I love scrappy quilts but for all the scraps I can't use or want I make a pillowcase type pillow from other unwanted fabrics, stuff them with the scraps for pet beds for the local animal shelters, they give the poor animals there a little comfort. When they get too dirty to use the shelter can throw them away.

I've decided I'm going to cut my excess into isosceles triangle and toss them in a bin and when it gets full, make a scrappy bedspread. I used to toss them or give them away previously.

I do strips, rectangles, squares and what ever I can't size, I save for my crazy quilt blocks. I put all blocks in bags and label size of block on outside of bag. I cut from 3 inch all the way to 8 inch blocks , mainly 2 1/2 inch strips. Some strips I just leave as , because I use them for strip quilts.

Here is my first scrappy quilt. It was made out of the ugliest scraps ever- but altogether it works. You have one box of strips and one of small chunky pieces. You just sew chain sew a line of the chunks to a strip, cur them apart, iron them open and then they get sewn to a strip. Continue until you get to the size you want and then cut you block size out on with your square on the diagonal.

That is beautiful. Scrappy quilts always look nice to me. Years ago they used what they had, we are very spoiilt now with so many talented designers and fabric ranges to chose from.

Wonderful pictures and scrappy saving ideas! I saw this one on Pinterest: Make hexies whenever you have a few scraps and start a box to collect them. Click for a great picture of hexie organization by Elena Roscoe:
