This store must be an east coast store or someting. I live in So Cal and have never heard of it.

NO!!! There aren't any in the northeast.

I feel sorry for all the carpet installers around the country who are trying to buy or refill their carpet cutters. But not so sorry that I didn't go out and buy a few packages of blades. I left a few for them though. Soft hearted person that I am. ;-)

If you really get desperate, run on over to downtown Gainesville. Last time I checked they had plenty of them. I guess word hasn't gotten around here just yet. They've also got a ton of all the other stuff people have mentioned.

I can't believe that the carpet installers would actually use the cheap plastic cutter that HF sells for these blades! Seems to me that the handle on it would break right away.

Yeah you're probably right about that. Any carpet man I've ever watched had a real heavy duty one. So if we are buying up all the HF ones they're probably glad about it. Maybe carpet installers never buy those cheap ones.

LOVE the wrist magnet. I will have to go get one

HF are in San Antonio,too!

What is the suction cup used for?

alica1367 08-25-2010 10:07 AM

Harbor freight has a website. u can order on line.

Bev 08-25-2010 10:51 AM
I bought ten pkgs of blades and my GF bought two. Also found two magnetic "bowls" to hold pins for $3.99. The one I got at the Expo was $12.95.
I bought one of the small magnetic bowls and to my surprise when I put it down on my heavily padded ironing board, it stuck like glue, well almost.
I was delighted because I use my i.board for everything. It's set up immediately next to my machine and I place my pin cushions etc. on it while I'm sewing. Every once in a while my arm bumps it and the pins go flying. This totally prevents that. Plus it's just the right size ... not too big, not too small. I love it.

There's a rumor that one is coming to Hempstead, Long Island, NY. If it does I will let my fellow NYers know....

Pinkiris 08-25-2010 01:01 PM

The suction cup is used for a "handle" on your ruler while rotary cutting. Keeps your fingers safe!

Well, I HAD to have a blade, mine is going skip, skip, skip and frustrating (I dropped it when it was open on a ceramic tile floor). So even though each blade was double what the single blades were it still was lots cheaper than Jo-Anns with a 40% off coupon. Of course I had to get a couple other things..... Did you all know they have a wrist magnet? I thought I'd try that out and see if it will work. Here is a pic of my finds. Just a few cents over 10 bucks!

Well, now instead of waiting in the car while my DH buys the store out, I can find something in there to purchase myself.

Thanks for sharing this great find.

I live in NW Washington (state) and there are no Harbor Freight stores within 200 miles. Anything in northern Oregon?

Suzy 08-25-2010 03:46 PM

We have Harbor Freight in Madison, and also Eau Claire Wi. I bought the last 7 pkgs in Madison and Eau claire was on back order. I will share these with 2 other quilters.

Good Luck

Suzy

If you have not set your machine up yet and your DH does not have a socket adapters set for his drill get this for him:
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-piece...ons-42191.html

if you are setting your machine up on carpet get 2 sets of these for ease of movement:
http://www.harborfreight.com/magic-m...ers-40071.html

these come in several sizes 4”-6”- 8” ect. They will hold onto your rollers and pins. I took thick floor pad scrubber cut into a circle and glued it to the inside and now I stick my pins in upright, no sticks trying to pick up pins.

I'd really love one of those carpet cutters. Anyone know if they are available in Australia. Get so jealous of you girls with your range of choices over there.

ccthomas 08-25-2010 05:20 PM

I stopped in HF on Saturday in WV and the back order carpet blades were "waiting for me." I did leave some for others. I also bought the mini suction cup but haven't had time to open or try this one. I thought may be I had made a mistake and needed the large handle suction tool. Glad to see others are trying the mini one. I feel better.

Wouldn't I have to have an account with this company, or something , to purchase one or two?

glenda 08-25-2010 05:58 PM

There's a harbor freight store in El Cajon on Main Street if that's anywhere near you. Southern California takes in quite a bit of territoryl

Alice Woodhull 08-25-2010 06:21 PM

I have one identical to this that I got from Shirley's Sewing Supplies, 11426 S. US 231, Dale, In. But be very careful of it as it is super sharp. I split the end of my thumb trying to get it open the first time I used it.

costumegirl 08-25-2010 06:27 PM

Thanks for all of the info Phyllis!! :)

Hi Bev, If your DH name is Dave then we are cousins.

Gerbie 08-25-2010 07:44 PM

There is a HFS near where I live in West Tx. When I called the store and had a friend going to the town where it is to check on the blades for me they told us that it was an internet order only. You folks who can get them at the store are lucky. I haven't been to the store since I heard about the blades to get nosey and check it out for myself. They may have them and just not know it lol. They have so much stuff. A good place to buy Christmas gifts of odds and ends and handy man gifts.I bought gifts for 5 people last year. I bought battery chargers for my son and my daughter for their autos last year. Got them on sale. They both were really grateful. Who knows when you might need that in a pinch.Really everyone who can should just go into those stores and look around, all kinds of bargains. Some pretty cheaply made items and many that are really good quality.

angieh1964 08-25-2010 08:01 PM

i am really liking that wrist magnet and i am sure my husband would too as he seems to be the one who always finds my lost needles and pins usually in his foot. oops keep telling him to wear slippers in the house.

zz-pd 08-25-2010 08:21 PM

Good for you. God bless.

cr12cats 08-25-2010 08:46 PM

So. Ca. had them all over, San Diego, El Cajon, La Mesa, Hesperia, L.A , To name a few. DH loved that store, yeah a guy thing I used to think too. I wonder if the guys working are wondering why so many females are coming in lately? That or boy alot of people are laying carpet. LOL I get to check the one here out on Friday (wichita)

quiltsmith 08-25-2010 09:41 PM

kim_s

There is one in Pasadena, Rosemead and Foothill. Also Santa Ana on Harbor Blvd.

grandme26 08-26-2010 07:07 AM

Tomorrow is my shopping day so must take a trip to Harbor Freights. Will ask DS for directions as he goes there all the time.

GrannieAnnie 08-26-2010 07:12 AM

I'd think almost any home improvement store would have a carpet cutter, hopefully rotary. Have you tried Lowes or Home Depot or even Sears?

i went to the one on Rosemead last week and they were out.

Judie 08-26-2010 07:00 PM

Just thought I'd let you know..

I went by my local Harbor Freight and checked to see if any blades had come in.. no, no blades.. .but the price on the slot where they go was now $1.99. So they have gone up $.50 already!

I expect there will be more price hikes before they are have them back regularily. oh boo..... Still.. $1.99 for two blades is a whole lot better than $5.99 for 1..

Barbie123 08-26-2010 07:11 PM

So sorry that where I live we don't have Harbor Freight, what is it a hardware store?

Basically it's a hardware store. I think a lot of their stuff is end of the line stuff. You know, like when ABC company makes a certain drill but then finds a better design. Harbor Freight buys out the last of the old design. All sorts of good finds there. Someone mentioned looking thru it for Christmas gifts--------good place to do so.
