I was very impressed by the way a member from Alaska organized her fabric. I have found a much cheaper way. Go to JoAnn's and ask for all the boards their fabric is rolled on, they are not the solid bolts but the boards that unfold. Using a box cutter, you can get 4 boards from a bolt board. I then went to the $1 store and bought vinyl coverd large paper clips and the colorful sticky dots. The dots are used to mark how much fabric is on the board and the clips to hold the ends of fabric roll. I have a long way to go but my stash is looking better. Found fabric that I forgot I had. If I ever get done, I'll send pictures. Hope you can understand and visualize what I'm doing.

Very neat idea!
And I just threw out a bunch of these yesterday! |
What a great idea! Thank you for sharing :D:D:D

When I 1st started quilting, I got into the habit of writing on the selvage -edge that showed when fabric was folded - the yardage & date so that I did not have to remeasure if I was looking for a specific length.

Such clever ideas.. never thought to write the amount on the selvage
the cardboards , doesn't get any cheaper, as the stores just throw them away and always will give them away  |

Are these the cardboard things a fabric bolt is found on? Most of them are not acid free so you can get "ghosting" where you can actually see where the fabric was exposed to the acids outgassing from the cardboard. I was at a LQS and the woman in front of me was purchasing a bolt. The fabric was being unwrapped and you could see the ghosting get more intense the closer to the inside of the bolt they got. She opted not to buy it because it was damaged. I alway am interested in finding ways to neaten up my fabric but realize manufacturers expect product to be off those cores in less than a year (usually) so they don't worry too much about preserving their product. Maybe an acid free foamcore board?

I love that giant paper clip idea. I like anything that is giant (like my huge clothespins) or miniature.

Great idea~
