studio, and I love it. Even the overspray from my DSIL with batting spray came right up with a light amonia and water solution. Just Swiffer it every day and its done

Quilter2B 10-26-2010 07:57 AM

How exciting!!!! When I hear "Auction" I never think of a home. Congrats! I agree with everybody else - pull up the carpet and put down some pergo or laminate. That's what I had in our last house - with an area rug add color and to make scooting my chair easy. We just moved two months ago and my sewing room now has carpet just like the rest of the house. Next spring that will be coming up! Hope everything goes smoothly with your move and don't forget to post pics once you get things settled in. Again Congrats!

Marilynsue 10-27-2010 11:51 AM

My sewing room is carpeted, so every once in a while, I use a toilet brush to pick up threads. Oh yeah, I bought a new brush just for this purpose.

dkabasketlady 10-27-2010 04:01 PM

CONGRATS!!!!! Your DH is definitely a KEEPER!!

Beginner64 10-27-2010 04:20 PM

Congratulations on your new room, oh, and your new house too. I sure can't wait to see picks or your progress.

Stitchnripper 10-27-2010 04:24 PM
