Scrap happy

Some time ago I made the Wheels Quilt out of my Aunt Gracie collection.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t183834-3.html I had a bucket full of scraps that I was going to dump. Somehow I just didn't do it lol....then one rainy day, I dumped the bucket on the floor and started to sort through it. I picked out the larger pieces and proceed to make random blocks out of Block Base, that I also posted somewhere. I made a butterfly, the fish block, a snails trail, 9 little monkey wrenches that I put into on large block. Then I took all the bits and peices and just sewed them any which way and inserted a block here and there. I like this little quilt and I am so glad that I didn't dump the scraps. I have quilted it and did the binding just now. It measures 51x61, a good lap throw. |
I like this little quilt too ;-)

Love the block with the fish. You have encouraged me to get started on using my scraps. Great job!!!!!!
Love it! This feels like pieced blocks that were dropped onto a floor covered with any-which-way scrap pieces, random and wonderful.:)

very nice so glad you didnt throw them away
Very nice.
It's wonderful!
Love the 9 patch of mini Churn Dash blocks and that red inner border. It really pops. |
Thank you Guys. I can't believe the scraps we used to throw away. We threw away quilts lol. The churn dash blocks started to be a quilt for the puppies and like anytime I do little blocks, I soon get enough of it lol, and used them in something else. The same thing happened to the Dear Jane blocks and the farmer's wife blocks lol...
When I look at this little quilt, I remember some of the old quilt that I have seen and they were all out of scraps, any which way. Women used whatever they could find and in the end it's a work of love and art. When I did the Wagon Wheel quilt, I made a lot of mistakes with the cutting but I used all those piece sup in this little quilt so nothing went to waste. |
What a great quilt! Love the repro prints. Bet you are glad you didn't throw the scraps away? You did such a good job of making several blocks.
Very pretty. Aren't you glad you didn't toss your scraps?
This is my kind of quilt! Love it:)

What a fun quilt, Rosy. Your artistic talent again shines through.

What a great way to use scraps! It is delightful!

what a happy quilt! I love it!

i am so happy you shared such a wonderful little quilt- and showed others what a few scraps can turn into! it so stresses me out to hear of people throwing away their scraps- i was always taught to be frugal- and what i can not use- (or more like don't want to use) i simply share with others. i love your quilt! and i love where you (shopped :) )

Made with love - cost $0. Hurray for recycling!
LOVE it :) What a great idea .... so nice and colorful!!

it's a happy quilt! I love it!!

I love your quilt. I also love what I call "free quilts"--quilts made from what many throw out (though I never toss anything larger than 1-1/2" square.
A lot of people in the church quilting group here, give me their scraps. I have made some scrap quilts to give to the Methodist Childrens Home. I borrowed Ditter's QAYG pattern on this board to do the latest one. I have all the blocks made and I am ready to put it together. It is not together enough to put a picture yet, but I getting there. I also quilt with the Georgia Chapter Quilts For Kids. Most of the Quilts I do for them are scrappy quilts. I invite you to visit our web site to see some pictures. We just delivered 90 quilts and 39 premiee pads to the Children's unit at Georgia Medical Hospital in Augusta. I am so happy to have been a part of that delivery. I know what I do makes a difference.

How cute and cheerful! Love it!
WOW - great wonky but planned quilt. Love it.
Yes, am so glad I didn't toss them. I have a huge bin of scaps and didn't want to add more and the AG scraps were not in line with the scrap bin ones (batiks and wild farbics). I kept them in a bucket and in the end I just couldn't toss and I am so delighted with this little quilt.
I love it! Fun and funky all in one!
This is why I love my scraps. I love the quilt you made.
Well, that is a real kick in the ....ahhh.... idea section of my brain. Thanks for showing us such a delightful result of a bucket of mess! Very inspirational!
Very sweet. I love Aunt Grace fabrics. I did a few quilts with them too.
Such a fun scrappy quilt! Shows that you shouldn't throw anything away!
Absolutely love it....if I didn't already have 7 projects in various stages of work I would be dumping all my scraps and starting a new one based on your little quilt.
so cool I love the crazy random feel of it
Isn't it amazing what we can do with "leftovers"! This is too cute!
oh I really like that. I tried to make a scrap quilt sort of like that and lost my patience with it. I just couldn't do it. I'll have to try again
This is terrific!! A great way to not only use up scraps but those "orphan" blocks too... you've inspired me!
I like this quilt - it isn't the same all over, it's one with adventure! I think it's wonderful you kept all those scraps - nice colors, easy on the eyes!
Now that is NEAT! I am not a big fan of scrap quilts but I love this. I think the regular blocks give the eye a place to rest and keep it from being too busy. The choice of fabric works too. Well Done.
Love it, I'm glad you saved the scraps!
It sure is a sweet and pretty quilt. You are very creative.
very cute. I have been working on my scraps for the past 3 weeks. Made one french braid quilt, wall hangings, and am now working on a nine patch. Lots of fun using them up but my hand hurts from cuttine out 700 2and 1/2 inch squares. Oh well. As a good quilter friend of mine keeps saying, your scraps cost just as much per yard as your bigger pieces. trying to challenge myself to use them all up before I start another project. Like your ideas.
Love what you did with your scraps. I just can't make myself throw them away either. Beautiful quilt.
