ok im the odd (wo)man out.. i love LOVE the contrast of the green... IMHO the maroon is to dark for my taste...

I like the second one with the maroon fabric the best.
The first is cool, the second warm. I think I prefer the first because I react to the cool (light green) and because I really like the maroon cornerstones with that green (instead of the dark green you mention) because of the contrast.
Really, I think it's just personal preference. Both versions work! |
I like both of them, but prefer #2, it just seems to go more with the fall theme
I like the first one better.
I love the second one.
It is interesting how the sashings make the camera read the fabric colors so differently. The second color warms everything up so nicely while the first color really cools it all off. I think I would go with the second color. But might change my mind under other circumstances.
I prefer the first one. It makes the individual blocks stand out more. With the second, everything blends and you don't get the oomph of the separate blocks. Good luck, either way it will be a lovely quilt.

Just be sure to post pictures when you are finished for us to see!
What is the name of this block? I can't place it. |
I like them both. The green makes the blocks pop and the maroon creates that Halloweeny feel.
I like the second one the best.
I like the green
My vote is for maroon. Makes the rest of the quilt sing. froggyintexas

When I first looked at your quilts, I liked the green sashing better, especially with the maroon cornerstones. Then I looked at your second quilt and liked it too. I know that's not much help, but the second sashing seems to give the quilt some richness to the blocks. They are both beautiful, but the second sashing seems to work better. Hope this helps and doesn't cloud the issue further.

The dark color, brings out the other colors.
[Definitely the second one!!!
You are the person who needs to be satisfied. I prefer the 2nd, but that is just my opinion. either would look good.
I like the 2nd one also.
Agree - 2nd one is the winner in my book. Makes the blocks pop better.
Cheers, K |
I also prefer the second set.
I like the second one. I think the green takes away from the pretty Fall colors in the blocks. It's more "Spring".

I have been working on another scrappy quilt, using halloween and fall prints mostly, and now need to decide on the sashing. I am using strictly from my stash, and I found these 2 pieces that could work. Any comments or suggestions are very much appreciated. this first one has a fine green sashing with dark maroon cornerstones. I would actually use a dark green cornerstone, but I had some maroon ones cut, so it is just for contrast.
And this one has a fine line maroon fabric for the sashing and I think that I would use the maroon cornerstones with this one. Again, thanks for looking and for any comments. Sure do appreciate the help. |
I did the "squint" test. When squinting the one with the green sashing, I saw green lattice-work, and very little behind that. When I squinted at the bottom one I saw what seemed to be a continuous sea of color with lattice in front of it.
I had a knitting pattern that was called: "See the Light". It was reversible two-color knitting: on whichever side the light yarn was more prevalent, that's where you saw the light. The dark seemed to melt into the background. So the two sides made different patterns, even though the knitting was the same on both sides. That is what is happening to this pattern. You see the light. |

The second definitely. It just brings out the colors in the scrappy block.
number 1 for me
I like the green option.
The brown sashing definitely goes better. The blocks don't even look the same when the sashing is changed.
The second picture, with the maroon sashing, seems more warm and inviting, so appropriate for a quilt. But the pictures themselves are skewing the colors--note the difference in the rug color from one to the other--so the green sashing and the blocks are both washed out by comparison to the other, but perhaps not in reality.
Well, they both look great, but I think the second one calls to me a bit louder.
Making blocks "pop" is not the be all and end all of goals for quilting. If the lighter, more restful colors appeal to you, you will have a pastel quilt, which is lovely. If you want to make it pop, the maroon would be a better choice. It's up to you -- what do you want to see when you look at the quilt?
The second one really pulls the color from the blocks. I like it
