SASHING HELP--Please
2 Attachment(s)
I have been working on another scrappy quilt, using halloween and fall prints mostly, and now need to decide on the sashing. I am using strictly from my stash, and I found these 2 pieces that could work. Any comments or suggestions are very much appreciated. this first one has a fine green sashing with dark maroon cornerstones. I would actually use a dark green cornerstone, but I had some maroon ones cut, so it is just for contrast.
And this one has a fine line maroon fabric for the sashing and I think that I would use the maroon cornerstones with this one. Again, thanks for looking and for any comments. Sure do appreciate the help. |
The second definitely. It just brings out the colors in the scrappy block.
I also like the second one a lot better. It is really pretty.
The maroon looks great! :)
the 2nd one 'pops out at you'. depends on whether you want a 'pop out' or a restful quilt. the both look good. can't go wrong either way.
ok im the odd (wo)man out.. i love LOVE the contrast of the green... IMHO the maroon is to dark for my taste...
I like the first one better
Either one would be beautiful, but I love the first one with the green, because it is a bit different.
It's always amazing to me how a single fabric choice can make a quilt look so different! Both are nice, but the second one has way more pop than the first.
I like the second one - it makes the blocks look "richer".
#1 with the green sashing and use dark green squares.
I like the first one as well. But I think I'd keep the maroon cornerstones instead of switching to the green. Pulls some of the colors in your blocks I think.
both choices are great- but, since it is a quilt made with fall fabrics I would go with the second choice- it stays more with the fall theme- the lighter green sashing would be wonderful to lighten up your scrappy- if you perhaps used spring/summery fabrics. isn't it amazing how easy it is to get different looks with just a strip of sashing? I love your scrappy! now make a new one with other fabrics besides fall- to use those light green sashing strips. :D
I vote for #2
I prefer the first one.
I like it both ways! Whichever one you like best will be beautiful.
I do agree that if you are going for emphasizing the fall theme, the darker sashing would accomplish that better. |
I too like the contrast in the second choice.
what would happen if you didn't have sashing? Or if the sashing was narrower. Just throwing in some other thing to think about.
I like the second one.
The second one, definitely!
the light sashing makes the blocks pop. the blocks are a little lost in the dark sashing

I prefer the maroon sashing- it really makes the harvest colors more vibrant.
I like the second one as the colors are all warm. ...good job!
The first one has more contrast. Love it.
I prefer the second one. My eye gets caught too much on the green sashing and never moves on to the beautiful blocks you've put together.
I vote for 2. To me, the first looks very like an antique, faded older quilt. The second is vibrant and alive. FYI...I like quilts that have a dramatic flair. I'm okay with someone giving me a faded type quilt, but I just can not make one.
Just depends on the look you're after, but I think the first one is my choice. The green is just the color of the moss on the Oregon trees, which becomes more visible after the leaves fall.
I like the first one best.
On the second one the sashing blends too much into the blocks; you end up not noticing either of them, you just see one big quilt. The first one you see the pretty squares first, and then notice the sashing. I also think you might experiment with different widths of sashing....I'm not sure I like that width. Narrower sashing if you do the maroon sashing might be the answer. Maybe experiment with some golden ratio widths to see what you like. Either way, very pretty quilt! |
Number one provides contrast, which is much more pleasing to the eye than number two.
Hmmm, let me think a minute because I like both of them equally, but I guess I'd choose the light green.
The second one really makes the fabrics in your squares shine!!
I like the light green best, but they are both nice. The green makes the blocks stand out more.

I like picture #2 better.
Both are lovely! Are you planning to add a border when finished? It would be interesting to see how different borders affected the two choices for the sashings. Just be sure to post pictures when you are finished for us to see!
What is the name of this block? I can't place it. |
The 2nd one looks more like a fall quilt to me. Good luck deciding!
Back and forth, back and forth, but I think I've decided I like the maroon better, it looks warmer and richer. The light color is nice as well, it makes it look more summery.
The second one pulls it all together with autumn warmth and makes the colors pop out. It seems that the green is more 'spring' and does not pull it together as well.

My choice is the first one. The green is soothing. I like your blocks - a lot.
