Joe's Mom, that quilt is really pretty. Never knew what a blomming 9 patch was and now I know. As RosaSharon said it is prettier than most of the quilts that were posted on the website she directed us to.

Sometimes I think that we get to close to our quilts while working with them and we need to take a step back and look at them. That is why I like to use my camera and take pictures, it shows you a picture that you that you cannot see with just using your eyes. That sentence didn't sound right, but I think you all know what I mean.

I have been working on a bunch of stash-buster quilts. I gathered groups of fabrics from my stash, usually based on a focus fabric, and matched them to patterns. They are all scrappy in the sense that I will use a bunch of different blues as my blue, etc. So I decided to try a scrappy blooming 9 patch, and it didn't work out well. I let my values range too much, so I have some distracting 9-patch squares that are too obvious amidst the color blooms. My conclusion is that this is one pattern best done with constant fabrics.

Has anyone else tried a scrappy blooming 9 patch, and did it work well for you? I would love to see photos of your blooming 9 patches!

I do almost entirely Scrap Quilts. If you have the EQ design program try different colors in the pattern. Otherwise just use graph paper and do the colors. It will be beautiful.

I bought this book a year ago and need to shop for some fabric. I think I will do batiks because I do really want all the fabrics to blend adn I think it will be easiest to find fabrics that blend, if I use batiks. I am waiting for December when I can get 30% off one of the local Quilt Shops for a reward for spending a certain $ amount during the year. The 30% will be a huge cost savings --especially if I buy batiks! I love the Blooming nine-patch quilt and glad that the pattern includes a very large size cause I want it for my bed and I like the quilts to be very large for my bed.

No, it isn't stitched together. I've been kitting up these stash quilts rather than finishing them. I've already bagged up the blocks row by row to finish some other time.

Since among friends, here is a photo. It's loud.

Wait! This is your quilt you don't like??? I love it--finish and send to me!

The blocks are 4.25 unfinished. It is easy to cut them the wrong size, we aren't used to thinking .25" anything :)
The science behind is because the blocks are set on point and she wanted to be where she wanted to be on the final triangles and overall size.

Well, I agree with all the posts! It will be fantastic. I've been wanting to make one and scrappy too but don't have the pattern and thought I could figure it out on my own. Just haven't yet. Keep up the good work. everyone likes it
