I have never done a scrappy border before, but I think this looks pretty good.

What do you think? Did I make the right decision? The binding is a bit hard to see, but maybe you can get the sense of it.

I think it looks great and I love the three rail fence. I also love the colors.

I like it!

Successful choice on two fronts, love the pretty binding and it keeps those strips out of your scrap pile! Congrats!

I love scrappy bindings and your scrappy binding looks great.

BEAUTIFUL! You did great!

Jingle 10-23-2012 04:40 AM

It looks wonderful. Beautiful.
I save my leftover bindings and use them on scrappy quilts. I just sew them together, I think from now on I will cut them in same size strips. I like the way you did yours.

onthelake 10-23-2012 04:41 AM

I love it! I have that same jelly roll because I loved the colors. You have inspired me to get busy and use it. Did you do this with only one jelly roll?

Pink Dogwood 10-23-2012 04:46 AM

Love it!! Great idea to use the leftovers and gives it a nice finish. Good idea!!

lillybeck 10-23-2012 04:47 AM

Very nicely done

Yes, I only used one jelly roll. I am surprised at how many people told me they had this jelly roll! (different thread...when I thought I was going to use a different layout)

I see the umm quilt inspector is inspecting it !LOL Good job on the binding, and on the quilt. Great colors.

I've often thought about using my left over binding strips, but was never sure if it would look good. After seen how great your's came out, I think I'll try it.

fayeberry 10-23-2012 05:51 AM

psquared52 10-23-2012 06:07 AM

I think it looks great and I am all about using the last bits of fabric so it's a WIN-WIN situation!

Busy Quilter 10-23-2012 06:16 AM

I've also done this with scraps from the quilt just made. I think it is very whimsical :)

Maire 10-23-2012 06:16 AM

I love it, I have also done scrappy bindings just because not enough fabric for planned binding & realized it does look great.

Maire 10-23-2012 06:17 AM

PS, as long as the cat approves that is what counts! LOL

I love it! I think it turned out great. I'd never heard of a jelly roll in reference to quilting before but I was at Hancock's of Paducah yesterday and they had boxes and boxes of them. Very cool, I think- just wish they weren't so expensive because I think I'd really stock up on them :D

DebbieG 10-23-2012 07:25 AM

you definitely did the right thing...it looks great!!

KathyPhillips 10-23-2012 07:26 AM

Love it! I am finishing a jelly roll quilt in turquois and orange. Way out of my "comfort zone," and I love it. Will use this on my binding, too.

catmcclure 10-23-2012 07:32 AM

My quilt group did a string quilt. I made the binding. I took leftovers from the quilt itself and cut up lots and lots of bias strips and sewed them together - over 400 inches. None of the strips was wider than about 2-1/2". Once the strips were sewn together the binding itself was not bias. The quilt was gorgeous.

katkat1946 10-23-2012 07:35 AM

ABSOLUTELY the right decision! I love bindings done this way.

Carol34446 10-23-2012 08:13 AM

I really like it funny thing as I look at it it draws my eye to follow it around and around....the quilt inspector seems to be seeing the same thing I am too!

justme CA 10-23-2012 11:58 AM

It's obviously perfect for the Inspector General said so!

Great idea to use up leftovers. Looks good.

Dina 10-23-2012 12:26 PM

Thanks for all the nice comments!! I have to admit that it looks better than I thought it could, and I will probably make a scrappy binding again. It seems to tie things together nicely.
