Scrappy hexagons
 

I am almost finished with my GFG quilt and still love making hexies. I started with left over hexies and now have gallon zip lock bag full of scrappy 1.5 in hexagons made from my 1930's reproduction fabric collection.

I thought about making a scrappy quilt with them. Then I thought about making a 16 patch with white hexagons for sashing. I love 16 patch quilts and was wondering what if it would work???

Or what would be a good pattern to use for scrappy hexagons???

I'm working on a scrappy hexagon quilt and I have found that I too really love making the hexies but sewing them together not so much!!! I am intrigued by your idea of making a Hexie 16 patch! I can invision it in my head and I think it sounds like a very clever and fascinating idea!

I too am currently working on a hexie project.
English paper piecing isn't the fastest way to go, but it sure is relaxing. Plus you can carry the project with you anywhere. Will post a picture when/if I ever finish it.

Hexagons are addicting! I'm working on a scrappy GFG quilt also. It's not a project I get to work on often, as I do it when I'm sitting. Which I rarely do! Always working on other things. Actually took it to the tire shop in town when I had my winter tires changed out! Got to work on the hexies for a few hours!! I have 20 flowers done and this year 3 that I've been working on it! Using the 1" hexagon template pieces from www.paperpieces.com, which I really like. Not sure how I am going to put the quilt together, but I'm a long way from that decision. I purchased a digital edition book called "Quilts from Grandmother's Garden" by Jaynette Huff from the Martingale.com website. It has wonderful ideas for quilts.

Would love to see your end product. Like your 16 patch idea.

I love making hexies , especially with 1930's reprduction prints. Your scrappy hexagon quilt will look great! Since I have discovered silk thread I find I enjoy joining the hexies together more than I used to. Silk thread is so fine it kind of disappears into the fabric so it is invisible and the joins look much better than using regular thread - well, at least with my stitching they do. ha ha Also I find silk thread very easy to use as it doesn't tangle. I love the idea of 1930's repo scrappy. I have a few things i need to finish up before i start but i plan on making a dresden quilt with 1930's fabrics and was thinking of using the scraps to make a GFG.

could someone explain the hexie 16 patch? I am doing a hexie all in homespun plaids in the diamond shape, it will be fr grandson's graduation in 2 yrs!

I'd like to see a picture or diagram of a 16-patch.

I'm trying to wrap my head around a 16 patch hexi. I have seen 16 patch (like 4 4-patches put together) before but with a hexi you'd have to use half hexis on the edges wouldn't you to make it square?
