I noticed on a lot of scrap quilts there are colors and prints that match and the design looks great. How about a quilt that have NO matching colors or prints. Will that look good? I want to make sure I can make one that will have a lot of different colors and prints before I start it. I really do not want it to be odd or ugly just because it has many colors and prints. Will certain designs help it look good?

Thanks,
JOY

Scrap quilts are my favorite..i appreciate all the owrk that goes into the patterned ones..i make them too..but there are so many things you can do with scraps, from string quilts, to blocks that don't match!

I have seen quilts where no two fabrics are alike...maybe at my quilt guild or at a show. Wish I could remember specifically. Go for it. What a great way to use up all those wonderful scraps that just are too good to toss.

I made my husband a scrappy log cabin. I used every ugly fabric I could find. I don't think there was one fabric in the whole quilt you could actually call pretty. I put fabrics together that clashed. And I mean really, seriously are UGLY together.

It turned out to be the coolest quilt ever.

I love scrappy quilts the best. I can look at all the different fabrics and tell you where they came from, what other quilt it was in (probably gone to someone but still have a piece of that quilt). Almost like an I Spy quilt but for adults. Have fun with it....

I actually did two of the ugly log cabins at the same time. One was for a very sick friend. Since I knew he was spending a lot of time in bed I gave him a list of all the "things" that were on the fabrics. He said he found every thing except the wrong side out fabric. I know there were at least two pieces of wrong side out fabric in his quilt. I could find one of them because it was a center but the other one disappeared.

I am making a scrap quilt right now. I have used all floral scraps. I am not worrying at all if anything matches colorwise. I am just looking at the patterns (Sampler quilt) of each block and making sure I use darks, mediums, and lights. This will allow the pattern of the block to show through. It is turning out very well... I was SCARED of scrappy until I actually did it!! Now I'm in love with scrappies!! :)

AMEN!
I have a Spiderweb and all its stringy pieces in my drawer that is collecting dust I work on it here and there from time to time. Hopefully I will get to work more on it after birthday "season" is over!
