For close work like applique and just intricate cutting, including
ripping out, I have found a manicure scissor with the curved
scissor part is wonderful. It is very, very sharp and can be
put in small spaces to cut thread because the scissor part is
so sharp and small.

I use the 6" micro tip Fiskars. Love them. I have the Gingers also, but don't like as much as heavier and the finger holes don't have any padding and fingers get really sore. I've even put bandaids around the finger holes to soften them up and really didn't work well.

Got a one of her small scissors and they are GREAT! I love the micro serrated edge. I like them so much have considered getting the larger one but her larger scissor one is just too large in my opinion. I sure wish she had a "middle" sized one available.

I have some curved Elan scissors which are particularly good and some Solignen embroidery scissors which do the trick. Unfortunately, I don't know the name of a little pair of scissors that my grandmother gave me - which are the best. I saw ones which looked the same for sale in a scissor shop window about 10years ago and they were $80 then...My gran was not rich, so I imagined she saved for a while to get them for me.

I use these scissors for just about everything!! They belonged to my ex husbands grandmother who passed away in 1983 at the age of 97. So they are well over a 100 years old. They are a matched set from 3 to 6 inches and are super sharp! The leather case is stained and the silk lining is in shreds but nothing wrong with the scissors. You can tell which ones she used most because a lot of the gold detailing on the handles has worn away. The blades say Solingen, Germany on them. I inherited them and her handmade oak quilting frame because I was the only one in the family who quilted.

I do a lot of applique. The scissors I have for sharp points 4" Kai, Omnigrid and Dovo. The Dovo scissors run about $35 but the other two are about $14 I believe.

One of the ladies in my Guild has a pair with a serrated edge, nd said this is the best scissor for applique work... when it cuts, it prevents the fabric from fraying I have been on the hunt for a good price on a pair... I believe the manufacturing is from Clover... looking... :shock:
