I love scrappy quilts too. I keep all my leftover and trimmed fabrics for scrappy quilts, like to make two color ones such as all blues and creams.

I love scrappy cus I don't have to decide which few fabrics to use, I get to use them ALL. LOL

I love fabric and I like to see the variety in a scrappy quilt. It is fun to sit and find different fabrics in one quilt. I made a Christmas quilt and used hundreds of different fabrics. I like it organized, though, not just thrown together. My friends give me their "scraps". I am making a GFG with their scraps. To me they are delightful little pieces of my friends' quilts.

I love scrappy quilts because they are like a memory quilt to me. I use all the scraps from making my children and grandchildren's clothing, so everytime I look at it, I see all the memories. :P

For me, the appeal is that it reminds me of the great creativity ordinary women have shown in making beautiful things from what were literally scraps of fabric.

scrap quilts are the origins of quilting itself. Back in the day, quilts were made from the scraps left over from sewing clothing, and "recycling" the useable parts of old clothing. I think the Colonials would be horrifed at the idea of us buying new fabric and cuttring it up into patterns.

I agree 100%. I like using what others would throw out.

I suppose that "scrappy" quilt makers also compost, if they garden. (In fact, I ask for other people's grass clippings!)

:)

I just had a friend call me and say, you want my scrap bin...I said sure..thinking I would use the little pieces to do some scrappy pp'ed stuff...NO...Her idea of scraps are FQ's with a 4" corner missing, or the trimmings from her quilt backs..you know 12" wide and 120" long....heheheh
I got 3 garbage bags of fabric.....YIKES.....
