scant 1/4" seam
:o how do I get a scant 1/4" seam using a Bernina 830?

this was just posted a couple days ago. Might find some hints here:

Do you have the option of moving your needle to the left and right? I have a Bernina, and I just move the needle one click to the right.

If you have no needle adjustment I would suggest the stack of sticky notes. Not familiar with bernina models at all so if it's not a computerized machine, the magnetic seam guide is fabulous. Just measure from your needle, place the stickies or whatever and you are good to go.

IF you are talking about the VINTAGE 830 you have 5 needle positions on the dial. I look at them like this:
to the extreme left is position 1; to the extreme right is position 5; in between are 2, 3, 4. Using foot # 000, a scant 1/4 inch is in position 4. I use a small sticky note pad against the presser foot as my seam guide. It's easily removed for other widths or angles. Jan in VA |
One can also "learn" where that 1/4 inch seam is - I used 1/4 inch graph paper or index cards to find/see where the needl comes down -
Think of learning to drive on one's ownside of the road. |
