I think prefer organized scrappies. I like using lots of different fabrics in my quilts, but, they have to go together, to a point. I want something appealing, not the other, lol. I would have to agree, there's alot of what some call scrappy out there, that just doesn't appeal to me, so I try to watch what I create, a little bit anyway. To each her own, right!

LOL! I think I may be the odd gal out.... I have a scrappy log cabin top, that is UGLY! UGLy! UGLY!
I really hate it! It is scrappy, made from pulling random darks and lights pieces from paper bags! and sewing them together.
it looks like a 99 year old service quilt! made with todays fabric!
The random pieces are the problem....Although the pattern is good, it just looks disorganized and junky.

They are 13 1/8" sq. sized blocks.
It is seven by six blocks - 42 of them all sewed into a top.

Exactly my thoughts, I think every quilt made is made with love.

I grew up with scrappy quilts, and that's one reason I love them....but the other reason is that the too-coordinated kind look store-bought to me SOMETIMES. Beautiful, don't get me wrong, but not a labor of love or homemade-looking like a scrappy.

I like scrappy quilts because they have so many stories to tell. Each scrap came from some project or another, for one family member or another, some friend or the other, etc. Each scrap represents something that the maker invested his or her self into, and instead of being orphans, the "leftovers" come together into a hugely loving and lovable family.

Sometimes I see many many fabrics that I want, and I certainly can't buy enough of each to make a quilt. BUT, making scrappy allows me to buy smaller pieces of several fabrics. Then, I find myself looking over the quilt and loving the different fabrics I have in it that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Make sense?

I made a Scrappy quilt for my sister and brother in law composed of some clothing worn by my deceased mother in law. It was a total surprise to both. I also put pictures on the quilt so they would have a picture in a quilt and know my MIL was watching over them

I love doing scrappies! I'm a firm believer in using every bit of fabric possible and I love the creative freedom in doing a scrappy quilt. I to like make mine sort of "organized scrappy," not too chaotic.

Same for me! Also easy to sew, cut to size and keep on going.

They connect us to the past - scraps were all our foremothers had to work with, and recent past, our own families' scraps of clothes that remind us of them, and the future - a quilt may last for generations, the fabrics i them and who and why they were used as clothing and finally in quilts tell our stories to future generations.
